With filming expected to kick off at the start of next year, there have been a number of announcements surrounding Noah Hawley's Alien TV series for FX this week! Below we've cataloged all the recent updates to the show's cast as well as additional directors!

First up, The Ronin has reported that Dana Gonzales will be joining Noah Hawley in directing an unknown number of episodes for the series:

The Ronin can share a small update on the untitled “Alien” series. Executive producer Dana Gonzales had been previously linked as one of the show’s cinematographers (latest credit being “The Toxic Avenger”) and will direct an unknown amount of episodes alongside Hawley.

Following on, Deadline recently reported that actor Timothy Olyphant has joined the cast of the Alien FX series, with limited details on what character he will play - although they think he plays the role of a Synthetic:

Details about Olyphant’s character are not being disclosed. I hear he plays Kirsh, a synth who acts as a mentor and trainer for Chandler’s Wendy who is a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult.

Timothy will join David Rysdahl, who was also recently announced as joining Noah Hawley's Alien FX series:

After working with Noah Hawley on the fifth season of his Emmy-winning drama Fargo, which just debuted last week, David Rysdahl has solidified his place in his FX family with a series regular role in his Alien prequel series, Deadline can exclusively reveal.

The Alien TV series is set to start filming in Bangkok this upcoming January and February. As new details drop we'll be sure to keep you updated!

The Alien franchise is taking a dramatic turn at 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney. Currently there are two major Alien projects in development - a new Alien TV series by Noah Hawley and a new, stand-alone Alien movie being directed by Fede Alvarez. Both of which will be taking the franchise in a new direction - moving away from the Alien prequel direction Ridley Scott set out to pursue back in 2012.

If they are serious about this meta-human plot, it will be the death of the series. Damn it, this is going to be the Halo TV series all over again!

I will agree I was hesitant at first with the Meta-Human angle, but after watching Raised by Wolves I no longer have such doubts, I think if done right, the implementation of the concept can be successful without detracting too much from the Alien plot. The biggest hurdle for modern shows now is to avoid excessive woke nonsense. But Alien has always touched on existential threats to Humanity and I definitely think meta-humanism is one which we will see in our lifetime. Synths and Aliens go hand in hand.

The thing is Synths were only threat due to having loyalty to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation as we see with Ash and to an extent with David. Although David was a unique case, although he was an early model but he was hand-picked by Peter Weyland so maybe this particular David was a modified David 8.

Bishop was loyal to the Marines and Call was a highly advanced Synthetic (Too be honest I think the whole A.I. is a threat started with Alien Resurrection, because in Joss Weadon works he always makes the Synthetic the bad guy or a threatening force)

This meta-human plot doesn't make any sense. Especially this early in the ALIEN timeline! Synthetics maybe. To plot so far sounds like a rehash of Caprica. Also I'm against having xenomorphs (I don't count David's praetomorph as a true xenomorph) on Earth prior to their discovery on LV-426.
