Prometheus analysis and theory

Prometheus analysis and theory

If you take 5 minutes of your time I believe you'll find this very helpful in attempting to understand Prometheus much better. I'm not saying it's 100% correct but I also don't believe its that far off from ideas that Ridley Scott could possibly of had when he came up with Prometheus .

The first comment in that thread is rather cool.

Reading all of these comments made me look this up: LV-223 = Leviticus 22:3 "Say to them: 'For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the LORD."

I will try and read that tonight or  maybe tomorrow, as i had a fair amount of beers today ;)

I have always meant to post my whole Prometheus interpretation but then it may be Mute with Alien Covenant, as i never considered ET LOL ;)

Some of these theories i think are a bit flawed though... each to their own....

I am not quite on the side of theories like the Goo is one Substance that affects different ways depend on the Moral Compass of who it effects.

These theories seem to hint that Shaw with her Good Moral Compass Creates life and not destroys it.... if this is the case then the Sacrificial Engineer who was performing a non-selfish Act of Sacrifice would not have died... but alas this is how he was able to create life from his destruction.

Worms only have basic instincts so we cant say they have any knowledge of Right/Wrong and Good/Evil and they was evolved into New Life a Evolution of themselves... which i think the theory in that Topic is touching upon, they are not destroyed but Evolved.

But then Fifield who was a bit of a Jackass and only in it for the $$$$$ he to in reality was Evolved also.

Shaw how had a Good Moral Compass may have created Life, but if David had not noticed, she would have latter been Belly Busted.

So as far as the Black Goo i just dont by the theories it effects a Host depending on Moral Compass etc...

The explanation is there all along with Spaigts Scarabs.

However time will tell with Alien Covenant as we see the Black Goo has a different effect, its even stored in ways that well would have reacted in Prometheus but oh well...

I will have a deeper look at the topic tomorrow, and i can give my two cents too...

But i am wondering if Alien Covenant will have to make me rethink my theory that i was drove too, just as some had to rethink that the Space Jockey was not a Space Suit after Prometheus.

@BigDave I liked their theory on the mural on the wall that suggests that the Engineers are the creators of life and the Xenomorph represents the destroyer of life, their opposite. I believe this could be true. I feel the Xenomorph could be the last thing they created that became the destroyer of life and they realized it was their opposite and could never fully defeat them.

One thing that is overseen here is that 5 stars that were sent as message to man is not "Home of Engineers" but their military base with 2 spacecrafts which Engineers wanted to use to send to wipe off the Earth. And why it was pointed to it 35000 years ago when they wanted to use it 2000 years before??? Also, IMO black substance is mutagen, so maybe they didn't want to destroy Earth after all, I dont know... On that account, the sacrifice from first scene brought life to Earth, not only humankind - it was combination of DNA and substance which combined. Cause, we don't see any trace of life in that scene. I hope to find the answers as I embark on watching the movie.

Sorry to say this but any outside references besides the movie to further explain the story don't count. It just goes to show how poorly written it all was.

The Logical Explantion for LV-223 is...

These are Genetic Gardeners, the Earth is their Garden and they experiment and evolve different life, and so its Logical they have a Genetic Nursery/Greenhouse located away from the Garden where they can experiment and evolve their experiments and when pleased with the results they Plant them in the Garden (Earth)

This is why those Outposts had breathable Atmosphere, as the LV-223 Engineers have Advanced Space Suits and they can survive on the surface.

LV-223 is thus a distance Outpost they watch over us from, and also experiment from.  The Star Map was to show where we came from.. as in "behold this is where we created/evolved you from"

It was never a invitation and they never thought we would ever be able to Travel the Stars.

No soon as something happened, that changed this Place and their Agenda to Create something else, that they then Worshiped as Perfect... they intended to Replace us with this new improved Perfection.

@Snake

This is why Prometheus is liked by a number of fans, there are clues, and there are ambiguous things and Plot Holes, that people have to take into account other information to then come up with the Answers.

This however requires investment in time, that the average viewer simply has no time for... and so indeed Sadly they should have made some things more apparent.

The cuts made to the movie made it a bit of a mess, no soon as Ridley was not pleased how the Engineer had gone to Shaw and she had gave him a good fight with the help of the Axe... Ridley felt it diminished the Engineer..

So ordered a quicker re-shoot while Ian Whyte was now in his Burns Make up (suffered from the Trillobite)

This is then now explained as during the Crash, which meant a lot of Footage had to be cut that showed the Engineer leaving his Pilot Chamber, and moving across the surface of LV-223 and then entering the Life Boat and finding a Bible to have a look at, and then we get the Alternative (original) shot where he discovers Shaw.

Alien Covenants Prometheus Connections will give us a lot of new Debates too... there are a number of Plot Holes that debates can explore...   The Xenomorph route however is a bit Spoon Fed, but then i think ambiguity was one of the Criticisms in Prometheus so now we get Spoon Fed the Robot did it, and then Creates Eggs from the Colonists that end up on LV-426

@Bigdave

There are lots of things worth discussing in Prometheus but I think they've overdone it. One or two questions to ponder about would have sufficed I'd say.

Off the top of my head:

-What was the green crystal and the mural about?

-What killed the engineers?

-Why did the engineers head react so heavily during the autopsy?

-Why was the engineer in hypersleep for 2000 years when he could have just taken a ship to go to his relatives?

-What did David actually say to the engineer? How come he can speak their language?

-Why did the engineer become so violent?

-Shaw's asking a tonne of good questions at the end and we also got nothing...

Some questions are hinted at but not enough to get a definitive answer. The writers clearly had a series of films in mind so they could make up things as they went along and that's what bothered me most about this movie. That and the incredibly dumb characters.

BigDave

May-18-2017 9:50 AM

Good Points... i can answer a number of those Questions as clues are there... others are what i can give a good theory.. but ultimately we needed a movie to answer them.

They felt however that they needed to bring back a Alien Movie, and so these things was not answered in Alien Covenant but it appears a number would have been in Prometheus 2

What was the green crystal and the mural about?

It was ambiguous, the Mural showed some relation to the Engineers and that Creature, it was very ambiguous as to how but they seemed to regard the Mural in high regards. The Mural also had Face Huggers which was the TWO alternative HR Giger Designs.. but was these just Easter Eggs?

If not... this shows they had been experimenting and evolving Organisms related to the Xenomorph DNA Origins, and either the Deacon Mural was the intended purpose, or eventual Perfected creation, or this Creature was reverse Engineered to create various Face Huggers.

You need to get a understanding for the Black Goo and Sacrificial Goo to understand whats going on, and Spaights Draft held the Answers...  The Nano-Scarabs are what the Goo now is.

Nano-Scarabs (from Sacrificial Cup) Eat the Engineer, until there is nothing left... these Scarabs Each have Stored the Engineers DNA.... One of these then bites a Female Primate and injects the Engineers DNA into it... which Evolves the Primate into a Engineer/Primate Hybrid that leads to Mankind.

Fifield stumbles into a URN containing Nano-Scarabs and some bit him and inject a foreign DNA... Fifield Mutates into a Xeno/Human Hyrbid with Acid Blood.

Replace.. Sacrificial Scarabs with Sacrificial Goo, then replace URN Scarabs with the Black Goo (that is the result of a Organism having its DNA broken down and stored in the Mutagen).

Then look at the Mural, its in a Cruciform Pose like Christ, and we look at the Crucifixion of Christ not as GOD but that its to represent the Sacrifice Jesus made for Mankind.  Spaights Sacrificial Engineer took the same Pose as he was being consumed by the Scarabs.

The Green Crystal was Originally the Sacrificial Bowl  and so its now easier to see they had experimented with Organisms related to the Xenomorph until they had obtained the Mural Deacon and they then Sacrificed it with the Sacrificial Goo and Collected the broken down Material to use in the Urns, so they can then Seed Worlds by upgrading the DNA to this new Organism that they held in high regards..

This shows how a few minor changes can really effect the movie, by keeping the Bowl, and by using some of the other Fifield Concepts we would have seen a more clearer picture of what is going on.

One Reason for changing it?  The Bowl is Large, larger than the one at the Start of the Movie, but we need to remember the Engineers was also supposed to be 10ft tall... but they did not pull this off when they interacted with Humans and so this made the Bowl look a bit Large.

The Source i had over 2 years ago, claimed/hinted that the Green Crystal was a Stolen Shard taken from a Obelisk on Paradise that the Hierarchy of the Engineers used to Produce the Sacrificial Goo. The LV-223 Engineers after a Rebellion had Stolen this to carry out their own Creations.

-What killed the engineers?

-Why did the engineers head react so heavily during the autopsy?

This is just as ambiguous and so this theory is one i take, we need to remember Production had began on the movie based off Spaights Draft and so Some Engineers had been Chest Busted and others then killed by the Aliens.

Prometheus changed this... the clues really are in the Dialog, both Shaw saying she feels there was some kind of outbreak as she has seen this before (Ebola), Janek saying about (deleted Scene) how he had to be part of a Mission to Blow Up a Facility on Earth because the Scientists Spillt something and they could not allow the contamination to escape.

David then mentions about how Holloway and her Father Died under such similar circumstances (Ebola), these all point to the Mutagenic Substance causing a Outbreak.. we dont know how though.

If we look at the Bodies they have holes in various places and we can even see they appear to be Hollow.. there are no Bones, not Remains inside, just a empty Shell.   Apart from the Head that was in the Big Head/Mural Room which these Engineers was trying to Run towards.

This head was kept in a good state of Preservation, its as if the effects of the Black Goo had been stopped.. the Urns was not activated until the Humans effected the Atmosphere of the Room  (wearing no Helmets?), This could show us the Space Jockey suits are Bio-Hazard Hazmat type Suits.

Go back to the Sacrificial Scene the Engineer consumes the Sacrificial Goo in a large dose, his body then disintegrates down, a violent chemical reaction is happening.  The results of this fall into the Waterfall and some cascade off into the wind.

What happens if a violent chemical reaction is contained within a Pressured Suit?  I am sure you are aware of putting a Minto into a Coke and it causes a violent chemical reaction as bubbles get trapped into the pours and causes a rapid increase in carbonated CO2, if you add this to a Bottle and get the Lid on Fast, then this builds up MASSIVE Pressure inside the Bottle.  The Reaction tries to escape from the Bottle the Bottle Expands, and if the Reaction is a Good one the Bottle can Explode... if the Bottle had a tiny Hole that you covered with tape.. that would prevent the Coke from leaking.... ONCE you add the Mint the Violent reaction is so much that the tape would not hold it and the Bottle would explode or the hole would be made bigger and it would escape.

I Therefore believe this is what happened to the Engineers, and the Head was kept inside that Room that would have prevented the Black Goo from having a effect... hence why the Engineers wanted to get there...

Once the head was reactivated the Chemical Reaction of the Black Goo began again, while breaking down and Changing the Engineers DNA.

-What did David actually say to the engineer? How come he can speak their language?

-Why did the engineer become so violent?

David had been studying Many Ancient Linguistics while he was on the Prometheus, this allowed him to communicate with the Engineer.

The Conversation was much longer and two ways and Ian Whyte had to learn a lot of Dialog that actually translated into something...  But they did not like his voice and so dubbed over it with a voice that made no sense... just made up words.

The deleted Scenes was longer, but they was not even as long as the Original Shot scenes.

A rough Translation...

David informs the Engineer that they had came just as they asked.

The Engineer informs them that they was not invited, and asks why have they came.

David informs him that Weyland is dying and he wishes the Gods to grant him more life.

The Engineer then asks why should he be granted this, what makes this man worthy of such a thing.

Weyland then speaks about how he created David, and this makes him a God and Gods should never die....

The never seen part is David relays this to the Engineer.

The Engineer takes pity on David at first, and then uses his head on Weyland... because how dare these Humans come here and proclaim to be Gods.

The Engineer was angry likely because of Weylands Questions and seeing that Weyland put his Agenda above that of Shaw, and even ordered her to be Silenced.

The Engineer then had realized that Mankind is still Selfish, Cruel and Arrogant and now they can Travel the Stars, and even create their own Life in their own image who can use Engineer Technology and knows their Language.

There is no way this Engineer could allow Mankind to have all this as they would pose a massive threat.

Replace.. Sacrificial Scarabs with Sacrificial Goo, then replace URN Scarabs with the Black Goo (that is the result of a Organism having its DNA broken down and stored in the Mutagen).

Then look at the Mural...

Whoa slow down man, you're hitting me over the head with all these new terms I've never even heard off. I think you're giving it too much thought to be honest. No way it was all meant to be THIS deep. I like most of your theories but ultimately, they're just what they are: your take on all of it. We won't know anything for sure untill we get another movie from Ridley, fact.

-Why was the engineer in hypersleep for 2000 years when he could have just taken a ship to go to his relatives?

This is very open to debate... and the deleted scenes change the perspective of this..

The Engineer went into Cryo-sleep to escape the effects of the Outbreak is the most likely cause....

Then we just dont know, if he had a say Alarm Clock that never went off and so he overslept... or if he had been waiting for others of his Race to come to rescue him?

The Deleted Scenes add up to maybe did this Engineer have a change of Heart and did he Sabotage the mission?

Indeed surely they would know the Half-Life of the Black Goo and so would know how many years to stay in Cryo-sleep.

If this is the case, and his intentions was the same, he could have left LV-223 at a latter time and carried out with the Mission, or even returned to the Home-world and explained what happened.

A lot depends on his Agenda and what side he is on...

Did he perform a Sacrificial Act to prevent the Mission and then kept himself locked away.

It seems the re-shoots and Plot Ridley was now going for was that these beings are simply Nasty and not Benevolent and he simply Went into Cryo-sleep and never woke up.

The Hologram seemed to show they was getting ready to leave and go into Cryo-sleep before things went to POT...

Spaights draft showed a extended one, where David fast forwards the recording and then we see One Last Engineer who was rushing around and Panicking.

Well a lot are theories based off clues, and its the deleted scenes and other drafts that help with the answers... without them its a harder task.... and Ridley has never given any answers.

I can see the same thing happening with Alien Covenant... and its flaws... the only shining light would be the Novel by ADF.

So the only way to get those Prometheus answers may have to be a Prequel Book set thousands of years ago

So yes Prometheus requires a lot of effort and study and deeply, which is why some like it but its why some dont
