I watched Covenant with some people from work. We planned this viewing since day 1 ticket sales. We all left the theater asking the same question...David may be on the Covenant, But Walter must still be on the planet since he cannot die technically.  I foresee a future story where Walter tries to save.  I got my dollar on Walter ending up in many films to come. It's his duty ;)

I was wondering that as well. That part is open ended and it's left ambiguous. The way I see it either he decided to help David when David asked that final question or David killed Walter but Walter had him in a bad spot and already showed he could heal himself. I'm going with he's still on the planet.

With the eggs and the crashed juggernaut? (I've not seen the film yet)

So I wonder, will Walter end up being the space jockey somehow? hmm lol

I truly believe Walter had good intentions for the crew. At the same time David showed Walter how easy it is to learn things he was programmed not to learn. Going to see it a 2nd time in Imax. Maybe I'll connect more.  I also noticed a lot of female engineers. I paid a sick amount of attention to this after reading the comments regarding the urn bombing

@dave I totally agree. I think David changed Walter. People are ragging on the flute scene but yet that scene is so important. That honestly cleared up a loose end in Prometheus if you think about it. At least now I better understand davids actions better or at least they make more sense.

I'm surprised no one got all hissy about the bro kiss lol.

He did say something along the lines of, no one can love you like I can. It showed how different David and Walter are programmed. It leads me to believe Weyland really did some fu$_ed up stuff to David.

I also noticed in the very first scene when weyland treated him like a two bit servant davids face showed a little contempt. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Bottom line fassbender did a great job of acting in this film. I kind of thought something was up when it looked like David cracked a very tiny smile or his frown changed slightly when he was watching the alien chasing Daniels and T. So I was kind of surprised at the twist but I thought damn. Again maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

No you aren't.  I think this was the intention. The first scene was spot on. David was a little B from the beginning!

I watched the Prometheus deleted and alternate scenes on the Blu Ray this evening and he was quite "chilly" a different David. A few scenes or alterations can complete change a character. Giggled when I saw the way Shaw picked up his head.

I would love to see Walter involved in a future film. Loved his character.  Hard to tell with Ridley Scott though. I wonder what the deleted footage will show us when it comes out on Blu Ray.

In the novelisation they point, Walter also can create just not in a straight, easy way. It is pretty hard for him, but he can. Thats why the flute scene was important. In the end he could create a very easy melody(it's not in the film). So it means, if he is on the planet, and still working, maybe he can fix or do something to escape from there.

Other possibility: he realizes, David has right, so this is Walter's and David's covenant. Maybe he gave his body but David leads him.

Another one: David uses Walter's body, but im sure, thats why Walter can control David in an indirect way. So we will got a schizopreniac robot...

These are just theories, i dont know, what the film makers want from this character. I also hope, there's something more than he is living alone on a dead planet.

That's probably Walter back on the Covenant (with David's software in him).  David's body is probably lying broken on the planet's surface.  Two red herrings show this... the android that is back on the Covenant has no hole in his chin, and he can speak properly (David's voicebox was damaged).

Who's to say he wasn't faking the voice issue? As for the hole in his chin, we don't really see much of that angle once he's in Walter's clothes, and by the time he's on the Covenant, patching himself up, he could have fixed that by the time Daniels comes to help him.

Ridely has confirmed in an interview that it is David in David's body at the end, not David taking over Walter's body.

In the novel, David's skin heals, but it appears that is not the case in the movie since David had to stitch up his wounds.

Indeed RS did clear up that David disabled Walter and Stole his Clothes and then cut off his hand....

I think while Walter can regenerate, i think this only implies to maybe Tissue etc... i am not sure if he can regenerate a Hand.

I also think that this does not make Walter Indestructible, and so the right kind of hit in the right place would disable him, which David no doubt did with that Knife.

Is Walter totally Destroyed? who knows, maybe he is just incapacitated, i doubt we will ever see Walter again.  At least not in the next movie as i doubt the Company would send a mission to Paradise.  And if Engineers return then we really dont know how they would behave around a Walter.

I however do think we will see a Walter Model in future and maybe even the next movie, as i think David wont be in that movie with just one Hand.

I will assume at  very least the Covenant has Walter Spares and David manages to Repair his Hand.... for those who liked Walters Character.... Fear not i think Walter Character will return, but as in David pretending to be Walter.... which he can not do with Daniels so she is bound to bite the Dust.

I also think Tennessee will also be killed, and then David can alter the Ships Logs and then come up with what ever excuse/event to the Crew he decides to wake up.

David's report sent at the end of the movie indicated the entire crew had been killed in an accident, so presumably he has already altered the ships logs. I'm not sure that matters, as David can wake up and incapacitate people one at a time for his experiments, making the logs moot.

But I doubt we will see either of the Covenant survivors in the next movie. I expect the story will jump forward quite a bit, unless characters in the next movie will be those who had been awakened for experiments long before.

Indeed RS/FOX have backed themselves into a corner with this movie now...

The movie will have David, Two Face Huggers and about 1940 Colonist in Cryo-sleep.... we need to consider Davids Agenda, surely he would not need to awake the crew if his Agenda is to experiment on them.... he could awaken them one at a time and then they will be at his Whim...

This makes a bit of a boring movie though.... and why would David go to Origae-6?  Why not take the Ship to Paradise or LV-223 etc.

They will have to add the Human Element in the next movie, be it a Company Recovery Mission.... or Intercept and it depends how much the Humans of the Company are aware of what is going on and to what extent does AI Pull any Strings.

I can see Logically the movie will at very least have David setting up Experiments but then i expect a malfunction that Activates a number of Cryo-sleep Pods to awaken the crew against the Planned Wishes of David... where they then discover the Horrors David has been up to and these woken Colonist must battle to Survive or maybe also even Save the rest of the Crew.

I have strong doubts about that .  Remember, he's not trying to fool Walter with a phony voice problem... there's no point to doing that.  Again: no wound in the chin, and they make quite a point of showing the underside of his chin several times:

Why wouldn't he try to fool Walter? It would prove a distraction, which is exactly what he wanted.

As I have already said about the puncture wound, who's to say he didn't patch it up in the 20 minute time frame RS gives for the entire time during the fight and subsequent escape by David? Daniels and Lope aren't going to be looking for it whilst dealing with an Alien trying to get inside the transport.

Once he was on board the Covenant, he could have patched it up as the first thing to do. Daniels doesn't come upon him until he's stapling his face. Or, maybe such a small would could heal on its own.

Either way, it's David.

I think Walter is still alive. David didn't have to kill him (If he can at all) He just had to take his place on the ship. How he knew Davids access code brings up another theory. Could David somehow program himself into Walters body? Wouldn't that be ironic in a world where he constantly tries to perfect exsistence? The flute scene I believe was never suppose to alter Walters perception, but rather confuse him and maybe even gain a little android trust just long enough to do what he need to do to give birth to an alien nation. If David didn't implant himself into the more hardy and technically advance shell of Walter, how did he have the access codes? If David did damage Walter just long enough to escape given Walter's healing power he is probably still alive. Which leads us to a other question. Did the flute scene between the too simply prove that Walter has the creative means to create a way off of the planet to save the day? I don't think that the Walter betrayal argument can hold up. It's been done with David and I doubt Ridley Scott would double tap the android Judas idea again.

The novel makes it more clear that Walter is still alive and on the planet.

After David assumes Walters identity, he immediately warns Daniel's that "David" is still alive and at large (presumably so that if Walter tries to come to her aid, she believe it's David).
