I suppose that Lid of the sarcophagus Wereshnefer was Giger's influence for the mural.
As for the derelict im not sure,he began working on the derelict design one night when he woke up from nightmare and couldn't sleep anymore. He worked from Ridley's comments that it should appear totally inhuman.

Dark Nebula- the similarity is undeniable- never saw that before.

Did a little research.
Giger loved Egyptian art.
Looks like the derelict was influenced by Egyptian funeral barge

Nice ancient findings... indeed maybe it had a influence?
I think the design that Giger did as i answered on another thread was to suggest the Derelict was indeed a Living Bio-Mechanical Organism that was very related to the Xenomorph DNA
And that the Ship produced the Eggs...
This was Gigers plans with the Mural and Egg Silo as the Mural was to be placed above what Giger referred to as Pregnant Bellies that would Birth the Eggs.
This was his concept work intention....
Its a shame this Vision was never upheld or explored in Prometheus.

Also Gigers first design he did for Alien as far as the Alien was nothing really like the Final Designs..
Sorry for the Low Resolution but its the only image to my knowledge on the Internet of this work, that was very Female, that Evolved to the 2nd design
Which is one of TWO Prototype designs HR Giger did for Alien, now he was asked to design these after Ridley Scott was shown Gigers Necronom 4 and 3 designs.... the Actual Alien we got was kind of a mixture of those TWO.

Wow good catch for the Derelict. I as well never saw that or the connection.

I can remember starting a topic in 2012 on the Prometheus-Movie forum about the funerary barge's influence on the Jockey design and I got ripped to ****in shreds!
How times change hey?
Great topic!
The poster was good though!

The design influences seem to be rather stock-Giger. Penises and vaginas. The 'prongs' of the Derelict could be seen as legs (that are vaguely phallic until you get to he ends) with three vaginal openings in the middle.

On here? or elsewhere lol
There seems to be connections but who knows how much we read into these or not.. certainly Giger stuff did have a few connections but how much we are meant to read into it who knows.

No, on that other site we used to be members of BigDave.
In fact, if I remember correctly, you was one of the only people who could see the similarities.
The poster was good though!

Necronom 4- Maybe times have changed. All I can say is I wasn't around then to shred anyone. Maybe you could send that info to this thread for a re visit?

The Juggernaut/Derelict connection to the mural sprang to mind immediately when I first saw the mural.

I would if I could find it. Have looked through my topics and can't see it anywhere.
Maybe it was just a reply I made to another members post. I have no idea.
Never mind. Not important now.
Great topic though bud!
The poster was good though!

Fantastic point dk in regards to the Giger art influence on the Engineer ship. Everything we see of the Engineers has a theme and it all seems to fit somewhere in a Giger painting.

Other site lol
The Prometheus one? That connects to Scified i assume, as i have not joined the other site lol... probably be banned from there lol
More Chance me staying in the USA with a Sombrero Hat ;)

I believe the movie poster is an adaptation of the below artwork.
The biomechanical archway of the top image is similar to the same structure in the movie poster, same content (xenomorph life cycle) in both.

Here is the reverse value image of the movie poster to enhance shadow details.

Dark Nebula, absolutely a great find. No question regarding the influence in the Giger painting.
"I suppose that Lid of the sarcophagus Wereshnefer was Giger's influence for the mural."

Mix of Giger's original mural from Alien, the mural from prometheus and Jan Van Eyck Last Judgement I presume (lower part of the painting).
Soo many biblical references.
