Pretty sure it's an Engineer.

There was another thread with a brighter image and the other half of it's head was pale white like an Engineer.

David wishes to find out more about Creation, he found out about his creator and was disappointed, he found out about his creators creator and realized they are Mortal Too

But they played a role in creation, they possessed Technology and Tools that made them so Godlike... now David would know if he has this knowledge and tools he could now play God.

David has some insight into the Black Goo, no doubt he would want to know how it, the Engineers and what ever else they was involved in is connected to Creation...

So David would want to know how does Creation work and wants to experiment himself and for that he needs Genetic Material.

The Sacrificial Goo and maybe Black Goo are very powerful tools, they allow for the maybe impossible to be possible...

If we look at Dr Moreau and in that Book/Movies the Experiments he was doing that well sound rather ridiculous, well with Prometheus... the Sacrificial Goo and to some degree the Black Goo allow these kinds of things to become a Reality.

What if it's Shaw plastinated (although it looks male the picture is cut off just above possible breasts)? She would then stand statue for ever as the foremother of the xenomorphs . . .

Thanks for the input BigDave,The Island of Dr.Moreau Is a rather interesting comparison.What a man might do if left to his own devices long enough.Certainly he would feel he's a god,which seems like what is going on with David.chli:WOW,that's something i haven't considered,it would be quite the horrible fate for Shaw indeed,forever on display in David's workshop of abominations like some sick trophy.

Dr Moreau is is an interesting comparison, will David's downfall be at the hands of one of his creations?

I've previously quoted that Davids human elements are being motivated by how he's been treated by his creators and their creators, thus affecting his programming and becoming more evil. However the more I think about it, David is just doing what Weyland programmed him to do plus David firmly believes he is just like Lawrence of Arabia and is fascinated by him
The only person he takes orders from is dead, so is David defaulting to Lawrence?

Self destructive and self loathing
Confuses pain with pleasure and is fascinated with it
Uses violent methods and enjoys them
Carries out tasks considered impossible
Swoops in to solve problems
Intelligence and endurance are Lawrence's main attributes as Davids are
He wants his magnificence recognised like Lawrence craved

I don't think David will be outright evil, I think he will be behaving like Lawrence whilst experimenting with the Engineers tech, ultimately wanting his duplicated Engineer creations ( his own magnificence) to be fully recognised?

Except that David seems to lack empathy or sympathy so he really couldn't be called evil, but perhaps afflicted with a psychiatric disorder since he is unable to know the full spectrum of human emotions? Just a thought.

His new vice will undoubtedly be the Engineers work, but Lawrence has left an indelible mark on the way he behaves, which is indeed very troubled....

Yes, as a synthetic David lacks emotions such as empathy and sympathy but he can intellectually understand human emotions. He is also not programmed with psychic inhibition . . .

Dr. Moreau is a good reference and also Frankenstein springs to mind. Victor Frankenstein is obsessed with creating life (since his mother died in childbirth). The “monster” which he finally creates (using electricity), becomes evil because of how he is treated by people and being rejected by his creator. He therefore seeks revenge . . .

So basically David can fake it to make it just like people. Not so robotic after all?

Its a corps taken from the bunch of dead bodies we can see in the second trailer, where we see david heading to the ruined city. David is clearly into studying the engineer tech and their methods, black goo does have advanced properties.

There are no live specimens on the planet, thats why the covenant comes to david so to speak, so he can finally test his observations and conclusions on live beings, humanoids preferably ;-)
