Saving Dr. Elizabeth Shaw

This has become a popular theory as of late,so I credit all those who inspired it.Here's my spin on the theory.Of course we all Shaw was impregnated by a black goo infected Holloway, and eventually gave birth(via c-section) to the trilobite. What is likely that it may have left some DNA behind in her.You may recall that the trilobite came with an umbilical cord.We also know that, thanks to the hammerpedes and much like the facehuggers, that the black goo byproducts have a tremendous healing speed l.So what if something left behind from the trilobite's umbilical cord started to grow inside Elizabeth Shaw, and i'm not talking about another trilobite. One possible angle is an egg/ovamorph,perhaps it starts growing and expanding within Shaw before David has to put her in stasis.Since it's possibly a part of making perhaps impossible to remove,David's experiments are possibly the results of him trying to figure out how to successfully remove.I'll admit that one has some holes in it.Another angle would the black goo from the trilobite has potentially woven itself into her DNA,causing her to evolve into something, maybe a queen Alien or more likely a bastardisation of it(think Cale in Aliens:Fire and Stone.)Shaw perhaps becomes the mother of a new breed(think of the different looking egg and the protomorph)and David is perhaps trying to reverse it.What do you guys think?

Anything's possible but I think if Shaw was still carrying goo it would've manifested in the week between the destruction of Prometheus and she and David leaving LV-223.

The idea of David trying to help Shaw however, has just made me wonder if Covenant might be a take on The Tempest where David = Prospero, Shaw = Miranda and Walter = Antonio.  (I dunno beyond that; my knowledge of The Tempest is less than basic).

Not super familiar with the Tempest either.Quite possible,David perhaps puts Shaw in stasis onboard the juggernaut.

"What see'st though else in the dark and backwards abysm of time."That's the most i know of the Tempest.

Wow, that could be an option! If David has indeed mastered the tech and what not on that planet, then it would be interesting trying to completely save Shaw was one the real reason he started. It is sort of disappointing that we will not see Shaw and David's journey together on screen, but I guess that prequel book that Alan Dean Foster is writing will have to make it up for me!

It's a new angle, and perhaps a superior one to David just simply being evil.Gives David even more depth.

I would love the idea of David actually trying to help Shaw, my gut tells me otherwise. David does have an affinity for her,  but I don't think David can help himself at this point.

His desire to become a creator versus a creation cannot and will not allow an opportunity this (Shaw and the possibilities) great to pass by.

Bottom Line: David may be cooking up some Alien egg surprise with a dash or two of Elizabeth Shaw sprinkled in...

I agree with you nin. I think it would be highly likely she is infected in some way with the black goo. I also think it will be explored in the prequel book or in covenant. I don't think David will kill her at least not on purpose.

Agreed on both points.Prometheus made it pretty clear that David seemed to like Shaw, perhaps obsessed even. Can't wait for the book,do we no when it'd be released?

think its kinda been taken from what other people theorised on other threads about shaw becoming a 'queen'. we have no idea what other effects the infected Holloway had on her. some assume the trilobite is THE effect but what if her womb has been morphed into something similar to that of a xeno queen and she now continues to produce trilobites? the texture of the trilobite at first seems similar to that of a squid which could mean she could give birth to them naturally. this is the effect of the goo and david knows this, as it was he who infected Holloway. he has grown affectionate, curious towards shaw so actually means her no harm. she may even be the one to repair his severed head after all. he knows that the key to saving her is to experiment on other infected forms of life buts soon comes to realise that he needs human infected subjects. so he keeps shaw in stasis and sends his distress signal, the convenant lands but his experiments wield results he didn't take into account. after all he is, to my knowledge, unaware of the deacon so may not see the next stage in the life cycle coming. basically all his dastardly deeds r indeed motivated by good intentions towards shaw

The trilobite birth is a curiosity of mine.I other wonder if she would have given birth naturally or if it would have torn its way out of her, like a Chestburster. Before the c-section begins,it looks as if it's trying to push it's way out through her stomach.

does look that way and im sure that was the intent. but its look and textured made me think how could that burst out of someone? its too soft and squishy. the xeno and deacon were hardened and at least could chew theyr way free. though the big trilobite def had a pretty devilish set of nashers, the new born trilobite just didn't make me believe it would come out that way, which makes me think if shaw was to birth naturally, then her mutation could mean she produces more of them?

Good point. For the softer looking trilobite  it may have followed the easier path of the birth canal if left alone.

ali81

MemberNeomorphFeb-23-2017 11:46 PM

yes. the stretching of the stomach may have been it positioning itself to go down that 'route'?

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianFeb-23-2017 11:51 PM

I never thought of it that way. It's a pretty gross thought(reminiscent of The Fly)but rather accurate.

yea horrible thought haha makes u wonder though, the trilobite and the deacon must be pure one off freak accident no?

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianFeb-24-2017 12:04 AM

If they don't show up in Covenant, yeah. If Ridley can find a creative way to make use of them then they can be used effectively.I haven't gotten that far yet,but in one of the Fire and Stone comics,i believe the Deacon plays a rather surprising role.

is the deacon not the android in fire and stone?

ali81

MemberNeomorphFeb-24-2017 12:12 AM

what I mean by freak accident is that, the goo is a WMD ok. any semi intelligent species with the intent of using such a weapon would most likely deploy it for initial maximum effect no? say airborne pathogen or into the water supply (I would anyway). the chances that they designed the black goo for the purpose that transpired between Holloway and Shaw surely couldn't have been foreseen? its designed to mutate, highten aggression and then destroy the infected host. Holloway was only exposed to a drop where Fifield was face down in the stuff so would make sense his transformation was more rapid

I'm on AVP right now.I don't which one it is but it's eventually revealed that the Deacon is the mountain growing on LV-223,complete with acid veins running through if I'm correct.Did you read Predator and Prometheus-Omega?

yea they go into the mountain and the android becomes one with it. I liked that take on the effect of the goo seeping down into the planet and transforming it, bringing it to life so to speak. I loved all the animals in it. the water def wasn't a place u wanted to go lol
