MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 1:47 PMI'm in the U.S. so I haven't seen it yet, but what I have seen is dozens of reviews and opinions being posted on how awful and disappointing the movie is. I'm still going to see it for myself regardless but is it as bad as the majority is making it out to be?

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 1:50 PMIn my opinion the only person who can decide if it is really that bad is you. Until you see it yourself, I think it will be impossible to know for sure how good or bad it really is.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 2:07 PMno it isn't that bad, its just we live in an age that can't tell the difference between bad movies like battleship and good movies like prometheus.
everybody was expecting an instant masterpiece like alien, setting ourselves a bar so impossibly high it was bound to deflate our expectations. don't go in with a mental ticklist of what you want and you won't be dissapointed, its just a movie, a very enjoyable one and thats all it should be. the story was intelligent and the acting was good, the special effects are amazing.
when bladerunner came out the critics hated it
when gladiator came out the first wave of reviews made it seem like a justin bieber movie

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 2:08 PMWell, i have seen it and i will see it again, so it must be not "that" bad.
But the question is - in comparison to WHAT?
Its maybe one of the best Sci-Fi Movies in the last 10 years, but its not as good (to me) like Alien and especially Aliens has been.
But it has a new fresh look and interesting ideas.
The biggest problem is that the characters seem very 1dimensional and the actors dont feel so "authentic and sympathic" like in Alien1, to my opinion.
Also many logic and behaviour "holes".
People get in trouble - and no one of the other crew members seems to be care about that.
Anyway - i enjoyed and will see it again, so i wish you much fun.
Maybe lower your expectations, then you cant go wrong...

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 2:10 PMI personally think the best scifi film of the decade is either Moon or District 9.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 2:21 PMNo, I didn't find it that bad, it just feels rushed and has lots of removed scenes it seems. Also, don't expect a sci-fi horror movie, but a sci-fi thriller for the educated soul.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 3:01 PMThe film was rubbish, there I said it. I don't consider myself a movie novice and I'm all game for a thinking movie, but this was neither a thinking film or action/thriller. This film tried to be both and feel spactulary short on both fronts. I didn't have a mental checklist when I went to see it, figured I wouldn't need it, the films quality will shine through is what I thought. No, kinda early I realise this isn't the film I came to see, so then its playing catchup, it's spent so long trying to set scenes and plots and separate stories that it fails on all and then just ends! The ending had no wow, the films main body had now wow and there wasn't even any homage to Alien. Nothing to draw me back other than special effects and you so didn't need them to get my attention Ridley, you didn't need it then and you don't now!

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 3:59 PMNot bad in terms of photography. But the scripts sucks. That's no scriptwriting, just a jumble of ideas and oneliners.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 4:02 PM@Drakeequation:
District 9 act 1 & 2 was far more interesting than Prom. act 2 and 3. You're quite right. For Moon, I wasn't impressed. To much 2001 and Silent Running to my taste.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 3:23 PMI have just joined my first ever forum to let you know it really is that bad...
It is just another version of Mission to Mars (remeber that..?) with tenticles at the end. It is as bad as Indy 4 and The Phantom Menance.
I hate to say it but all involved has let themselves down it really is the biggest disappointment.
Please leave Blade Runner alone..

Can anyone tell me the purpose of Charlize Theron's character in this movie? Weyland's daughter, how did that fit into the plot? Was there a plot?
It was awful. I requested my money back from the theater. That was a first.
