The first time i heard about this was almost three years ago when it was announced that ridley was making an alien prequel that started as rumour, and hearsay,.. Then it was confirmed he was making an alien prequel and that sparked an interest in me not felt for many years . Then i began searching day in, day out, for later developments it then became apparent that ridley wanted to make a movie that had a stand alone quality to it that could be referenced to alien, but introduce us to a whole new aspect to this universe.
Then it was reported that the film was not an alien prequel but a sc fi epic that had the dna of the original alien universe but really had nothing to do with alien. I remember reading this and thinking jesus what's going on here i wish they would make their mind up. Then came the news of the tie in with the space jockeys, and how they came to be and the whole Gods, and engineers, element this got me really up for this film but still i was confused at the marketing and talk of what this was going to be.
You see if this film and its makers had been up front from the onset and were a little clearer in their intent of what they were going to do but still managed to keep the details under wraps, i feel sc fi fans, and expectations, would not have been so disjointed, and we would of known how to prepare and prime, ourselves for what we could expect from this film.
As it stands they have sent out so many mixed messages out there, and they have Convoluted our expectations to a point that its annoying, and frustrating, especially with regards to the rating, and epic length, etc. The story itself not so much because no one wants to give the whole details away of a great film, but i think they could of handled the clarity, and marketing, for this film better from the get go.
Having said that there are lots to say they did get right the cast, and crew, and the viral marketing has been great, and it has worked brilliantly in the interest this film has achieved in generating . I just feel there are aspects of the film's marketing that have been confusing and frustrating, especially when you have drawn in the alien, franchise fans to this and their preconceived notions of the universe they are passionate about.
Is their anyone else who feels this could of been handled much better and how they could of explained their intentions with much better clarity. thanks altered.
