MemberOvomorph01/15/2012Who else out there is entirely sick and tired of people calling 'Prometheus' a rip-off of Dead Space and or Halo?
It's driving me insane. It's all over the you tube comment pages. The reasoning is so ludicrous and there's no reasoning with these people either...

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012well its the same when people watched The Lord of the Rings and said " ohh nooo again orks and elves !!" ...lol

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012alien was the one that started a genre, if anything halo and dead space are alien rip offs

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012no problem. i give credit where it is deserved. halo and dead space evoled from doom and everybody knows doom was a mix of aliens and evil dead. case closed. no apeal no parole

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012UGH I KNOW!!! I've seen it all over since the trailer came out. They have no idea how Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Blade Runner contributed to the science fiction universe. Honestly if they have NO idea what Prometheus is about there probably young kids who've never been educated on the Alien series before or Ridley Scott in general. I've learned to ignore them cause we Alien fans here know the truth God Damnit!!!

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012hopefully when they see the full trailer these kids will know what terror truely is. im tired of the ring, the grudge, scream, and all these godawful remakes of classic horror movies. i want my gothic horror in space back dammit. i want something that really scares me and entertains my sences, not a cg free for all. people nowadays have no idea what a good movie is if were to bite them square on the ass. sorry if i went a bit far but i needed to vent

walterhiller
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012the reasoning is awful. but the reason is clear. 12 year old kids who've never seen alien. there's more and more of these people with the proliferation of internet.

Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012I completely understand where your coming from deadcell. I think all of us Alien fans need to vent after waiting 15 years for another Alien film. Its been 15 years since the original Alien series has been known to people. Its just like a book thats been sitting around a shelf for years and needs to be dusted off. Most kids i talk to today even young adults have NEVER scene the Alien series or for that matter a Ridley Scott film.
I can't agree with you more about how horror movies now adays are diluted with cgi, ripped off character and story elements from other films and done effortlessly. Scares are more humorous nowadays than horrific and everything horror based is all done on simple jump scares rather than real imaginative horror and original thought. When I can become sucked into the story and I can embrace the horror of a AUTHENTIC horror film thats what does me in. When the characters are emotionally charged and you can feel for them and its not ALL dependent on violence, blood and jump scare tactics thats real horror. What real horror stories and most movies nowadays lack are ORIGINALITY, STORY and honestly MYSTERY. I can't tell you how many movies spoil every good scene through a trailer.
I miss my Alien series and FINALLY after 15 years we get another one. Done only by the infamous and legendary Ridley Scott. The man that started it all. 2 prequels and a revival of what I believe to be THE BEST scifi/horror series in cinema history...THE ALIEN SERIES!! Fuck all the young kids and adults who think they have seen it all. They've seen nothing if they've never seen Alien and they don't know any kind of cinema if they haven't heard of THE Ridley Scott.

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012i want my alien, i want my evil dead, i want my freakin nightbreed and some good old fashioned clive barker, it, god the list goes on and on. kids nowadays are to pc. maybe this will open their eyes to what we grew up with.
and i will thank all of you that see my way of things. the cult b horror movie is such a lost art. maybe if these new hotshot directors will take a class called hitchcok 101 maybe the film industry wouldnt be in the shape its in. i hate to say that its actually inspireing me to write again. hopefully something good comes out of this

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012Ripley Clone 8, deadcell, walterhiller...I needed to vent and you answered the call, thanks.
And I agree Ripley Clone 8, I prefer it when 'its not ALL dependent on violence, blood and jump scare tactics' as well. There's just no substitute for good storytelling, intelligent filmmaking and quality acting in a film that doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Your also right walterhiller, they probably are just a bunch of ignorant adolescents...but my faith in my fellow man's taste withered away long ago...It's hard to let ignorance slide. You know?
Speaking of quality horror, I must recommend another one of my favorite films...it's a horror flick from France in the 50's called 'Eyes Without A Face'. It has everything we talked about and it doesn't rely on petty gore and blood lust to tell a compelling story...check it out.

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012good call. no prob craigamore we all need a kindred spirit in these times of tribulation and awful motion pictures. the only outlet i have is my dvd collection and maybe a quick read of h.p lovecraft. if your up for it, check out the autonovel of dagon and shadows over innsmouth. best horror ive heard in a long time.but i definatly will search eyes without a face dude.

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012Trust me deadcell....if your willing to read subtitles, it's an amazing film. Also, check out 'La Jetee'...also french. It's the film from the early 60's that '12 Monkeys' is a remake of. VERY cool and quite unique.

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012And thanks for the novel tip. I'm reading the 'Alien' novellization at the moment, but that'll make it into my que.

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012no prob dude. always up to give props to lovecraft. i actually read the alien 3 novel. better than the movie, but not much lol

Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012sweet craigamore. I haven't had the chance to read the first 2 Alien novelizations but I was able to get myself a copy of the Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection novelizations a few years back. They were great. Let me know how the Alien novelization is.

MemberOvomorph01/15/2012I'm enjoying it...it's funny though. Foster has moments where he really draws you in, then he puntuactes them with unnecessary literary flourishes that make it seem like he's trying too hard. And the novel omits the SpaceJockey from the interior of the derelict. I think he was working from an early version of the script.
The most interesting thing concerns that post a month back that had the reference to a broken vase of sorts...'Prometheus' connection...well, there's more...When Kane's investigating the eggs, he notes to himself how similar they look to the mechanical, inert vases that Dallas found.,,like they related somehow.
It's small information, but none the less interesting.

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012there's alot that connects to prometheus in the original script from dan o'bannon and ronald shusette. like the dome behind the derelict where they find the eggs. and have you all seen giger's artwork for alien 3, man that guy is out there

Gehirn
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012I've seen a few people cry out about Prometheus being an Avatar rip-off too. It's like they see a waterfall in the trailer and all of a sudden Cameron has a copyright on all of nature. LOL
Ironically, they're going to be the people that enjoy Prometheus the most because they have no bleepin' idea what's going on.

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012god are they really comparing it to avatar. wow, now all sci fi is a rip off of each other. prometheus and alien have about as much in common with avatar as barney has with the jackson 5.

deadcell
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012ok im callin it a night. i have to be up at 5 to bring my wife to work. you guys kick ass, craig, ripley clone, walterhiller, later. and remember i prefer the term artifical person myself

craigamore
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012Haven't you heard Gehirn? 'Prometheus can't be a rip-off of 'Avatar'. 'Avatar' is already a rip-off of 'Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest'....and I'm being totally serious. Check out the plot on wikipedia. I remembered it from my childhoodright after I saw 'Avatar' in the theater. I was so disappointed in him.

Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorph01/15/2012Catch you later deadcell. It was great talking to you all. Talk to you guys later
Signing off.....

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I think that the people that are compairing it to Halo and Dead Space are the younger crowd. All of the people on this website know where a lot of these movies and games got their insperation.

CBT1979
MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I would rather say that dead space is
influenced by the thing (with kurt russell)
while halo got also inspiration from Aliens
in terms of the marines and dropship.

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorph01/16/2012Someone on here claimed that his brother worked on the set...his brother mentioned that we should expect something like "The Thing"....(except in space)...he was also asked weather their will be any Xeno's and he said something like "kind of yes".
That was a while back and u cannot take any rumors to seriously....but I do hope it was more than just a rumor... It ties in well with the crew members transforming or metamorphosing into something else....so their might be plenty of new beasties running amok....in which case i actually don't mind seeing plenty of animatronics combined with Cgi....as long as their is plenty of variety.
I am already confident that the story will be nice and diabolically disturbing enough... and acting will be up to scratch...the cast is very promising!.

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I suppose it is an inevitability that people are gonna compare Prometheus to Dead Space and Halo....as long as they know witch came first....sadly it seems they don't!
It does not simply end with the basic look and feel of the trailer....some are also trying to point out that the score was stolen from Inception and Transformers...truth is that the score found it's roots in the original Alien trailer....very upsetting... this juvenile ignorance!

craigamore
MemberOvomorph01/16/2012Ahhhh yes...juvenile ignorance. Where would the human race be with out it?.....literally and figuratively.
