Thanks

I wonder if they will make the same mistake as they did with Prometheus when they cut many scenes that would have made the movie better (making more sense)? Maybe this depends on how much they have learned from their mistakes with Prometheus.

In other words, no director's cut at least until most of us buy the first wave of movies.

thanks for the share colonialsoldier! I want that steelbook pack w/ Creatures of Alien Covenant!!!

Is there any more news on the Limited Edition Vinyl Soundtrack? The only places I could find it looked dodgy...

A number of scenes was shot but not shown, some due to having shot alternative re-shoots, others were simply just committed due to pacing and limited run time at Box Office which one of the sacrifices in this manner was the Daniels and Jacob New York Apartment Scene.

Apparently there was 3 Alternative Endings...

Also a number of scenes where more Gory and Graphic and also prolonged Nudity (extended Shower Scene) that would not have made it into the Certification they was aiming for and so would have required a Cert 18

I will also assume we have a shot that explains what happened to the 2nd Neomorph... i feel those who have read the Novel and compared what is missing in the Movie could well have some idea of what kinds of scenes are cut

I will also assume some scenes will have extended versions, like the Weyland and David Scene i am willing to bet there was a longer version.

Is it just me or does that scene get more screen time than the entire rushed Protomorph sequence on the Covenant...

It's a great scene don't get me wrong, but it kind of highlights what went wrong with AC's pacing. They had these nice drawn-out dramatic and intense scenes like that.... then a tacked on xeno battle at the end. Bam! Ending.

Sort of like Riddlers saying "There's your damn Aliens!"

I actually remember watching AC at cinema's after seeing some of the reviews and thinking I don't get the hate, this has a nice climatic build-up... this film is great.....ohh, wait there it is. Wtf just happened.

Have you ever seen the film The Colony? Another film that got ripped a new one. Nice tense atmospheric build-up, great cast, interesting premise. Then just over an hour into it, it was like the Producers walked on set and said "Righto you've got to 15 minutes to wrap it up". So they chucked in a sudden cannibal/zombie battle. End.

Indeed good point... i think the Problem as i have said a number of times with AC was what it was trying to cover.

They felt that Prometheus was not interesting to the majority of fans, and that more people would want to see a movie where the Xenomorph is Reintroduced rather than Dr Shaw and David finding these Tall (but not Giant) Bald Humanoids to ask why they do what they do and did.

So looking at the Problems with Prometheus they had to try and by-pass this part and bring us to a Aftermath of David and Shaws mission at the end of Prometheus, they could not just simply have the Covenant ship turn up out of the Blue and find David without explaining some Prometheus connections because this would confuse people who had never seen Prometheus.   So they had to cover this to some degree. Disappointingly for Prometheus Fans... and still too much for those who disliked Prometheus.

RS felt David was the interesting Character from Prometheus and that a whole Story Arc around his Character Development and how he had evolved emotionally was something to be explored, which is why the Prologue Scene was added.

Then they had to bring in the Xenomorph, do some kind of Plot to show how they came to be and also showcase the Eggs, Face Huger and Big Chap and try and introduce some of that ALIEN Vibe... which they attempted.

Once they those Plots taken care of they had to do something a bit Fresh and so gave us the Neomorphs, and Experiments.

Then another Problem with Prometheus was Characters, fans could just not engage in them very well not like how they did with ALIEN or ALIENS and so they introduced a kind of Slow Build up like Alien had, they also threw in the Last Supper Prologue to help more.. but not every one would have seen that.

The Slow Build Up to set the Pace and introduce us to Character we may connect more with, and something Original and Fresh in the Neomorphs meant these had taken up a lot of Screen Time....

With having to loosely cover the Engineers and Prometheus themes a little and then introduce TWO Xenomorphs and fit it all within a 2 hour or so movie, meant that Sadly the Prometheus parts had to be brushed under the carpet and not covered much, they indeed covered DAVID and his Emotional State and Reasons for it....  and then when it came to the XENOMORPH they simply had to Speed Up the Gestation.

This no doubt left FOX with about a  2hr 15 Min Runtime.... which they wanted to cut down to make it more 2 hour Friendly and so Death Scenes had been shortened, the Prologue and maybe also some Dialog between Colonist and David in his Hide out.. may had to be trimmed, maybe the Prologue trimmed a bit.... Totally cutting some other Scenes like Daniels and Jacob Flash Back/Dream and maybe a few short scenes on the Covenant between the crew maybe before they landed on Paradise and After.

And the Ultimate Sacrifice was a rushed and short version of the Xenomorph on the Covenant...

The movie really needed a 2hr 45 Min and extra $50M Budget and Production time to really had gave us a more Polished Flick.

@Big Dave - I suppose Sir Ridley saw the Flute scene as deserving of more time for character development for Walter & David, than anything relating to Shaw & the Engineers.  Do we assume that is because of what Sir Ridley has planned for Walter & David in the next installment?

 Big Dave:

I think that they should have had something like the last supper in the movie or at least something where we get to know the characters better, why they were there, some more about them as persons, things like that. At least I would have appreciated to see something that made me connect with the characters a bit more.

David was and still is interesting but he became too much of the center in AC. They should have handled the Xeno connection a bit better and they should have made it clearer that David wasn’t the one that created it first, just let him explain that with some dialogue.

The Neomorph was interesting. It was an interesting attempt at something new and I think that it succeeded in that part. Maybe the time that they dedicated to introduce the characters took too long and it became sort of slow but I understand the difficulty that they had with that. Alien 1-3 made this a lot better.

AC should have been a bit longer to have things there that we needed to know to connect with the characters in a better way (this is really important to me) and to have things making more sense.

from the list there isn't a single thing that would make me want to buy the blu ray simply for deleted scenes.

@Cerulean Blue

I think RS does see DAVID and AI as being Key Parts of the Franchise and it appears the Prequels will revolve around David.

@Thoughts_Dreams

I think while the Last Supper Prologue and even the Crossing would have added to understanding Characters more, a lot of stuff has to be cut down and out because of limitations to Run-time at the BOX Office...  FOX would feel only Die-Hard Alien Franchise and Prometheus Fans would sit through 3 hours of a Movie and all such Die Hard Fans $$$$ would not  bring them enough money in.  So sadly movies had to be cut and catered for trying to bring in the more casual fan and general public... Hence the Over-the-Top Marketing.  Which mislead many to think it would be a more ALIEN movie but then most of the Scenes that was never given away in the Trailers were all about David. These prequels are a DAVID Trilogy.

And so as far as the Xenomorph goes, its ambiguous to if he did or did not create it or re-created/improved it.  But it seems the route they are going now is that DAVID created the Xenomorph, at least the ones that are on the Derelict in Alien.

But its open at the moment, so if FOX/RS feel this route will disappoint fans they can change things for the next movie, because Alien Covenant came about due to Fan Reaction to Prometheus and how excited fans was for Blomkamps Alien 5

Im interested if the deleted scenes contain some background what David learned about the Engineers while the Juggernaut was approaching Planet 4.

This would explain the motives why he bombarded the giant city and dont helped Dr.Shaw to get her answers about human origins/etc.

gralen, from what iv heard none of the deleted scenes approach that. their scenes such as walter and daniels talking about her husbands death and extended conversations between the crew. theres an extended scene where david takes cudrup down into the egg chamber but that's all that interests me

Big Dave: The last supper and the Crossing were very good scenes. I wish that they would have included these in the movie, they should have had more material like that. AC should have had more scenes where we get to know more about the characters how they are like persons. More pieces like that would probably have made the movie a lot better. Let the audience know more about the characters, why they are there, how they are like persons and so on. This is needed for me at least to get more sympathy for them once the shit hits so to speak.

Run-time, I think that is one of the reasons why AC wasn’t as good as it could have been.

I can easily sit down for two and a half hours and watch a movie if it is good enough but then there must be some sort of action although not non-stop. Having many scenes in a two and a half hour movie like the one between David and Walter, that would make me tired (because it was too slow) even though the idea of the scene was interesting.

I am shaking my head at the marketing compared to how they movie turned out to be. The way they did it was just bad.

“These prequels are a DAVID Trilogy.”

This far maybe, but that should change, I hope so. I don’t want it to be all about crazy androids running things, leave that to Blade Runner 2. Unfortunately, I think that Scott could be one of those that we can blame for that. I don’t want David to be the creator of the Xeno in the Derelict that is something that is a shitty idea if you ask me. Maybe if the next movie is very good then I might be able to forgive them for that but then it got to be better than Covenant even though it was a step in the right direction. Honestly, I would like to tell Scott what I think about that obviously shitty idea, it is just dumb. There are many interesting themes and things (things that happen, characters, and so on) in the Alien movies but I don’t like that one at all.

“But its open at the moment, so if FOX/RS feel this route will disappoint fans they can change things for the next movie. . . “

I really hope that they do, because having David as a creator of the Xeno would just be bad and I guess that I am not the only one that has this opinion.

Alien Covenant was without a doubt a step in the right direction. Hopefully they will continue this path of improvement for the next movie.
