Disney will soon be acquiring a large number of 21st Century Fox's films assets - for a whopping $52.4 billion. This will include the iconic Alien and Predator franchises. Now, although initial reactions to this merger had fans questioning the fate of Alien and the likelihood of Disney continuing to make Alien films, recent comments by Disney CEO Bob Iger have calmed our uncertainties.
According to Discussing Film (via BD), during a Disney earnings call today, Iger confirmed Disney does plan to continue producing a number of R-rated Fox film properties and leverage some of those properties with their upcoming streaming service Disney+. This will undoubtedly include Alien and the Predator film franchises:
Bob Iger has said that they plan on keeping Deadpool an R-Rated brand and plan to further include R-Rated film brands in their future product portfolio
So it seems the future of Alien is brighter than we initially thought. With Disney still committed to producing R-rated Fox properties, our faith in this merger has been restored.
Will Ridley Scott get to continue his Alien prequel saga? Or will Disney attempt to reboot the franchise entirely under their new umbrella? What do you want Disney to do with the property? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
