MemberNeomorphJun-09-2017 1:07 PMSo I finally watched Alien Covenant in the movie theater.
Daniels was alright but her transition from a broken widow to a warrior like Ripley went too fast. I still think that she had an interesting development as a character but the pace was a bit rushed. She was alright but she could have been much better developed. Ripley was better. Shaw was worse so she is between those two. Hopefully they will make her better as a character if they will make a sequel to this movie.
Tenesse (MacBride) was interesting but he could have been better developed as a character and his interchanges with Daniels was nice to see.
Shaw looked better as a corpse and was better that way compared to when she was alive. We didn’t need to endure her stupidity this way.
I really appreciated the difference between David and Walter. The flute scene lasted a bit too long but for some reason it worked as a way to explain their differences. Walter was a sympathetic android, David was a dick although his work-shop was interesting.
The captain (Oram) was alright. He felt a bit insecure as a person while still trying to keep this together. His character was alright even though he could have been smarter when facing David. Even though he was religious he didn’t make a huge deal of it.
The spores was an interesting thing but I am not sure why not more were infected if they were all in it without protection. OK so they were colonists but shouldn’t they have used some caution? The computer at the ship said it was safe but I don’t know. Still this was not at the “removing your helmets even though you are scientists and should know better”-level but anyways.
The Neomorph was cool, it was small, fast, and a deadly fucker. I was more impressed with it than the Xeno, probably because it was new. As far as the origin goes I am not sure if David created it or re-created it so it was cool. AC was kind of vague about the origin and someone else could have created it at another moment.
They guy puking blood was gross. I wasn’t terrified but it was more like “yew, that’s nasty”.
When Daniels hang outside the ship, that was a tense scene. I was like “ooh shit!”.
My friend told me that he would buy it when it will be released on DVD.
The ending wasn’t very scary or surprising but I can imagine how it was for Daniels so when I thought about it from that perspective then that was scary.
This wasn’t the worse movie among the alien connected movies but it was far from being the best. After viewing AC once my list goes like this:
- Alien 3 (1992)
- Alien (1979)
- Aliens (1986)
- Alien Covenant (2017)
- Prometheus (2012)
- Alien Resurrection (1997)
- AVP (2004)
AC gets a 3 out of 5, it was an improvement compared to Prometheus. I probably won’t bother to watch AVPR.

MemberFacehuggerJun-09-2017 2:56 PMTdby - are your serious with that Predator photo/meme? He couldn't kill Dutch! Not Arnold! Arnold is an actor and former "Governator" of California.
CAN'T NOT CANT!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you even know about the AVP history? Have you read the comics?
Thoughts_Dreams - AVP films are not canon anymore - the dates are off and are Earth based: out of synch from the core films.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2017 3:05 PMI like the interesting take on Alien Rankings- i def feel Alien 3 is underrated -i love the story and characters-but (for me) i cant see it passing Aliens and def not the original. thats why this forum is a good thing i like hearing other opinions
I saw AC and i actually like PRometheus a tad better, but its possible i couldve been over spoiled and i knew the movie before it happened- i think the trailers did that. If i didnt know what was going to happen to the backburster guy man that scene wouldve scared the crap out of me but i already knew... Liked AC a lot though- i just love the alien movies in general- so good. Maybe they should go for the mystery marketing rather than reveals. Like the original independence day first trailer with only the explosions- loved that marketing!!

MemberDeaconJun-09-2017 4:19 PMNice Fair Review... i have a few bones to pick... but first.
"I am not sure why not more were infected if they were all in it without protection"
This is a good point, you would have thought more would be infected in close proximity... The only explanation i can give is the Spore are just a form of Xeno-Strain Egg, so basically the Spore when disturbed is only to release something that infects one Host... The Novel i think clears it up by showing that the Spore releases a Single Spore.... The movie we see a number of them... but i assume these all fuse together and then seek out a Single Host.
Indeed if the Spore could infect multiple people it would be a very deadly Weapon... the Neomorph to me is thus more deadly than the Xenomorph... a lot would depend on intelligence and how they can procreate though.
I think everyone has their own opinions on Characters, and thats up to them... i do think Shaw could have been a good character she can Act Rings around Miss Weaver (thats not hard much), i know Dr Shaws Character was irritating for many but they could have had a event change how she would evolve as a Character... the Alternative End Scene "because your a F-ing Robot" shows what could have been done, and if she had found out some Horrific Truths that put her whole Believes into Doubt, well proves Her Faith is Wrong.. and so without that its a Question of how broken she could become and she could have made a drastic Change to the Bad-Ass Give No Feck... Female Heroine more better than Daniels did, because Daniels lost her Partner, she saw crew members killed but she had not gave birth to a Alien Baby and also had not found her Faith to be False...
Daniels change happened a bit quick, but i guess she was more a hard-line female Character as far as Mental State more in the Mold of Lambert.... while Ripley was more in the Mold of a Vickers/Daniels Mix... before she became the Heroine she was known for...
Which took 1.5 movies to reach... with Daniels it was a bit rushed.... Sadly i think Daniels will be killed off in the next movie... i just hope its not a throw away like Dr Shaw.. and that we see her in the movie even if its not too long..
To have her not in it, and just explained away that David used her for the First Xenomorph on the ship would be lame... but Logically TWO Face Huggers and TWO AC Survivors... Daniels and Tennessee are a thorn to Davids Plans.

MemberFacehuggerJun-09-2017 4:46 PM@OP, do you like the theatrical cut of Alien3 or the Assembly cut? The assembly cut makes it a whole better movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2017 6:21 PMI would say Alien Covenant is easily my third favorite movie, the first two being Alien and Logan.

MemberFacehuggerJun-09-2017 8:46 PMOh my gosh, thoughtsdreams that bit about Shaw is so-so damn funny! I kinda liked her but I see how you might take that stance. Will have to finish your review but I just have to savor that giggle, thanks

MemberNeomorphJun-10-2017 12:25 PMcolonialsolder: The assembly cut is better, it fleshes out the characters more.
Capt Togo: You're welcome, LOL! I usually say what is on my mind and if I think that something sucks then I let people know that.
