Is this David 8 on the Covenant (pretending to be Walter)?

If Walter is more advanced than David 8, then why is the android in the title image using a flashlight and looking around?

The androids can map an entire planet ("And a new global location mapping algorithm") and go back to any pre-programmed point, in the dark. 

Why would the android in the image above use a flashlight if it was Walter?

The android on the Covenant in the title image has more of a gaunt face like David 8 opposed to Walter with a more full face.

I could be wrong but this seems like it's part of the scene where Daniels is also in the same room and they are talking about something. If you watch the original teaser the scene is linked together but it may just be editing. Also, Walter is shown to wear the same hoodie in The Last Supper.

You are correct peterweyland. I believe David 8 could have made his way on to the Covenant ship after compromising Walter on the surface of Paradise. And my theory is that the title image shows David 8 impersonating Walter on the Covenant ship.

Walter would not need a flashlight to look around because he would have the entire ship memorized.

This sequence may show David 8 mapping the Covenant ship because he has not been there before.

yes that does make sense however it did sound like Walter has a different accent to David in the various prologues and virals we have seen. At least it did to me. Walter sounded more of an American accent. If this is true David will have to put on Walter's accent if any of the crew speak to him while he's on board the covenant.

Maybe hunting a Xeno with the flashlight?

FasstasticFassy!, David 8 knew all known languages so an accent most likely would not be a problem.

Cerulean Blue, I wrote this topic before the below image came out.

If Walter (left) is overcome with whatever David 8 (right) is giving him, then David 8 may have been able to make it back onto the Covenant ship. So, that could be David 8 with the flashlight under that scenario but I really am not sure at all.

Ha ha...  we need to remember Fassbender has aged a bit and thats why David in Prometheus and Walter look a bit different.

As far as the OT...

This is Walter prior to them setting down to Planet 4.

But as far as David pretending to be Walter in the End...

Maybe i think there is definitely a Twist regarding David and Walter.  And Likely.

1) David, replaces Walter and his clothes.

2) David some how transfers his Soul so to speak into Walters Body.

3) Walter is the one who becomes Evil... and not David

So we either have a Evil Walter who is David in disguise, or with Davids Mind.... or simply a Evil Walter.

Something else that might have given his identity away too, in that 10 minute video with the throat burster, when it comes out of that guys mouth, he shows no reaction at all.

But, in that clip of the xenomorph attacking the camera, he jumps/seems shocked, so I think he does manage to infiltrate the crew.

Now the David/Walter in the Egg Cave is not wearing this, why would David wear the same outfit that he wore during the journey on the Juggernaught all this time?

If he had other outfits...

So he had either at the point in the Cave with Eggs Scene, had got rid of Walter and stole his clothes, or Walter Pretended to be David so that David can take blame for his actions?

Or David just changes into new clothes that he indeed has.

We also have to consider the other clip where we see Walter Running with Daniels and he looks like he has Panic and Fear on his Face...

Walter apparently cant show emotions..

Also Walter Models can Regenerate Tissue....  so the scene with bandages on his face, could again hint at David

AdamPD, we saw Walter step forward when someone was choking on the Covenant and reciting "I've got your back" and then he appears to stand dormant while the crew is chewed up. Seems out of character for Walter.

But yea, the reaction to the alien attacking the camera, reminded me of David's reaction to sniffing the holographic goop on the door console in Prometheus, like he was taken a back/shocked.

Which is why I think the android watching the tv monitors is David, rather than Walter.

The second lander in which we see the xenomorph hitting it's head on the window probably docks with the covenant, thinking they're safe, but they realise it's still on board, a bit like the ship which carried the queen to that military ship in Aliens.

I think the end of Covenant is going to be about David and the two characters hunting the alien aboard the covenant itself, but I wonder if David is trying to get them killed by closing doors to herd the alien their way.

David will then "steal" the covenant and it's sleeping colonists for experimentation I'm betting.

And somehow that will tie in to the eggs on LV426. (Perhaps he sends out the distress call we hear in both Covenant and Alien, to lure people in, he knows the engineers language, after all)

It is going to matter to Tennessee and Daniels big time AdamPD which one of the androids is on the Covenant with them. It appears during this sequence that "Walter" is controlling access in coordination with Tennessee and Daniels.

Things could get real tough if it is David 8 in the image above on the Covenant "helping" Tennessee and Daniels.
