MemberFacehuggerNov-15-2013 12:34 PMGiven that Ridley was not able to go where he wanted in what he put on screen, I have come to the conclusion that Prometheus ‘developed’ into a stand alone movie, but at what point it became that, who knows?
I think when Ridley was shooting the movie that maybe he could give it something of a direction that he may have originally intended. Unfortunately, after final editing decisions were mad and we have what we have.
It is only through lots of debating, and looking through all the threads generated I have come to the conclusion, What if Ridley during his final editing decided that it would be better to deliver a film that tries to get away as far as possible from what was first conceived. That way it would be possible to leave the door open on being able to make a movie that goes back to what the original idea was.
There is also the option of treating Prometheus as an off shoot back story for something that might only be referred to a short time in a new movie. The central characters such as Shaw and David might then become very small cogs in a big machine.
I suppose in a way I am saying that it is possible to tear everything up and go back to the drawing board and look at producing something that resembles the original drafts .
I’m not saying this will happen, but the door IS open for it to happen.
Could a new movie place Prometheus as a minor side show?

Here we go, and when i tried work out the Space Jockey i calculated 13ft ish but the Chair was 16ft and production did claim prop was 15ft, hence the drafts for Prometheus had 15ft tall beings.
This is where Scale comes into question as if you look above the taller Engineer looks as big as the Space Jockey.... you could even say compared to David he now looks what 25ft+
But nope he is actually 15ft if David in that image is 6ft
The Smaller Engineer is the supposed size he was in Prometheus.
Here is another illusion ...

Worlds Tallest Man at 8ft1\" compared to Smallest at 2ft5\" yes the Tallest is only 3.3X difference it looks a lot more, now 3.3X Davids 6ft would be a being of 20ft high.

MemberNeomorphNov-17-2013 6:28 PMI think you may have a point there BigDave. In the image of the Space Jockey (the one being sculpted) the length of his arm looks well over 6ft, probably approx. 6ft 5 when comparing it to the bloke working on him. Now, a persons arm span is the same has the length of the person, so that would make him approx. 13-14ft tall. But I might be completely wrong.
The poster was good though!

Some very compelling reasons and issues raised.
One of the reasons I like the Alien franchise is that every movie does not rely on too much prior knowledge. In fact every movie can stand on its own merits. Though some more than others.
If Paradise was released right now, would an audience need to have prior knowledge of Prometheus ? One thing is for sure, it is not called Prometheus 2. Maybe that’s because a’2’ looks too much like a ‘?’ and there’s certainly been too many of them.

MemberDeaconNov-18-2013 9:04 AMWell to be honest having these Engineers as 15ft or even 13ft would maybe not looked quite right, same would be if we had the Space Jockey being 13-15ft and a Elephantine creature...
When you look at that taller Engineer in my image i think its too big to portray well on screen..
So scale him down to 9-10ft would have been ideal, if they used special effects like Lord of the Rings and Hobit so out Engineers appeared the same size as the smaller Engineer in that image on the left next to David.
Then i think most would have been more satisfied with the illusion.
But most people would work out there was a vast difference in size of our Engineers and the Space Jockey..... but if they appeared the size of the smaller one i re sized to 9ft then i recon it would have been job done.

MemberOvomorphNov-18-2013 10:47 AMYes, its too big to portray well on screen, and on the other hand; if they use effects like in Lord of the Rings, the Engineers can be played by good actors, and not necessarily by the interpreter of the monsters. Do not get me wrong, I think the Engineer from Prometheus looks great, but I just say it's not necessary to choose a big guy for the role.

MemberDeaconNov-18-2013 11:42 AMThis was one of my major disappointments with this movie..
That was the Engineers when interacting with the Human Crew, and if indeed similar special effects was used to make our Engineers look the size of the smallest one in my image i did i.e 9ft then i think i would have been vastly more satisfied and this guy could then be passed off as 10ft easy.
Another one was Bobs Billy Bob teeth lol... i recon they should have gave Ian Whyte a set of better teeth lol...
As the Sacrificial Engineer to me looked better as far as portraying these Godlike beings..
Then again maybe Bobs teeth and hands could have been put down to the Engineers Genome is becoming corrupt and not as perfect as the Sacrificial Engineers and maybe this is why they needed to seed Earth.
