MemberOvomorphAug-04-2012 4:11 AMWoah, I'd TOTALLY FORGOTTEN the original title of that 1992 Ridley Scott film:
1492: Conquest of Paradise.

MemberOvomorphAug-04-2012 7:41 AMI feel that the R rating for PROMETHEUS is half-hearted. It wears its R-rating badge with honor but shy away from truly horrific scenes. At the same time, the violent scenes are not truly violent in a -- Visceral is the right word you use there. PROMETHEUS doesn't stay with me like the way ALIEN did in 1979.
With a few gore shots removed (like the unnecessarily violent Fifield attack scene), PROMETHEUS coulda gotten PG13 rating and improve commercial potential. The reduction of gore in this scene alone would garner the movie a PG13 rating and will not reduce the quality of the movie overall, I think. And as far as the Shaw's gory operation scene, Fox should be familiar with their own medical drama which regularly feature gory, realistic operation scenes called HOUSE MD which stars Hugh Laurie. As far as other body horror, have these people seen CBS series CSI which regularly contain close-ups of bodies decapitated, torn to pieces, dissolved in chemicals, burnt victims, 3 times every week for the last 10 years!!!! All these shows are on TV !!!!! There is something wrong with the people behind this movie, seriously!

MemberOvomorphAug-04-2012 2:30 PMCall me cynical or even de-sensitised, but I didn't find the Caesarian
that squeamish. It's a beautiful film and I'm it's no 1 fan all the same, but
to juxtapose all that visual beauty with some really skin-crawling (but well within context and not just for the sake of it) alien horror, would've been genius. I'm not a Twitterer by any stretch, but I read about some of the early tweets which were saying "the aliens really butcher the humans" and this in a perverse way got me really stoked. But it seems they were erroneous.
Unless cut footage of unimaginable carnage exists somewhere in the Prometheus vaults.

I didn't mean to say the MEdPod scene is weak. It is not. It is well directed and well performed by Noomi. I really salute her for popping her veins and slamming her head against the table. In this scene, she seems to embody Promethean suffering perfectly.
What I meant is that with all the scenes presented in this movie, it is a borderline PG13. Reduce the gore in the Fifield attack scene which probably amounts to a few second of shots here and there, the movie will be PG13 with the MedPod scene in tact. I mentioned how gory TV shows like HOUSE & CSI are allowed to be shown on network TV. So why R? If there are violent scenes cut out (Alien carnage like you mentioned), why not cut a few more seconds of gore to fulfill a PG13 requirement? Box office numbers will improve, more profit for Fox, more sequels will be approved, and we fans can be happy for another 3 to 4 years in this forum, lol!! Before our girlfriends and wives call us to grow up, lol!!

MemberOvomorphAug-05-2012 1:18 AMno. Any movie related to Alien has to be rated r. If its pg-13 it ruins the integrity of it.
Imagine Tarantino announcing his next movie to be pg-13. Fans would go insane.

MemberOvomorphAug-05-2012 2:01 PMZeta,
for me, it's not even THAT (the (laughable) Caesarian) that did it, it was the flippant way the AFTER OP action was dealt with ... Shaw running and jumping around and FIGHTING OFF AN ENGINEER PILOT minutes after being FILLETTED LIKE A FISH. There was no PENALTY for her hilarious act, I mean having to manually reprogramme the machine to do the op. Ludicrous moment, totally unneccessary in terms of the Prometheus story.
I demand that an 18-cert or R-rated narrative for Paradise MAKE SENSE, and REALLY F***ING HURT.
Proper grue, with (painful (and sexual)) consequences. Do it, do it now!

The filmm
Aker is limited by the plot requirement. She did inject herself multiple times to reduce pain anad probably to speed up healing etc. how do you suppose Ridley & Damon handled this? By having the whole crew spend some quality time together sing kumbaya until Shaw heals up before going to seek out the Engineer? How would you handle it? I wish the Prometheus craft is a drop ship, then Shaw could heal up in the orbit while all hell breaks loose on the planet then Shaw will not have a dramatic plea to Janel to bring down the Juggernaut. The real weakness In the script is how quickly Janek decides to commit suicide. This does maintain a running theme of sacrifice but the captain has zero personal emotional investment I the movie unlike Shaw who lost her faith - almost and see her lover get torched to death etc. There must be some pretty dramatic scenes involving the pilot that get cut out. Or maybe not. The suicide run is a last addition to up the drama . They have no idea to end the first part because there is more than 3 hours of story in there. Fox wants more showing and unless it is James Cameron production any science fiction mobie is considered a risk commercially. The APES reboot only got $95million financing. Ridley got more out of respect

MemberOvomorphAug-06-2012 8:42 PM I agree with the OP, but also for Ridley Scott to return to that 'documentary-like' sense of filming.

MemberOvomorphAug-06-2012 8:45 PM I genuinely felt unnerved when the Prometheus crew were approaching the sleeping God Engineer, I mean, the realism of the image added to it, as well, as the gall to approach this kind of being with no idea how it will respond when awakened.
Honestly, I thought it would be similar to waiting by the coffin side of Count Dracula right at the hour of midnight.
