AdminEngineerMay-31-2012 10:33 PMFor those who have seen Prometheus please do NOT post spoilers in this thread. This is a spoiler free topic and should remain so. Spoilers posted will be deleted. This is to offer my personal reaction and some insight to eager fans who have yet to see Prometheus in their own country.
Now that that's out of the way, on to my thoughts...
Please NOTE: This is NOT our official review, but a mere fraction of my reaction to the film. The official, several page Prometheus-Movie.com Prometheus Review will go LIVE on this site on June 7th, at 4pm EST.
----------------------------------------------------------------
So, I just got back to my hotel room in downtown Toronto, Ontario after seeing an advance screening of PROMETHEUS in the largest theatre I have ever been in personally with incredible surround sound, comfy seats and a quiet, attentive audience. What more can you ask for?
I'm sure you all are wondering - was it good?! For starters, you should slap yourself for even asking the question. This is Ridley Scott people - the man who started it all back in 1979 and once again he has done what he does best. Scare the sh*t out of you and make you THINK!
Prometheus is MIND BLOWING - a truly incredible experience. One filled with suspense, emotion and incredible philosophy. I will go into MUCH more depth (about 5 pages of depth to be exact) come June 7th in my official review, but for now I'll give you my quick rating: 5/5 stars. Dare I say it, it comes out neck and neck with ALIEN. Prometheus is different. But in so much of a good way. You will notice immediate ties to Alien very, VERY early on in the film and all throughout. I suggest watching ALIEN prior to seeing Prometheus to "freshen up".
For me, watching Prometheus was everything I had ever hoped for and more. It's been 3 years that I have been tracking news on the film and building this site for it to finally come to a conclusion as monumental as this was the best feeling I could ever experience without a doubt.
The acting - superb. The music, though not like ALIEN, worked perfectly with the plot. No complaints what so ever.
Visually - My God.. I have yet to see a film which compares to Prometheus. In other reviews we've already heard people say the visuals were incredible, but you truly have to experience it for yourself to fully appreciate just how stunning this film really is.
Creatures - Magnificent. Ridley Scott has done it again and the concepts presented in this film were immense and spectacular! The number of twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I have to say, reading everyone's posts here over the past 3 years - seeing what you all thought of the plot and how things would turn out. We were wrong....We were so wrong. ; ) Hahaha Sorry - had to throw that in there.
But seriously - until you see Prometheus, you won't know the full story. Although our speculations for some elements were almost on the money, even I was surprised at so many of the outcomes.
Ultimately folks, Prometheus is a wild ride and one that should be enjoyed many times to fully capture it all. The film leaves us with SO many questions left to discuss and speculate over until Prometheus 2 arrives. The plot is fantastic and deserves much respect. It was a thrill of a lifetime for me - a moment which I will never forget.
I want to personally thank 20th Century Fox Studios for giving me the opportunity to see this film in advance - what a ride!
To everyone reading, you will NOT want to miss my official, full review on June 7th at 4pm EST. I've got nearly a WEEK to perfect this review and add as much detail as humanly possible. Expect a MASSIVE package of information and detailed analysis. I may bring up some things you didn't notice in the film! I was literally on the edge of my seat soaking up every tiny detail which will all become present in my review. I look forward to discussing Prometheus with you on here for months, maybe even years to come! It has been a great journey and fantastic experience and I can't wait until we all have seen the film and can begin dissection once again while we wait for Prometheus 2!
Thanks for reading - check back on June 7th for our official Prometheus-Movie.com Movie Review for Prometheus. 'Till then, I'll see you all in the forums to discuss it all!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 9:28 AMWith someone having such a positive review as this, why so many negative experiences on this site? Some said very disappointed. Others called it trash.
BugHunter, what did you see that they didn't???
Again, I've never seen a bad RS film and certainly don't expect one in Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 9:33 AM@Chris/BH: Thank you so much for your fantastic pre-review, this is precisely what I wanted to hear from the very person I wanted to hear it from! I went to the premiere/'blue carpet' event @ the EMPIRE in London yesterday and I'm glad I did for many reasons.
First, I got the most 'personal' up-and-close experience with the RT-01 on display in front of the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden, which made my heart race for over an hour! Then I went back to Leicester Square to see Fassbender, Theron, Rapace, GIGER, and many others pretty up close and finally managed to meet up with our lovely forum member NoxWord, whom I spent the rest of the day with until he went to see the midnight showing of Prometheus...
...I woke up with a little hangover and I sincerely hope that he got to see the movie the way he intended to see it... xP
Now, taking yesterday's events and your pre-review into account has furthermore increased my passion, anticipation and excitement by a huge amount and I simply cannot wait until I will finally see it myself. I'm SO glad that there are unanswered new and old questions (from Alien), as that's what I always wanted and expected. Since this forum (just as well as others) has turned into a bit of a minefield lately, I've been avoiding reviews and speculations as well, be it negative or positive (according to subject lines).
Once again, thanks Chris for sharing your experience without spoiling anything at all, I wish more people would have acted accordingly and more mature around here. I'm looking forward to read your full review after I've seen Prometheus myself.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:45 PMthe more I hear of this film the more it sounds like another representation of Alien. Humans go off to a strange planet to investigate aliens, end up wishing they hadn't. It sounds like Ridley has just remade alien with up to date special FX.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:56 PMThank you, Chris, for the positive info. The negativity on this site (particularly in the spoiler and review boards) was getting to me a little.
As a more casual fan of Alien, I don't NEED this movie to tie into anything - or give me answers. I just want a good story and eye candy :)

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:10 PMBugHunter I'm glad you liked the film.
I trust most admins opinions on movies they review ever since the first AVP.
I remember going to the AVP site ( i don't remember the name of the site though) and speculating, getting excited just like this film, and when the admin of the AVP site saw the movie he wrote a horribly down review saying how he hated the film and was let down. Everything fell apart after that so, I trust if BugHunter didn't like it he'd set the film aflame.
I wonder how U.S. audiences will like this, any thoughts mr BugHunter?
Chris
AdminEngineerJun-01-2012 5:19 PMYour right SaintsSinphony, if I hadn't liked it, I would have given you my honest opinion regardless. But honestly, there wasn't once scene I didn't like.. well maybe one. One of the character's death could have been better - but doesn't affect my positive outlook on the film what so ever.
That AVP site sounds like AvPGalaxy - the admin over there hated AvP. If I recall correctly he shut the site down for a while cause he hated it so much. But kudos for being honest in their review.
As for US audience? I think a lot of them will really enjoy it! I mean, you need to go into the film with an open mind. If you expect a direct prequel to Alien you will be disappointed. It's so much more than that and should be appreciated as such.
All I can say is DON'T get sucked into the negative reviews. As I stated earlier, most of those reviews criticize that the film isn't a direct prequel to Alien, that it leaves us with more questions than answers and that it doesn't end the way they expected it to.
All I can say to that is, GOOD! Cause if it ended with how we expected everyone would be saying "Damn, I knew it. No more surprises - such a let down". Not to mention, as I've stated repeatedly already (and will continue to do so) I absolutely LOVE how it leaves us with more questions than answers. You know what that means people? SEQUELS!
I hear what everyone is saying and ultimately if you go in with an open mind with a little knowledge of the mythology behind ALIEN then this film will really hit home for a lot of us and breathe some much needed life back into probably THE best sci fi franchise ever conceived. So on that note - from my experience I can only say I expect US audiences will love Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:53 PMThanks BH for your candid sanity...granted, I'm NOT assuming it's amazing, because I'm not going to be that fan who so desperately wants it to fulfill their dreams that they won't allow themselves to tell the truth or be open minded....I am going in hoping and praying, yet comfortably accepting Prometheus for WHAT IT IS rather than WHAT I WANT IT TO BE...........

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 6:22 PMThank You Sir Ridley, I saw the film this afternoon. All I can say is WOW. I just don't get some of the opinions on various sites. To me personally, the film delivered and much more. Just need a sequel now to answer more questions.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 9:13 PMI'd like to reiterate BugHunter's point that you HAVE to go into this movie with an "open mind". As a moderator on this site, having to sift through threads, moving them, tagging them, altering spoiler titles, etc., I am seeing that a lot of people went into this "falsely thinking" that they truly understood the 1979 movie, Alien.
Alien is a masterpiece and like an onion contains several layers. Prometheus, too, is like an onion in that respect. Ridley Scott made a movie for those that understood ALL levels of his 1979 Alien "onion". If you came out of the movie "crying", it was because you never understood the 33 year "onion" to begin with.
Wait a couple weeks, help us peel the "onion" together and maybe you'll understand and appreciate this masterpiece that has so easily, through no fault of your own, gone over your head.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 11:23 AMHi BugHunter!
I'm a new member but have been lurking here for a long time. After reading your posts, I trust your opinion on this film!
I have complete confidence in Ridley Scott. His genre films have never let me down.
Your review was informative and insightful without spoiling anything. Thanks for that. I look forward to seeing Prometheus in IMAX 3D on Friday. Happens to be my birthday and I can't think of a better "gift" than the first Ridley Scott science fiction film in decades!
You have an awesome website here!!

MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 11:27 PMTwo questions.
The mural of the xenomorph that Holloway views before declaring, "This place is a tomb."
In front of that was something. What is that, an egg, a crystal?
And, who had painted the caves in the start of the movie, if our "prometheus" had consume the black glue to die and create humanity?

Just saw Prometheus. Wasn't blown away by the storyline except for the possibilities that it creates. Very similar to 2001:A space odyssey in that regard. I can envision a follow-up with just the android and Dr. Shaw traveling the universe in search of the engineers. One (uh 2) point of confusion: Android David dropped the DNA goo in Holloway's drink. Why? All indication is that he is programmed & guided by the old man, not to experiment on the crew. This adds to him being ominous, but why? Is he experiencing being curios...a side effect of becoming sentient? Another curiosity...in the very beginning of the movie the engineer self-inficts himself in order to introduce his beings DNA on earth. Why? Why kill yourself? With all their tech could they not just drop some DNA goo in the ocean? If there is a part 2, Here are my suggestions on content for it:
1. Dr. Shaw falls in love with David.Android
2. David.android secretly harbors the engineer DNA goo
3. David.android impregnates shaw after infecting himself
4. Shaw gives birth to techno-organic engineer
5. their ship is captured by engineers
6. David.android infects both ships with his programming
7. DAvid.android has anterior motives for shaw & engineers & their whole world. if he can find it by scanning their systems
8. engineers take both back to home world
9. origins of xenomorph revealed somewhere
10. The rest...up to you

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 11:05 AMI'm an original ALIEN Book, Movie pict book, Illustrator and fan.
I basically STUDIED all aspects of the first original movie as a teen.
Prometheus=My feedback.
1. five stars: Once again, a SHOCKINGstunning in your blood instant scifi classic! One thing that a "standard setting" movie will do is create a continuous mental debate having to do with MULTIPLE aspects of the movie, action, story, visuals and sounds, this movie has captured all again like it's original thriller, Alien! As far as I am concerned, this is the new thiller ALL Hollywood producers have to look up to as a standard!
2. Things no so cool: 1. Parading and debating of the cross. 2. The Lady with that had the alien inside and had it surgically removed...SUPERWOMAN, i feel they stretched her health and human resistance to pain and illness a bit to far.

MemberOvomorphJun-27-2012 7:39 AMSorry folks.
I don't understand how you see this movie as a 10/10 or anything close to it. Yes this is the "I liked the movie" forum but I would expect a movie review to talk about the good and the bad.
Go read some of the "I disliked the movie" if you want a complete view of Prometheus.
Many try to explain away the negative comments about the movie. I hear "People don't understand it's not a sequel to Alien." or "You have to look at it as a stand alone movie." or "Prometheus provides more questions than answers and some people can't handle that.". Any way you look at it, even inside out and/or upside down, Prometheus was a disappointment.
I gave it a 6/10.

MemberOvomorphFeb-03-2013 1:52 AMHI THERE HOW COME NO ONE TALKS ABOUT WHAT CHARLIE SAW IN THE ROOM WHERE THE WORMS WERE..HE SAID THIS IS JUST ANOTHER TOMB IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY WHERE THE ALIEN DECON WALL MURAL WAS YOU CAN SEE THERE WAS A GREEN CRYSTAL ROCK IN THE SHAPE OF THE DECONS HEAD...THAT IS WHY HE SAID THIS IS JUST ANOTHER TOMB,ALSO I THINK THATS WHERE THE ENGINEERS GOT THE DECONS DNA TO CREATE THE BLACK GOO....MAYBE THAT PLANET WAS THE ALIENS PLANET .THE DECON MOST LIKELY LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING ELSE BEFORE THEY MIXED IT UP WITH THEIR DNA AND MADE THE HUMANOID DECON ..JUST A THOUGHT
