For those who have seen Prometheus please do NOT post spoilers in this thread. This is a spoiler free topic and should remain so. Spoilers posted will be deleted. This is to offer my personal reaction and some insight to eager fans who have yet to see Prometheus in their own country. Now that that's out of the way, on to my thoughts... Please NOTE: This is NOT our official review, but a mere fraction of my reaction to the film. The official, several page Prometheus-Movie.com Prometheus Review will go LIVE on this site on June 7th, at 4pm EST. ---------------------------------------------------------------- So, I just got back to my hotel room in downtown Toronto, Ontario after seeing an advance screening of PROMETHEUS in the largest theatre I have ever been in personally with incredible surround sound, comfy seats and a quiet, attentive audience. What more can you ask for? I'm sure you all are wondering - was it good?! For starters, you should slap yourself for even asking the question. This is Ridley Scott people - the man who started it all back in 1979 and once again he has done what he does best. Scare the sh*t out of you and make you THINK! Prometheus is MIND BLOWING - a truly incredible experience. One filled with suspense, emotion and incredible philosophy. I will go into MUCH more depth (about 5 pages of depth to be exact) come June 7th in my official review, but for now I'll give you my quick rating: 5/5 stars. Dare I say it, it comes out neck and neck with ALIEN. Prometheus is different. But in so much of a good way. You will notice immediate ties to Alien very, VERY early on in the film and all throughout. I suggest watching ALIEN prior to seeing Prometheus to "freshen up". For me, watching Prometheus was everything I had ever hoped for and more. It's been 3 years that I have been tracking news on the film and building this site for it to finally come to a conclusion as monumental as this was the best feeling I could ever experience without a doubt. The acting - superb. The music, though not like ALIEN, worked perfectly with the plot. No complaints what so ever. Visually - My God.. I have yet to see a film which compares to Prometheus. In other reviews we've already heard people say the visuals were incredible, but you truly have to experience it for yourself to fully appreciate just how stunning this film really is. Creatures - Magnificent. Ridley Scott has done it again and the concepts presented in this film were immense and spectacular! The number of twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I have to say, reading everyone's posts here over the past 3 years - seeing what you all thought of the plot and how things would turn out. We were wrong....We were so wrong. ; ) Hahaha Sorry - had to throw that in there. But seriously - until you see Prometheus, you won't know the full story. Although our speculations for some elements were almost on the money, even I was surprised at so many of the outcomes. Ultimately folks, Prometheus is a wild ride and one that should be enjoyed many times to fully capture it all. The film leaves us with SO many questions left to discuss and speculate over until Prometheus 2 arrives. The plot is fantastic and deserves much respect. It was a thrill of a lifetime for me - a moment which I will never forget. I want to personally thank 20th Century Fox Studios for giving me the opportunity to see this film in advance - what a ride! To everyone reading, you will NOT want to miss my official, full review on June 7th at 4pm EST. I've got nearly a WEEK to perfect this review and add as much detail as humanly possible. Expect a MASSIVE package of information and detailed analysis. I may bring up some things you didn't notice in the film! I was literally on the edge of my seat soaking up every tiny detail which will all become present in my review. I look forward to discussing Prometheus with you on here for months, maybe even years to come! It has been a great journey and fantastic experience and I can't wait until we all have seen the film and can begin dissection once again while we wait for Prometheus 2! Thanks for reading - check back on June 7th for our official Prometheus-Movie.com Movie Review for Prometheus. 'Till then, I'll see you all in the forums to discuss it all! - Chris (BH)

I have "The Omega Man" on HD DVD......so my geek cred es mas macho. Great spoiler-free review, BugHunter. Thanks! They told us it wasn't a direct prequel. They told us it was "just" a suit. They told us it wasn't about the xenos. We saw for ourselves, that the juggernaut couldn't possibly be the derelict and that the moon on which the Prometheus lands doesn't look anything like LV426.........but apparently, a lot of people just wouldn't accept what they were told or what they saw for themselves. There's a river..........

@Prenihility, due to this thread being SPOILER FREE I won't say what we did guess correctly, but I will say some aspects we did figure out. But the point I want to mainly get across is there is sooo much that we did not figure out. And it's great to see finally. I think I walked out of the film with more questions than answers - which is key to the survival of this forum and the expectation of a sequel. So much left to explore. Well done Damon Lindelof. Tip my hat to you! Ridley Scott impresses once again and the cast did a fantastic job. More praise in my full review. ;) And a photo of me at the screening so you all can match a name to a face, haha.

I've seen the movie and I must say that Prometheus definitely needs a sequel. Here are my reasons: -The film is too fast and leaves no time for answers, it's like grabbing a lot of mysteries and sets and put them in force in a small package. -Very few monsters...and I'm serious. -The end of Prometheus is the beginning of another movie. It's like Alien ends with the beginning of Aliens. My conclusion is that Prometheus is a good movie, but not enough to sustain itself ... needs to continue ...

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 11:53 PM
@Shambhala Very few monsters and yet there is supposed to be a lot of carnage? The original alien was just one solitary monster and did plenty of damage all by himself, didn't he? So what do you need so many monsters for? as long as it is lethal and serves his purpose, one single boogeyman can be enough:-)

Chris

AdminEngineerMay-31-2012 11:54 PM
Shambhala, fast paced yes - to a degree. But few monsters?! Did we watch the same film? Haha. There were plenty of monsters! How many were you expecting?? But I do agree - it definitely leads into a sequel, but I wouldn't relate the ending to that of Alien linking to Aliens. There's a LOT which still needs to happen before we get to ALIEN. (Hope that doesn't spoil anything..) BTW - I really like your display pic. Really fits the atmosphere perfectly.. ; )

@BugHunter and @Arkadine The Cobra-Hugger was good, but not a monster to me. The scene at the Hangar is very short and I was expecting a more scary Fifield (a mutation incomplete IMO xp). The only real monsters (for me) were Cuddles and the other...

Well, maybe I just expected more from the scene of the hangar xp ... nothing more.

After reading some of the negative reviews on here just now - it seems to me a lot of people/fans included want all the answers spoon fed to them. It's the generation we live in - all the info a click away. But where is the mystery in that? Did Alien answer all it's questions which were presented in the opening 30 minutes of the film? No, otherwise we would have never gotten Prometheus. Think about it folks, we need questions. It's what makes this so exciting. It's why so many of you logged on here every day for the past 2 years to contribute your thoughts and theories! I find the common complaint is "There's still so many questions to be answered..." Well.. duh. What did you expect? Ridley Scott is not one to spoon feed you the answers. You need to think about it yourself, ponder the possibilities and every now and then he'll throw in some more clues to keep you guessing. It's what's made this franchise so mesmerizing and and intriguing in the first place! Seriously, as a film and a return to Sci Fi for the legendary director - Prometheus is a masterpiece. Those who say otherwise either don't understand or don't appreciate the true nature of this franchise, its story and its vastness of possibilities. Prometheus was fantastic - end of story. ; )

Yes, well I don't think Fox has a choice in the matter - we NEED a sequel! Haha Everyone - buy as much Prometheus merchandise as possible to fund a sequel! Haha

@BugHunter But that is not what those negative reviews are saying. They don't complain about being intellectually challenged; on the contrary: they complain about a rushed story, with bad editing, hack cgi and shallow characters no one cares for. It sounds to me like they perceived Promethues as being a fine example of the status-quo of movie making these days, as opposed to Ridley Scott's signature filmmaking. Of course I will wait until I watch the movie so I can form my own opinion, but those reviews cannot be totally dismissed.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 12:32 AM
@BugHunter Well, i've read reviews (only to simply see what people have to say, i didn't look into ANY content of the movie). People KEEP saying (especially all the negative reviews) that there are more questions than answers. Well this oughta SHUT EVERYONE UP. I'm SICK of hearing that. ALIEN was a preamble to the real deal. The bigger picture. A series that has more movie than Alien (sorry Alien faithful). More content. ALIEN was the preamble to Prometheus. Now Prometheus is the introduction to this incredible, JIMP-inducing series. Now if you're STILL disappointed, and are going to STILL continue to penalize Prometheus for generating more questions than answers. Reconsider what I just said. This is the start of something special. Something that i KNOW will be more realized in terms of viable science; theory, or non-theory. Something that will DUMMY all Sci-Fi in that aspect. Nevermind what it's going to do in terms of content. Just keep reminding yourselves that this is the start of something special. Now let's welcome it.

Spoon fed.... an accurate, operative term well applied. It seems Ridley has done many a great service they aren't very aware that they are doing....thinking, measuring in their minds possibilities that hadn't occured to them previously....instead of being satisfied with a soundbite laden world. To some, easy answers are the only answers...we're getting a bit of a freebie from Ridley and I hope it carries over to other things in peoples lives. oh yeah....GO KINGS!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 12:34 AM
Well, for my part I have not disappointed, I think I'm just an addict and I want more...give me more Prometheus!!! I think I'll have to see this movie again just 5000 times more ...LOL

I still haven't seen it, and I must admit I got a little down seeing the negatory reviews and reactions from people, but since it's you, even though you praised Lindelof (if I need to kick you square in the cahones for that I will :-D) I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I get in to see it......... Peace and much bacon eggs and toast :-D

I want you to convince me that had you never seen Alien or heard of Ridley Scott before, that you would love this movie. If you remove the "Alien" branding from this movie and hold it by itself, if you are able to stop giving it passes because you intentionally knew that it was trying to be different, was it a great movie, just good, so-so, or lacking. THAT'S when you're really going to find the quality of this film.

thanks bh, I have really enjoyed the site...I think it has been a perfect go-to while waiting for this monumental event...I appreciate your positive review, because I know I am going to love this movie too, not just because of what transpires on-screen, but because of all it represents to me...there I said it, I put it out there, corny as it may be- I will love it regardless because of what it is...cant wait to see it next week, cant wait to read your full review...take care

BH: Could you postpone your Review date? I would like to see it, friend, but the movie will be released at the 11th of June, not the 7th. So, I can't see your review prior to watching the movie... unless you'll leave a written copy of it in this Forum. most obliged

It's impossible to take any review as a serious impression of the movie. I have yet to see the film, but it's obvious that some big fans who had such faith in this film over the past months will say it's "mind blowing" even if it isn't, and the excuse that others don't like it? "They don't understand it & need to be spoon fed". My biggest fear is that this film will please the "epic" crowd.

the admins oh here all seem pretty sensible so i do feel i can trust their opinon about the movie. film critics tend to be overly "critical" and a bunch of killjoys. thanks bughunter for that balanced spoilerfree opinion.

Hi All I have just registered to post only this comment. this is how disappointed I am. Like most of you who did not see it yet I was completely ignoring early mixed reviews and negative comments. I wanted to like it, I booked the ticket for midnight screening a month in advance. I like everything alien and I completely did not mind that the movie was going to be only loosely tied to the alien saga. However there is no way true fans are going to be happy with the film. And it is not about lack of xenomorphs, lack of gore and horror. It is simply a very flawed movie that lacks any character or atmosphere. the movie is flat - the mankind's profound and important questions that were supposed to be answered here are not answered. there are so many things that are wrong. Music, sparse dialogs that do not bring anything (or are just plaid dumb) , weird pacing of the film but most of all - this film does not have a central idea and does not make you engaged. You just sit and watch and and as soon you are out of the cinema you forgot about it. It is just a popcorn movie - and not a very gripping one. The grand mythology is a joke. And where is the twist/suprise in the plot that we were promised? I am disappointed. The only thing I liked is 3D - really beautiful - but this is not a reason we were eagerly awaiting this movie. It is a shame - could have been a good movie but turned out to be a confusing mix of differenct things and I cannot escape thinking the whole purpose of this movie was to make money. The script is really rubbish. Sorry folks - I wanted it to be great. I did not put any spoilers for those who did not see it yet , but in my opinion it is not going to make any difference.
