MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 12:19 AMIn an earlier thread, I said that the cobralien (hammerpede) reminded me of the hagfish or slime eel, a disgusting sea creature that eats corpses from the inside-out.
While acknowledging that the newly added Wiki plot summary might be bollocks, I just couldn't help but notice how much Milburn's death by cobralien matches the hagfish's life cycle:
"Back in the temple, Fifield (Sean Harris) and Milburn (Rafe Spall) are attacked by an alien snake-like creature. Milburn is killed and Fifield falls into a pool of the dark substance from the ampules. Janek, David, Holloway, Shaw, Ford and the crew return to the temple and find Milburn's corpse and the creature inside, which jumps away."
Ewwwwww.
Slime Eel - featuring a really nasty photo of its tentacles & pearly whites, plus a video of swarming hagfish

Hagfish Just Got More Disgusting - "When they can't pack enough flesh into their tentacle-lined mouths, hagfish absorb the carcass's nutrients right through their skin."

So yeah, I'm thinking the creature designer for the cobralien might have been working from the hagfish model.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 1:03 AMWhat bothers me a bit is that the design is similar to the creature in "Dreamcatcher".
