MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 12:32 PMI agree 100%. This forum is great, but as you've said we do suffer greatly from thread spam. Thread spam (duplicate threads) kill intelligent discussion, and conversation fades out in a matter of 10 posts or so.
Over at the AVPGALAXY forum they have a single thread for each new trailer/media release, and there is a ton of great conversation over there, people are finding hidden gems within the footage all the time. I like the mods on this forum, but I think things really need tightening up here or the forum quality will suffer.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 12:44 PMAvP Galaxy also BUMPS. threads die around here simply because the system with the forum NOT bumping is just silly. It just creates tons of duplicate threads....

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 1:06 PMThe bumping of threads would be the ultimate solution. The search function is useful indeed, but not as effective as proper bumps.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 1:12 PMYes: I bump, for, "bumps".
It's the only way to be sure.
A lot of very interesting, unique and thought-provoking discussion is being buried and lost under an avalanche of people creating redundant, "OMG! LOOK AT THIS!", and, "I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but..", vanity threads.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 1:20 PMNot here. The forum doesn't rank threads by contribution, it ranks by date. We really need this feature to help save decent conversation (and allow bumping to work).

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 2:02 PMI'm from Las Vegas, what's a bump? (Also not the most computer literate guy!)

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 2:11 PM@karstenphd In a forum that ranks threads by activity, a bump is a post that is used to maintain the threads forum rank when no one is posting.
Essentially is your thread is falling to the bottom of the page in the forum, you'll write a post that says "bump" to bring it back up the rankings.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 2:22 PMI remember a good few years ago, (back in my more non-message
board-savvy youth) on a certain musician fansite I put a fairly good
response message up as part of a thread on a forum and someone replied
with 'bump' under my message. I thought he was being funny and wanted to either shoulder-barge me or hit me for my views. I felt like voicing my
perplexed disparagement at this curt reply and confronting the offending poster, but didn't, thank God. Because with the benefit of hindsight and the resulting wisdom since, I would've looked a right proper tool.
karstenphd, when someone replies with 'bump' it moves the topic up to the top of the message board to gain more notice. This only happens on forums on which posts are sorted by the newest messages/replies first.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 2:40 PMToo funny. I am a member of another unrelated forum and I received an infraction for "necro-bumping". The infraction was awarded not 5 minutes after a warning was sent to me which I didn't notice because I hadn't set-up "pop-ups". I found it hilarious that I took the time to search the forum, found a relative thread and decided to comment on the "original", actually doing what most threaded discussion communities want you to do.
LOL....NECRO-BUMPING....Don't even think about it!!!
Here, I bump threads by adding at least a small comment even if it is "Hey, that's a cool thought!"

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMay-01-2012 8:22 AMInteresting because it got buried. I just found this. Now, anytime someone posts in a thread it DOES sorta get bumped on the Community page, not the most ideal solution I know since it seems like not many of you check that page, but it does happen and works pretty effectively when you keep a page open with the Community link and refresh it. I hate having to lock people's threads, and awhile back I did try to include both a reason and a link to previous threads, but it got a little annoying as I was finding that not many people were being bothered to even have a look for what they wanted to post in the already posted threads, and there were duplicate threads appearing right under each other, which meant that people were not even bothering to read the content of a thread. Now that the search option is live it's a bit easier, but you all still have to take the time to have a look. It takes but a few moments of your time. BugHunter has created this whole site from scratch and coded the whole thing himself, so give him, and us, a break guys. We do our best to keep up. We're volunteers with our own lives to take care of outside the forum. I'm just lucky enough to be able to do it at work.

MemberOvomorphMay-02-2012 11:08 AM@Cypher,
I somehow was thinking about reasonable persons, but you may be right, sometimes people start replicating issues without care. Thanks for answering.

MemberTrilobiteMay-02-2012 11:12 AMIf no-one has messaged Chris (BH) about this I can easily do so, but I suspect he has heard your voice and is working on it as we speak.
