If the Eel is going in his arm, as evidenced by the worm thing in his eye, then maybe the Space Jockey's are able to create a host body by first infecting it. Yes, I'm saying the Space Jockey's may actually be the Eels (a la stargate).

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:00 PMnot a bad theory...I'm also starting to think the eels may be more than just simple life forms.
RickK
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:01 PMI think the SJ shown heading towards the chair is Holloway, as is the being that is after Shaw in the newer trailer - just what I think...
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 2:10 PMLet me flesh out my thinking (warning - I'm making this up as I type)...
The Eels are sentient lifeforms, but also symbiotic. Although they can exist without a body, it is when they have a host that they are truly Space Jockey's.
They attack a host before entering the body, once inside they rewrite the hosts DNA to make them into the ideal host (blue skin, no hair, no nose-bridge) while also becoming the dominant consciousness.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:13 PM@Snorkelbottom
Makes sense to me. And it has "ALIEN DNA"... Parasite aliens using humans as hosts for an ultimate purpose.
artyoh
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:38 PMYeah, I'd considered the possibility of a symbiosis between sentient worms and human hosts...... but then I rejected it, for the simple reason that it's been done before....on TV......so, I really, really hope that isn't what's going on. I'd prefer to think of the worms as a delivery system, or engineered genetic disease vectors.
RickK
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:43 PMThere isn't much that hasn't been done before. If old concepts are re-used hopefully what will set this film apart will be in the presentation.
artyoh
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:53 PMI dunno, RickK, there are already slightly unnerving "ancient astronaut" parallels between "Stargate" and "Prometheus." Goa'uld symbiosis would just be one too many, IMO.
draekus
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 3:04 PMWasn't the Goa'uld symbiosis also featured in ST: Deep Space Nine? (I forgot the character's name.)
Even if the worms have nothing to do with the actual jockey characters, I still think Holloway turns into one of those blue SJ's.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 3:10 PMYea its creepy with the thought that the space jockeys lay dorment in an eel form. That would actually disappoint me. I hope the worms are just a way to infect people and turn them into skeletal monstrousitys and the space jockeys are just god like beings that live a long time and get mad and wanna destroy earth.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 3:31 PMGreat work draekus! Great spot!
Like everyone else here who's guessing at the film's intentions based on a few minutes of dis-jointed footage, I hope we see some fresh concepts and a new sic-fi/ horror story perspective from Ridley and his people.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 3:59 PMIf the Jockey is mutated from Holloway I wonder why the one of the four sarcophagus in the chair room is open.
Here is my hypothesis:
1. The goo mutates Human into SJ form. Eel is nasty defensive sideeffect.
2. The sarcophagus helps to finish the transformation.
3. The SJ form then needs to wear the SJ suit and sit in the chair.
4. The telescope above the chair then serves to download the SJ mind to the SJ form seated in the chair.
5. The SJ mind is originally located elsewhere, the telescope points to the place of origin of the SJ mind.
6. The completed/downloaded SJ then goes to colonize... and use host bodies.
I think it makes sense.
The large SJ head is symbol of SJ mind.
The ampules are vessels - used to make suitable hosts for the mind.

That's an awesome thought, I would love that.

Ooh, chills, original idea, demented, (but only from a human perspective.)
If we're the bacteria being mutated, the ants being experimented on, for the good of a greater mind (not "better" but greater), so be it. ...A little forced evolution anyone?
Nice, nice, nice.

I dont doubt that holloway is the blue sj. But im not convinced that the whole SJ race is derived from worms and goo.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 4:51 PMI'll be utterly amazed if some, any Human in this film, mutates into an "Engineer". It seems to fit but somehow I just do NOT think that happens...still...I differ to you experts...if you say so...then I will have to accept it just like if it does actually happen in the film, I will accept it, and Like Ridley has said it's about a lot bigger things then we think.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 5:37 PMOmg, i said it a month or so ago, Alien v Stargate is on its way!
draekus
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:03 PMJust to be clear - I'm not rooting for any humans to or not to turn into SJ's. I just noticed the images seemed to have the same distinct feature (missing nose-bridge).
Another interesting note - once the shit hits the fan in the trailer you really dont see much of Holloway. I realize all the scenes can be out of order, but you generally only see scenes with Logan Marshal Green in what appears to be the first two thirds of the movie. Now granted that's all speculation on my part since I have no idea when these scenes take place, but here's what I believe the order to be:
Scenes featuring Holloway
With Shaw discovering the maps
Briefing the team
In Prometheus while its landing/approaching the planet?
In the temple and getting infected?
Making out with Shaw, and then sitting in bed next to her? (for all we know this may take place before they even land on the planet.)
Heading out to the temple for a second trip...or coming back from a second trip. Either way he's changing/mutating in this pic. - (Third image in the first post)
....and I think that's it. There's plenty of more action/horror scenes with Shaw, Vickers, and most of the other characters...none of which include Holloway. Feel free to add in any scenes I may have missed.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:11 PMWith all due respect, I hope it isn´t so. The host concept is as worn out as the Xenomorph. Ridleys "ant comparison" in the Sydney Morning Herald really sparked my impression of an "elephant in the room" kind of plot in Prometheus - the truth was there all the time, we just didn´t see it. I hope the real shock lies in an unbearable and shocking truth, that´s hard to absorbe and comprehend. Like thinking of the universe and where it stops, can drive you crazy, because you can´t wrap your brain around it.

I hope you're right! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I don't care one way or another if any character ends up being the Jockey/Blue Guy. I just want a damn good Sci-Fi movie.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:19 PMI DO think that Holloway is in some way changed/transformed into Mr Blue. I feel like there is something really sinister about that. Like when Sir Ridley said in an interview regarding the alien from the original move "They're weapons" Perhaps what shaw turn into could be some equivelent of "they're soldiers" or "they're tools". I bet the "Engineers" as their now dubbed only use all of the monsters/aliens they've spawned some sort of practical use.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:43 PMSo hold on a sec...
We have now seen EEL-like things with sharp teeth bursting forth from peoples chests in what?...6 movies now over the last 33 odd years, but now we also have a remarkably familiar EEL-like thing with teeth in Prometheus but suddenly its a SYMBIOTIC lifeform???
Geebus, thats kind of a stretch isnt it??
artyoh
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:49 PMParasitism, ( ie: the chestburster ) is a form of symbiosis.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:53 PMSo is a tapeworm.
How about we all agree they get tapeworms then?
And then how about we make this 42 minutes, throw in a big eared bartender and blame the whole thing on a subspace anomoly.

The symbiosis is just a theory.
...and how do we know the eel thing in prometheus have teeth? Did I miss something?

I completely agree with your comment. But I'm worried our expectations are too high. Maybe the film is nothing more than a recycling of old ideas. Maybe what we've guessed from the trailers is all there is to it, and this is just a decent popcorn film like the SW prequels.
I certainly hope that's not the case.
