It is a combination of matching what is going on with the movie and enhancement with the score. Except for a few iconic scores, I don't notice scores much if it blends really well if that makes sense. It begs the question if movies we revere could stand without any musical score.
I don't recall seeing a movie with no musical score at all. I see that they are out there and date back from the 70s until at least 2014- but I never saw any of them. Can anyone cite any?

MemberTrilobiteJun-19-2018 8:57 PMIRaptus That was strange but not completely bad. It would be tough to watch that entire movie without a score though. That is a great clip to illustrate the point.
That said, for games I always shut off the score so I can better hear what is going on in the environment.
