Imagine an Engineer getting mad at a person and he or she knows that it will probably kill him or her then maybe doing the unexpected will save her. Tickle the Engineer could be an attempt at surviving.
Someone has got to bring up the odd issues that are associated with the alien universe, I don't have any problem to be the one that does that.
