Gigeresque excess..

MemberOvomorphNov-27-2017 3:11 PMI don't see planet 4 as the home-world , just a science/religious back water that got in the path of events , certainly not "Paradise" . I envisage the home-world as a terrifying Gigeresque excess , gothic , cathedral , a powerful sudo-sexual matriachal dominant society .

MemberNeomorphNov-28-2017 7:40 AMI hate the thought that it was their home world. with their technology and being portrayed in Prometheus as gods, they just come out as weak in covenant. I can handle them being mortal but I was expecting much much more out of the engineers. theyv been badly used so far imo

MemberChestbursterNov-28-2017 8:33 AMIt's unclear. I think that it probably was the homeworld, or what they CHOSE as their mainworld so it could be referred to the homeworld (out on a branch here haha.) I stick to that because Ridley Scott has been very consistent and rather adament about it begin their homeworld. I do agree that the decision to make the desgin more ancient human style (just on a huge, epic scale). They have explained it well, (behind the scenes and the commentary by Scott) but it doesn't make me want a nathmare-ish Gigeresque world any less.
Although with the fact that the Engineers are supposed to factor back in and find out what David did on Planet 4, I think that we can maybe still get a glimpse of another world that is what we were told to expect when concepts for Prometheus 2 were being discussed

MemberNeomorphNov-28-2017 8:42 AMI just think the fact its their home world and with all their tech it wasn't better defended makes them look weak. Ridley has described the engineers as a higher aggressive race and yet they last 2 mins. id like to think there are more worlds out there that have been colonised by the engineers. if they haven't then its a pretty stupid decision on their part and again they don't come off well after being portrayed originally as gods

MemberChestbursterNov-28-2017 9:48 AMAgreed. The Engineers on Planet 4 were very different from the, "aggressive f***ers" Scott described at one point. We will probably see the return of that kind of Engineer in the next film, if they do indeed factor into the plot (gotta take Scott's words with a grain of salt)

MemberNeomorphNov-28-2017 10:06 AMsame here. the idea I loved most was post Prometheus that the engineers we saw in the bio-mechanical suits were more a militant faction. maybe their society was similar to ours in that the normal inhabitants are just day to day working family raising joe's but they have a military might that happens to be capable of space travel. I still the fact the engineers r tens if not hundreds of thousands of years ahead of us, the fact they got smoked so easily just makes them look like pussies.

MemberPraetorianNov-28-2017 1:23 PMAgreed on the Engineer homeworld being beautifully Gigeresque!
Ati shared some great artwork that could be totally used as concept art for said homeworld, such as this beauty!

MemberXenomorphNov-28-2017 3:45 PMThey(Fox) don't have/own the rights to Giger's library and style. Gonna co$t big bucks to make any world 'Gigeresque'.
Kickstart a fund to buy the rights?

MemberDeaconNov-28-2017 3:51 PMI think this is one of the very interesting concepts... the portrayal of the Engineers, and again a lot has evolved over the years regarding direction and plans for the Franchise, from the inception of ideas that lead to Jon Spaights Alien Engineers... to what we have now, who knows what has been changed over and over.
Does RS and Co even know what they are doing? With all the changes of direction, or is there a actual plan?
I think a lot depends on how people interpret Prometheus and the Clues since and Ridley Scotts comments, and then its a case of have they (RS and FOX) changed the route/plan and ideas from Prometheus?
I had mentioned a number of times in the Run up to Alien Covenant, we need to consider what is Paradise?
Paradise has a number of different interpretations depending upon which Religion/Mythos you look at.
During the run up to Alien Covenant, Ridley Scott had more times than most referred to the Engineers as Fallen Angels and mentioned the Paradise Lost Poem a number of times... THEREFORE if we look at Paradise as in context to the Paradise Lost and Biblical Sense then here are a few things to CONSIDER
PARADISE: Is not where GOD comes from.
PARADISE: Is not where the ANGELS come from.
PARADISE: Is the Cradle of Civilization (Mankind's Ancestry).
PARADISE: Is watched over/guarded by the Cherubim Angels.
If we look at it in this context i think maybe things could start to make more sense....
There is a difference between the LV-223/Sacrificial Engineers and those on Planet 4, the Question is this difference on purpose? or just another RS Oversight much like the Engineers Size?
Those beings on Planet 4 seemed to live a life much like Ancient Mankind, they posses Technology but they seem to only use it for a limited number of things and SHUN the Technology much like Buddhist Monks do. The Cathedral Dome seemed to be a place of Great Importance and a MASSIVE building. The Top of it appeared to have some kind of TECHNOLOGY. This place seemed to offer a Sanctuary to the Engineers and a large number of them were trying to Enter this Place before it SEALED itself off. We can assume a number of Engineers remained inside and survived for some time.
Inside we have the Hall of Heads, and what appears to be a Sacrificial Table.... RS had mentioned to those who visited the Set, that the heads represented the Wise Men, Apostles and Superior Beings (Superior to Mankind or the Engineers?) and another member of Production called them the HIERARCHY
The Engineers on Planet 4, also seemed to be amazing in hundreds of thousands to welcome back a Engineer Ship and appeared oblivious to the threat it posed.. (there are maybe 3 possible reasons for this, but thats for another Topic). The Juggernaught was approaching the Hanger and it was opening up and this HANGER had Statues around it at 12/3/6/9 o'clock and these Statues are Pretty much the same as Buddhist Offering Statues.
The Deleted Scenes, which we maybe cant take as Canon, did show us that the Hanger already had Engineer Ships and so the Purpose of those Ships in Context to WHY and HOW often they arrive at Planet 4 and what relation they have with LV-223 is the BIG QUESTION.
So i think it would be interesting to explore this more, and RS has said Engineers will return back to Planet 4 to find the Destruction left behind, because THEY return every now and again... so a BIG Question has to be WHY and WHERE do they go or come from.
Its all very ambiguous still and could be explored in a number of ways, but indeed The Burning Question would be WHERE does the Advanced Engineer Technology come from and WHY is it only used so sparingly on Planet 4
If PARADISE is like the Biblical One, and Planet 4 is Paradise, then this place is NOT the Home world of the Engineers well certainly not the HIERARCHY above them.

MemberNeomorphDec-03-2017 2:52 AMWhat we saw of them in Alien Covenant was kind of weak, it could have been a lot better. I would like to think of what we saw in Covenant as a sort of outpost or what ever and not their real homeworld. Hopefully they will make it better in the next movie.
"We will probably see the return of that kind of Engineer in the next film..."
Hopefully, that could be interesting depending on how they choose to portray it. It would be interesting if they have some sort of army (compare it to the war fleets like they have in Star Wars).

MemberOvomorphDec-03-2017 2:49 PMSome fan art , or at least that that's cast it's icy gloaming into my dark psyche oft exudes that graphic density , almost out Gigering Giger , even some of the promo art for Covenant had that succulent depth of horror that rarely made it onto the screen & which I still" await ". Off on a tangent - there is a 4K version of Prometheus ! (Actually I love the film) anyone made the blu-ray comparison ?
