The picture is poor. Perhaps you can make some enhanced ones, Ingeniero? :) But as I saw AC again I noticed hewn entrances on the mountainsides. Maybe the engineers buried their dead there?

Thank you very much Ingeniero, right after the release of the prologue 'The Crossing' I was brave enough to share my crazy ideas about a possible Petra connection.

Plus, I stated that I did not believe the words David uttered.

Those articles were not very popular at that time...

Certainly see the influences from the Ancient City of Petra

There are a number of other cities built from Caves, a number of these are Monastery or Religious related.

As far as the purpose within the Engineer Culture i think its open to interpretation just as the many Cave Cities etc that we have on Earth.

Maybe its where they started there settlements? a Evolutionary Step from simple Cave Folk?  Or maybe indeed its the place they rest their dead?

I think the BIGGEST Answer to this Question would have to be what Connection do those beings on Paradise/Planet 4 have with the Engineers in the Prometheus Prologue?

And also if these beings Originated from Planet 4, be it the Birthplace of the Engineer Race, or simply a place that some Engineers had settled down on, and had little Advanced knowledge of their kind.

The reason i mention this is, is because if the Engineers Originated from another place and had Advanced Knowledge and Technology and they Settled down on Planet 4, we would assume they would construct buildings and cities using rock from the Mountains but maybe not build them directly in the Mountains.

Which could then mean maybe these are indeed Catacombs etc.

If you was a Race who had no Advanced Technology at hand, then starting off from Caves would be the more ideal way to begin a Civilization.  Especially if the mountains contained Caves already.

@chli - I wish David had wondered around in these caves for us!  I am intrigued about much unexplored Planet 4 information!

It would be nice to have a Book that would cover Engineer Culture and History, i think concentrating and showing us the caves and all sorts would take up too much screen time.

Maybe from the next movie to ALIEN once RS has finished, depending how the Engineers and Hierarchy are covered and how much/less is covered and then Fan Reaction to it all.

We could maybe see the Engineers Explored in some kind of way, be it a Novel, a Graphic Novel, a Weyland-Files Book or some other Historical Book... maybe even TV Series or Movie?

I think a lot depends on how they are covered in the next movies and how they are received and also how well in general the next few movies do, as far as to what impact/potential we have for seeing the Engineers get their own Spin Off .. Movie/TV Series.

I sadly cant see it happen... and there is more chance that in 15-20 years FOX will Reboot the Franchise with a New Ripley.

Yes, I agree that the connection between the humanoids we saw on Planet 4 and the engineers we met on LV-223 is interesting, especially since they are very different. The engineers on LV-223 were bigger and albinos for instance. And a book or do***entary about engineer culture would be nice. :)

chli - It was confirmed by Scott and others that they are Engineers.

Why do they look different?

LV-223 Engineers jumped in their chambers 2000 years ago. They were special Engineers (soldiers) wearing special suits.

LV-223 outbreak/2000 years/changes in their culture and lifestyle/shift of focus/David speaks about it in the Advent video, etc.

That's why Planet 4 Engineers are so simple...

Ati - OK, I see what you mean but I don't think you would get these kinds of differences in a population in 2000 years' time, only with selective breeding. You also suggested that they were special from the beginning (perfect engineers), pilots needed another physical strength perhaps? Well, I also see before me scientist on LV-223 not needing this physique. Anyway, we might get some answers in the next movie . . .
