That is sort of what I thought.

I won't make the same mistakes again. My expectations killed the movie and i blame it's marketing. I'll completely ignore the film once the first trailer is up.

Good to see you again! Username is upside down. My copy/paste function does not work with your name. If you feel compelled, you can explain it here: http://www.alien-covenant.com/topic/46080

I will try again.

I think i will be exploring the marketing, trailers, pausing, being a geek, general stuff.

However it wont be the same. i really thought my time invested would reward me when i watched the film. It didnt happen and i left the cinema a bit numb.

However i really enjoyed the time researching so i will probably do the same. i wanted to piece the story together and i pretty much managed it but the lack of reveals hurt.

This time round i will know that there is little reward for your time. will probably be another A-C type film. My interest is with the Xeno and Engineers not so much the crew

sherris Those might be good reasons to delve into the spoilers and speculation- except do it knowing you will likely be wrong in some ways.

I thought I could avoid but it became too much and I just gave in and wallowed in the spoilers! Besides, it was the only way to stay engaged on the forum- I actually enjoy that more than the movie itself. Thanks for the input!

I avoided almost everything regarding Alien:Covenant after following everything regarding Prometheus, then being super disappointed by it, and honestly it was the best thing I ever did, I was able to have no expectations and actually enjoy the movie this time around. I'll be doing the same for Awakenings.

Lilly (Svanya) Fair point. The thing for me was that the spoilers did not change my opinion of the movie. We had spoilers and speculation but the movies themselves were different- I realized how spoilers were edited and manipulated to make me think a certain way and it all changed for me seeing the main event. This is why I will give into everything released for Awakening. It will be a fun ride picking stuff apart while knowing the actual movie will not be what I expected. That sounds pretty strange but it works for me and I am tired of guessing what a director has in mind knowing the track record of changing his mind and .........who really knows what we will see. I am ok with that and am too old to really care that a movie does not meet my narrow personal notion of how it should be.

I avoid most spoilers before watching Alien Covenant so the viewing experience is still good. If I could choose again I may steer clear all promotion materials/trailers and stuffs. But for me it's very hard to avoid the temptation, especially if the Awakening is going to tie with the 1979 Alien. Alien Covenant is not the best in the franchise but I still enjoy it a lot.

DK -

The movie was not spoilt for me either. I set myself a challenge of trying to piece the clues together so that i knew how the film pans out. The order of the clips etc..

i loved every geek minute searching for a new snippet each day. ill admit it what i done lol ;)

i managed really well in the end and was happy. my negatives of A:C are not the marketing which i chose to check. i wanted to see everything they had to give us. No. the negative for me was they told us it was a sequel to Prometheus and billed as such but they brushed aside the engineer story. yet left the engineer alphabet in and all the details. but ignored them. fancy sets just to be ignored.

other than that i was well happy with a:c

I avoided all spoilers for A:C. I plan to do the same for A:A. There is a thread on this website where the title is to descriptive. It's about Walter being in A:A. I wish the title of that thread was more vague.

I think a number of us could not help ourselves.. ;)

And will likely repeat the same again....

I think indeed FOX need to be careful of its Marketing and Trailers and not give enough away...

Yes, I will do my best to avoid spoilers! I mean, the early leaks/news that come about the script, creatures, or certain other things, I will jump on and analyze (before production starts or in the beginning of it), but I definitely spoiled the Covenant experience a little bit for myself.

I just couldn't control myself! Funnily enough, I don't really remember any parts that were spoiled by coming here. I think there were a few topics that I shouldn't have clicked on (I was probably well warned in the title and beginning of the article too!), but the trailers are what destroyed it for me.

My plan for the next film is to visit here as usual until production starts (give or take a few weeks.) From there, I will limit myslef on daily visits here, or just make sure to avoid any possible major spoilers topic. Once we are about 6 months out... That is the most dangerous time, I think. A trailer might drop around then or little before, so I may go completely M.I.A. at that point. Oh, MOST importantly, I will only watch the first trailer for sure. Maybe the first full trailer too, I don't know.

The worst part about trying to avoid the forum and trailers completely is that I just want to talk about the Alien franchise and watch the new additions to it!! It is sooo hard to actually go cold turkey. It's a struggle everytime haha.

Do you not feel the interaction and excitement around the latest snippets is more rewarding over the months prior ?

For what it takes out of the film is negligible depending on your outlook.

If i weigh up the times i spent enjoying the marketing and being involved and such against my feelings of a 2hr film not being as mysterious as it could of been ?

EDIT: I will do it all again. and i also respect your decision for what is best for you

Good question dk, to me it swing both ways. Knowing the spoiler of Shaw still meant nothing for me as I didn't how, when or why. The totality of all the released promos visually spoiled where the locations would unfold and that is something i "may" try to void for the next installment. Could we say now that excessive use of promos spoiled the box office results or not? Surely it's complicated but the overall vibe I get is too much of the final film was shown in trailers. Kinda hard not to partake when addiction is a mental disorder, mostly

Assuming Awakening is even made at this point, I will do my best to limit my exposure to anything related to the film, so it's a complete surprise. I feel like I knew too much about Covenant through Fox's extensive marketing campaigns...the back burster should have been a COMPLETE surprise, NOT something that was in the trailers. Seeing that for the first time would have likened my reaction to Shaw's c-section scene (but nothing can top that, IMO) :)

sherris, it's tough. Spending half my days here on the forums and viewing all the new footage, photos, interviews, etc., is REALLY fun! I have just kind of hit a point in which I despise the marketing of movies (too much is given away) and I want to to try and do my best to go in to a film and, like, let IT carry me through the story and all the details.

Whether someone wants to try and be like me, or more like you (trying to connect everything during the build up and see if you were right and just have fun during that period), it's cool either way. At this point in my life though, I want to try and keep away from that.

My first REAL test now is The Last Jedi... I stopped looking at analysis, predictions, and news videos/articles in...probably November. I just want to see the full trailer and then back under my rock. Now, if I hap across a major spoiler on social media or something within a month or two of the release, I mean, can't do much about that unfortunately. IF I can pull this off, I think that I can handle Awakening!

I basically went in to the Force Awakens in the dark! I think...

ALL THAT being said, I will probably end up staying active on this site all the way up to and through the release of the next film! My goal will be to just stay away from trailer analyses or legitimate/possible major leaks, you know? I would still steer towards the theories, artwork, etc.

Good luck with that one !!

And i think this is a great place which kind of keeps us coming back and then we indulge.

That said, you mention SW Force Awakens etc.. Now i do have some discipline in other Franchises. So i will try not to watch those trailers but if they pop up, then i will begrudgingly look and be amazed then think "oh fuck i wasnt gonna do that"

So it is just this Franchise really that i indulge or put any time into really.I can resist the force of other franchises somehow;)

How about the images? The only spoilers i hated from clips and images were the part where xenomorph is shown on a windshield, neomorph and backburster david and goo falling...

That will be difficult since the www will probably be filled with them so I will probably see some no matter if I want to or not. Hopefully this place will avoid a lot of spoilers (one or two might be OK but not a lot).

I hope Fox will drop the next sequel suddenly and without any prior promotion/teaser, just like a Beyonce album.
