Alien: Covenant Blu-ray release date

They're putting it out on Blu Ray less than 3 months after it came out in theaters to try to recoup the money they've lost, hilarious.

This is standard practice and not a reflex. A lot of movies nowadays come out pretty quick behind their theatrical run. Wonder Woman is coming out on video in August too, I guess they're trying to recoup as well? Lol

Good comparison, a movie that's made a shitload of money to one that hasn't. I know some movies come out faster on Blu Ray than they used to, this is definitely panic for the Alien universe. Just keep your head in the sand and think Covenant is great and that Fox is happy with the amount of money it's made. Newsflash they're not

I'm not keeping my head in the sand, I'm being objective. You imply that since the movie is coming out three months from its theatrical run that its saying Fox is scrambling for cash but then I use Wonder Woman as an example since it is doing very well at the box office but coming out around the same time showing that what you believe to be panic is false. Now it just looks like you are trying to grasp at straws. Yes, Covenant didnt do great domestically but overall $228 million worldwide against a $97 mill budget isnt bad.

Ok? What do you want us to do? We didn't write Covenant, and who knows, maybe it didn't make a lot of money, but we love it just the same.

Are we "keeping our heads in the sand", because we love it? We're not going to stop loving it, just because some people don't.

Anyhow, Covenant isn't even finished making money. For example, I've ordered six "Weyland-Yutani: Covenant" T-shirts for me and my husband and my sister and my friends to wear to my birthday next month. Undoubtedly some of my birthday gifts will be Alien and Covenant related.

We love it and we're fans of it, ok? Some people just like the original movie and they feel it can't be topped. That's great, you all can just keep watching the original movie ad infinitum, don't let us stop you.

I'm excited for the Blu-ray. I want the sequel to get made and I'd be happy with just one more prequel. I like the idea of an Alien prequel trilogy..

Nicely put @VivisectedEngineer :-) Even if it didn't do the greatest, it's still a great film and there are lots of great films that bombed (WAY worse than Covenant) at the box office. I'm gladly throwing cash at Fox because I'm loving what they're doing. I'm stoked Covenant is coming out soon since I can't wait to watch it in my lair >:-) Hopefully Ridley gets to make as many films needed to properly tell his story.

It might not have a Director's Cut this soon, but maybe an extra could be a bootlegged phone cam version with people walking in front of the screen speaking Chinese and not seeing the Alien/morphs!

No Ridley was grasping at straws sniffing coke when he was making this movie, haha. Hopefully the Alien universe will rest in peace after this shitstorm. Covenant is a flop, people are considering The Mummy a flop which has made over 100 million more dollars than Covenant worldwide already and only has about a 30 million more dollar budget than Covenant so if that's the case Covenant is a huge flop.

And you're throwing the word great around very loosely, this movie is the furthest thing from great. It's a disgrace to the Alien film franchise.

Who even watches blurays? Can't wait for this on DVD. Honestly this movie will be in the top 10 of best films this year, easily. 

dk I actually have seen the chinese version and it totally sucks! In the end for some reason they even cut the part where David regurgitates one of the embryos. So for them it's one facehugger embryo, not two.

3-4 months from theatrical release to DVD/Blu is typical. Prometheus was only 4 months.

Thanks!!! I can't wait too! ...O_O; it comes out right on Krishna Janmashtami! ...Must...resist...the temptation to watch it while I should be at the temple...

Oh well, at least by then I can watch it to console myself over the tragic demise of my summer vacation T_T .And yes, hopefully Ridley WILL tell his story regardless of what detractors think. At this point in his career he doesn't have to cater to everyone's whims, he can focus on his own creative vision.

Wow, that is a really interesting tidbit! Can you imagine the censorship person's thinking? "Regurgitating one facehugger embryo? Seems fine. REGURGITATING TWO FACEHUGGER EMBRYOS!? Oh, come on now! That's just obscene!" Hehe.

There were Blu Rays in the 90s, hahahahaha. Less than 3 months doesn't equal 3 to 4 months. That's like addition and subtraction, less than 3 months equals 2 months and however many days. Like May 19th to August 15th isn't quite 3 months, not very hard to figure that out and I suck at math. And yeah I know most movies come out on Blu Ray faster than they used to, read all comments before making statements as I said this in a previous comment, there are plenty of movies that still take longer to come out on Blu Ray cause they wait for holidays and such, man I am so dumb I guess. Thanks for reminding me it's 2017 where have I been, the years have flown by so fast just yesterday it was still the 90s, what the f#@k.

No way I'm having a blast ripping this movie, it's always good times. That's just how I talk, I like those words and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it to the accordance of the rules. I could not use the symbols but I was told by some people to do so because bad words hurt people's feelings. Cause everyone on here is 5 I guess and hasn't heard those words ever, haha. Please don't use words like obfuscated those are too big for trolls like me.

Oh god, where do I start? Hate the most, David, but the scene I hate the most and should have walked out right afterward was the proto/xeno, whatever the hell it is, chest bursting out of Crudup's character and him and David with their arms up and all that ridiculous, cheesy garbage and terrible CGI. But I thought Ridley would make up for everything because I really wanted to like this movie bad, boy was I wrong. I think if he had had Daniels realize and maybe ask a few questions to make sure Walter was Walter and her knowing it was David and taking him out somehow that would have salvaged the movie for me. There still would have been plenty of other stuff I hated and lots of ridiculous stuff in the movie but if she would have taken out David I could have lived with it. But nope everyone is dumb cause when there are two androids who look exactly like each other one wouldn't ask a couple questions to make sure he was really who he was.

Uugh. That's a long time away. Was hoping sooner.

Got it preordered in 4K for my OLED...gonna be great! Can't wait for the special features and, eventually, extra cuts!

Nothing went right over my head bucko, haha. I had already posted my answer before I even saw the other comment from Vivisected Engineer and I am not giving it any more thought than that. That was painful enough, let's all jump on the guy who has a different opinion than the Ridley Scott apologists. This movie sucks, Ridley has lost it. I could go through every problem this movie has but you would all come up with some kind of excuse to why nobody asks David what the hell happened to all the engineer people in the city or how a dude gets face hugged for a  couple seconds and is then chest bursted later. Or how they wear no helmets or any kind of suit whatsoever on an unknown planet where there could be any number of unknown pathogens. The list goes on and on.

Don't bother commenting back cause I won't be reading any of your comments. So save your breath, I'm nearly bored to death and fading fast. Life is too short to last long. I'm gonna go listen to some Blink and watch good movies!

Isn't it delightful that it went over his head, though? Look how much time and energy he put into dwelling on the memory of something he hates.

And, I couldn't help but feel pleased to learn that at some point he wanted to walk out of the film but continued to sit through it anyway for some reason. 

Anyhow, I rather enjoyed reading his comment because it reminded me of a few of my favorite parts of the film. David, for example is my favorite character, and I particularly like the Captain Oram chestburster scene. So that was fun, to be reminded of.

Enjoyable conversation all the way around, I'd say. Too bad Dr. Curt Connors will no longer be participating and further contemplating the object of his hatred, because I for one would really enjoy that.

Also, I think it is fun to learn that Dr. Curt Connors is very confident that faced with similar circumstances, he would make better decisions than the crew of the Covenant. Envisioning Dr. Curt Connors in similar circumstances is also an amusing thought.

This thread took a quick turn for the worse... Haha but it's nice to see the date. I almost went ahead and preordered, but I am going to wait to make my purchase until the details of the special features are released (if they are released. If not, an instore pruchase is fine and dandy). I am honestly going to find, like, the most expensive and in-depth version possible. I am hoping for a documentary similiar the what Prometheus offered, ("The Furious Gods," was the title I think) and what not.

cuponator3000 I suspect we will get milked by several versions- theatrical cut, director's cut a bit later, a repackaging of the whole series including AC, a special bundling with a Walter figure, the 10, 20 and 30 year anniversery cuts with special footage not seen in the original (that they could have released with the first blu ray) etc... We are all in for a good thorough fleecing ;)

Haha @dk, it's an expensive habit! This article, ‘Alien: Covenant’ Steelbook Revealed; 4K Blu-ray Pre-Orders Rising , gives a few details about some of the offerings. Well, one, the Steel-box set (blu-ray) that has the movie and another disc (unkown if it is DVD version or special features). The other is that repackaging of the whole series so far.

 The cover for the steelbox is amazing and if entire series cover in the article is the real one, then it is kind of cool too! It kind of shows how oddball Prometheus is compared to the Alien franchise though (consdiering it isn't an Alien/gore fest) because they put the Deacon on there haha!

But yeah, I smell a Director's cut for this one. Even though I am pretty sure that Ridley is happy with the way it turned out. He doesn't necessarily like doing them either (I think.) I can imagine it being released slightly before or after the Covenant sequel to hype that theatrical release up and maybe win back some of the detractors at the same time. Then again, it will probably be included in one of those anniversary editions like you said, dk.
