In the an undated press interview, a blond Noomi Rapace expresses her own theory on how the character of Elizabeth Shaw might have evolved in a sequel to Prometheus.

I think the Revenge of the Sith analogy may speak volumes

It was uploaded on 7th June

She lost everything, got back to trusting David again, he convinced her to join him over in the Dark side, then he screwed her over anyway?

Tdby, great comments. I feel smarter already. I'm glad we're able to identify which robots are homo and which are "normal". Thanks again for helping us understand more about the movie!

Tdby You have been using the word "homo" on a couple different threads and it seems some find it derogatory. Please clarify what you mean when using the word "homo".

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 3:51 PM

Tdby The beauty of being a "homo" robot is that if the robot wishes to be "straight" you just have to alter its programming slightly. Unfortunately for you, Tdby, the homo dna information that you have in you, even if it was dormant (because we all share the same dna pool), cannot be erased as easily, at least not in the world of today.

I would add that David's character is likely to encourage derogatory remarks from those inclined to do so. At this respect, the New Yorker's critic Richard Brody wrote "David, the older model of android, is soon revealed to be not a shipwrecked victim but a genocidal maniac rendered furious by his inability to procreate, to replicate his own kind for posterity. He’s also programmed as a high-culture showoff with a taste for nostalgic kitsch, embodying a repugnant stereotype, the high-culturally effete and seductively evil gay man". I kinda agree with that.

I just like the ambiguity of David.

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 4:22 PM

dk Yes, some of the things David does can be interpreted in more than one way. For instance, that famous kiss was more of a homage to Blade Runner, as it reprises the scene where Roy Batty kisses Tyrell in the same fashion, before killing him. However, David is deliberately characterized as having many of the traits commonly associated to homosexuals, like being hysterical (when Oram kills the neomorph), flamboyant (his Bravo! remark, his poetry reciting) and prone to unsolicited advances.

joylitt I like that direction- it can give an extra level of creepy/uneasiness to the character depending one one's own views.

I wouldn't be surprised if little bullies' latest trend now is to call "David" other children who they suspect are queer. Specially if the latter are best of the class.

dk

MemberTrilobiteJun-08-2017 4:34 PM

LOL! My name is David. I remember about a month or so ago there were some heated debates on the forum about a so called Hollywood gay agenda being pushed in AC based on the prologue.

I suppose if people said I am such a David, they would be technically correct.

Genetically speaking, that far in the future you'll be able to create children or robots with any sexual orientation you might desire!

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 4:43 PM

Probably a robot would laugh in your face if you call it homo. The true robot slur is "toaster"

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 4:59 PM

Tdby I am sorry, David had the balls to get out of the closet long time ago and your words cannot hurt him anymore haha. Anyway, if you are barely born and you are fed not with sports paraphernalia but with the most exquisite italian art, including sculptures of naked men, and on top of that your father is a dominant, scary figure, chances are you will be homosexual, and not by choice. Being good or evil is probably more flexible.

Tdby I am trying to understand the revenge motive. Did Shaw have nicer shoes or something?

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 5:17 PM

That's fine no offence taken. It's just homo is just something a teenager would say. Or even like the n word if it is not said by the right person and in the right context lol

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 5:20 PM

dk haha no dk Shaw wanted to end that lavender marriage because David was just with his hobbies and that didn't pay the rent

joylitt

MemberNeomorphJun-08-2017 5:22 PM

Tdby Cool. now I understand 19 year olds still say "homo" haha

dk

MemberTrilobiteJun-08-2017 5:30 PM

Tdby I disagree. A narccisist/psychopath would kill for those reasons- not necessarily based on sexual orientation.

Tdby In a dystopian world, you are the person I would hire to exterminate all those damn homos who kill nice little ladies. On top of that, I would have you in charge of disposing of all the "homo" fetuses that you can find onboard the Covenant. They will be neatly labeled as "homos" for your convenience and you can safely put them, like Walter, in the Biohazard disposal bin.

What is this thread?

Chris

AdminEngineerJun-09-2017 4:04 PM

Yeah, this thread has kind of derailed a bit. Let's stop with the "homo" talk, for the sake of being respectful and to remain on topic.

As per the OP, the video sadly has been removed by the user. Do you have a backup by chance?

Interesting because Rappace is describing pretty much what it appears has happened to David.

I think she had discussed a lot with RS as far as where the Plot was Going, and i think she would have had knowledge to her Character Arc when RS was working with her on the Crossing Prologue.

I had said that Dr Shaw could be a interesting Character, she had lost everything in Prometheus the only Thing she had left was her FAITH... even knowing the Engineers created us... she asks "who created them" she also is at conflict to why any such Creators at the Top of any Creation Chain would Create Life but then want to Destroy it.

So this is what she wanted to know... and if she found out that the God of her Faith is NOTHING... and the Truth is a Horrific One and these Gods are Wicked...  Then thats going to mean Shaw has NOTHING...

She has No Family, cant have Children and now her Faith is a Sham? All she has been taught about GOD and Creation is WRONG

That sure as Hell Can Mess a Person Up.... and so maybe she could be pushed to a Darker Thinking... Her Faith and Love for God in tatters is now a Hate Towards such Wicked and Evil beings.

Certainly was a Whole Dark/Sinister Plot that could Break Dr Shaw and turn her into a very different Character...

Maybe the ADF Prequel Book can delve into this for us..

BigDave Yes! Great point about how Noomi might have come up with that theory. It seems to me that Ridley has been beating around the bush as far as religious themes are concerned. He did it with Elizabeth Shaw and this time around with Oram. I think he probably wants to express ideas that the studios would simply not allow for being too controversial.

This interview was uploaded in 2014 , and yes the studios would never let " God " be shown for the true monster that he is .

Just out of curiosity, how come she was not in Covenant? I get the impression Rapace thought she would be from previous interviews, maybe she was just to busy hence one of the reasons in the story changing direction, also wonder if she will be in Awakening.

Sounds like somebody decided she could not sell tickets , expect the rock to star in the next one .

Thank you Epaphroditus, certainly seems that way! really hope she reappears in Awakening.

The Rock in an Alien movie? Hahaha I'd be tapped out.

As per the interview, I remember that. Yeah, the irony there being most people anticipating Covenant were also anticipating the fate of Shaw. So, Noomi not being cast definitely deterred a few people.
