MemberFacehuggerMay-23-2017 8:09 AMI know it's only Rotten Tomatoes but it's 68% vs 62% right now. Critic score for both is tied at 72%.

Alien3 is at 46% and personally from watching all three over the past weekend. Alien3 should be in the 60s and Prometheus and Covenant should be in the 40s; perhaps less.

MemberFacehuggerMay-23-2017 8:25 AMInteresting piece of information. That is kind of how I feel about the 2 movies, ie, for me, 'Prometheus' was better than 'Alien: Covenant' by a slight margin. 'Prometheus' would have been much improved with better acting, better character motivations and re-inserting some cut scenes. I did enjoy the big questions posed in it and I am hopeful they are not simply pushed aside to focus on David and just have creatures running around killing people in the next installment(s).

MemberFacehuggerMay-23-2017 8:40 AMI loved Prometheus. I loved all the questions I had, and the mysterious Engineers. I really hope that they explore more of the Engineers and the question of why we are here and where we came from :/

MemberDeaconMay-23-2017 9:13 AMI think BOX Office and DVD/Blu-ray Sales are more important overall... as with these sites its all about personnel opinion.
After seeing Prometheus a number of times, when i now watch Aliens each viewing this movie bores me more and more. Popcorn Flick AKA Starship Troopers done better.
My opinion on Alien 3 has gone up a bit over the last 5 years... especially other cut... while Alien has not changed.
Not saying Aliens was bad.. its very good, but i kind of get a bit bored.. its not a movie i can watch over and over... but i can with Alien.

MemberDeaconMay-23-2017 9:18 AMI will add that as far as OP.... i dont agree..
I think its not so much they liked Prometheus, the opposite i think its that they just did not like Alien Covenant... some because it had Prometheus connections, some because it never had enough Xenomorphs... some because how it messes with Alien Lore (Gestation/Growth Rates) and having the Derelict now being what 15 years old and Eggs Created by a Android.
People i have seen movie with, did not get Prometheus.. they are people who got Alien, of the 4 of them.. one just a casual fan and not a Alien Franchise fan.. they felt the movie was ok, and felt Prometheus was confusing.... the others one is a casual fan who liked Alien and Aliens... and they felt Prometheus was just plain confusing and never made no sense to linking to Alien... and Alien Covenant was better than other movies apart from Alien and ALIENS... (which was the best)... the other two are Alien fans more... and they felt Alien Covenant was actually decent... better than Alien Resurrection, but not as good as Alien and again ALIENS was the best.. One of them thought Prometheus was Rubbish and confusing and took a big Poop all over Alien Franchise... the other felt Prometheus was ok, just never linked the Alien enough and was just confusing, but interesting.

MemberFacehuggerMay-23-2017 9:56 AMVery true Dave, it could be read different ways and it could very well be simply that people just liked Covenant LESS. Either way I just thought it would be fun to put this out there. I get that RT isn't a scientific experiment or anything but it does give a pretty good - if rudimentary - overall view of how the masses felt, similar to IMDB. At the end of the day if everybody (not just the few on and off here) thought it was a A+ movie, then that would be reflected in its score (it would have 95% or more).

MemberOvomorphMay-23-2017 1:22 PMSad thing is the movie fell from 7.4 IMDB rating to a 6.9 as of today. Prometheus maintained a solid 7/10. This movie not gunna garner much attention when DVDs come out if the rating drops even further. People that usually buy random blu rays dvds pick high rated movies even on ones they don't know. Ratings will hurt the movies success long after it hit theaters if RT and IMDB are the biggest gauge for audience interests.

MemberOvomorphMay-23-2017 1:38 PMAlso, Covenant does not warrant multiple viewings and philosophical discussions like Prometheus did. IMO, Prometheus was a superior movie. I also believe it is highly underrated.

MemberFacehuggerMay-23-2017 2:34 PMAC and Prometheus is both crapola. Lindelhof sold a bill of goods to RS about changing the path of the Alien Prequels.
Jon Spaits's screenplay called Alien:Engineers would have been interesting since it takes our protagonists back to LV 426
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/23428/how-alien-engineers-differs-from-prometheus
Basically, its Shaw who has to deal with an Alien being that explodes out of the Engineer's stomach on LV426 (space jockey) and she is the one who ultimately leaves the transmission as a warning to those who receive it (Ripley finds out after the fact).

MemberOvomorphMay-24-2017 1:51 AMLoved Prometheus. Such an awesome spectacle and darkly compelling mythology worthy of Lovecraft himself. With mucho Giger to boot! So much more imaginative than just another Alien film. Covenant isn't bad, but it doesn't stand well on it's own, either, i.m.o.

MemberFacehuggerMay-24-2017 5:24 AMThat's about how I like them. Prometheus had a larger story to tell, but they both fell short of their potential. Here's hoping a final sequel gets made that ties it all together.
