I enjoyed the film for the setting and the creatures, i did like the crew but maybe thats cause i watched the "last supper" video right before the movie.
i have many problems with where the writing seems to be going.. and i feel a longer run time might have helped it as i saw there were many scenes cut or not included in the film that could have done a lot to build on plot.
after a second viewing i enjoyed the film a lot more for some reason. i think part of it was i noticed details in the setting and characters that i had missed my first viewing.
That and i knew when the creatures showed up which gave me a chance to be a geek about it and study them like i do with the other films.

That's a rambling nostalgic mess of a review. The guy can't really think.

I dont think the person really understood the movie at all, i would love to see what they made of Prometheus as i bet they would not have understood this at all..
The Flute Scene mainly was to showcase how Walter is a Straight up Robot who can not create of his own, and that David is more Human and Creative.
They moaned about the lack of Character Building and it needed a bit more but then Aliens had no real Character Building either, not as far as all the cast.... Sadly a movie usually can only concentrate on 4-5 key players, its why Alien worked well because it only had a handful of cast and a slow build up... they attempted the same slow build up with AC and indeed adding the Last Supper to the movie would have expanded this... plus the other few removed scenes (Daniels and Bronson in their New York Apartment) but these would have taken the Running time longer and so the movie suffers like Prometheus by virtue of having to trim down the running time. To fit within what FOX deemed was needed for a Theatrical Cut because no one wants to sit through 2.5 hours .... so they assume.
Its all edited and aimed at getting the more casual viewers to go and see the movies as opposed to providing the actual Alien Franchise Fans a movie... this is why it was Marketed so Badly..
It was trying to say... "LOOK ITS A ALIEN MOVIE WITH ALIENS IN WATCH ME!"

" Aliens had no real Character Building either, not as far as all the cast"
You sound like someone who has READ about ALIENS, rather than seen it.
The film had numerous characters that the audience cared about ...I have no idea what you are talking about.
And the "flute" scene doesn't need to be explained...it's a momentum stopper and it's point could be made in one line of dialogue...."You can perform, but you cannot create."
I believe AC is in for a rough next weekend showing.

Erm, well Big Dave is a moderator who has been here for over 5 years, so he knows just a bit, right?

Sorry, but if someone says ALIENS had no character development, with all due respect they must have special copy of the film. The movie spent the whole first hour getting the audience close to the cast. Sorry.

@oceantracks - I do remember what you mean, as I know Big Dave will explain what he meant.
I am just at a loss as to why we have nothing 'Engineer' in Alien-Covenant after waiting 5 years?

Amazing, this critic hits my exact opinions on this movie. If you look at the last 15 minutes of Alien and Aliens; you can see that Covenant does not compare with the two. Actually, IMO, Alien3 and Resurrection have better action scenes (e.g. flood on the ship).
