MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 6:38 PMJust as it says on the tin, what needs to be answered in the final sequel of Prometheus/Covenant?
I'm wondering that if we get enough people asking for certain answers, then Ridley Scott might put what we want on screen.

MemberNeomorphMay-21-2017 6:55 PMI really don't understand why we even have to be discussing the need of getting answers. Why do they leave so many loose ends to begin with? Movies that respect their audience may leave you with one cliffhanger that will be answered in the next installment, like The Force Awakens. Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its sequels are doing a pretty good job with continuity. What Covenant did is just a result a cynical marketing ploy that underestimates both the fans and the casual moviegoer.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 7:15 PMSo much. Why did they want to kill us 2000 years ago, what happened to stop them? Why did they create us? What is the deal with the black stuff?
To me Covenant was a disappointment, saved only by Fassbender's amazing performance X2. The plot was paper thin and essentially a retread of the original Alien movie. The CGI alien was inexcusable. they had five years and the budget to do it right. until CGI creations that interact with live action becomes realisitic, why not use an actual physical alien instead of horrible CGI? it loses all effect if not done well.
See King Kong 2005 for how to do it well. They used a live actor and supplemented it with CGI, that way the movements seems more realistic. All the hyper moments and fluid weightless movements just aren't good. So the only reason I'm looking forward to seeing it again is to appreciate Fassbender's talent on display. there is no story, no visual appeal, no answered questions from Prometheus and no new ones posed. And who is to say there will even be another sequal and if so, that they wont go an entitirely new direction and forget all that was set up in this one or the previous one?

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 7:47 PMThey never had the Budget Sadly...
Prometheus was $130M which by Inflation would have been a 2016 Budget of about $140M and we could see what a larger budget may have done with that movie...
Alien Covenant was $97-111M depend on Source... so sadly it needed a extra $50M to be fair.. so things could not be done as well.
The CGI in parts was good, considering Budget, but some shots it was a Rush Job and Some Shots i feel they could have used Practical.
I dont think we will be getting any answers really... FOX and Ridley Gauged that Fans was disappointed with Prometheus..It lacked Xenomorphs, it never answered how those Eggs was created and the Space Jockey.
Fox must have felt fans was just not buying into the Engineers and Shaw... and so they have been brushed under the carpet.
We will get answers to a degree from the ADF Book that comes out latter this year that is set prior to Alien Covenant.
Prometheus had Answers... they was just not Spoon Fed... even when Ridley had informed us of some of them... fans still wanted to see it explained in the movie...
But in reality we knew these...
1) The Space Jockey was a Engineer
2) LV-223 has experiments and Black Goo related to xeno DNA and a outbreak happened thousands of years ago.
Ridley even then directly answered the Question.... that the event happened within a few hundred years of that outbreak, the Space Jockey had left his departure with his cargo and did not get FAR... Thus left LV-223 and ended up on LV-426
But now because FOX and Ridley feel fans did not like the Engineers, we now have another Curve-ball do deal with.
The Engineers wanted us dead, because we had grown to a Race that had turned into something that was against their intentions... we started to not worship them, we started to behave in ways against GOD.... we was Rebellious and if not stopped we could have become a Threat!
But as we never had any Spoon Fed Answers directly from a Engineer... it was not answered enough for some.

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 7:55 PMWhat needs to be answered...
1) Plot Hole thats LV-223... as far as this place in the Alien Time Line.... ideally this place needs to be destroyed before Alien in 2122
2) Inconsistent size of the Space Jockey...they ideally would have to bring in a Engineer or other related Race, to go and prevent LV-223 and its Bio-Weapons getting in the wrong hands.. because of what the Prometheus Mission did that then leads to David going to Paradise and unleashing Hell.
3) Need to tells David full arc... and more about the AI
4) Need some clues to how the company knew about the Organism to a degree... Special Order 937
5) Going to LV-223 they can answer these and give a few more clues to the Engineers, the Black Goo.
6) Paradise was a puzzle... surely not the Homeworld of a Advanced Seeding Species... that has been seeding life for Hundreds of Millions or years at least.... and yet Paradise had no real Engineer Ships... The whole place looked like a Place those superior beings had set up to have as the Cradle of Humanoid Civilization.... which is watched over by Engineers or beings above them...
i think they need to bring some of these back, as they realize the Damage the LV-223 Outpost has led to and must prevent anything created from this place to get into the wrong hands and to destroy the Outpost..
As making a Covenant to just abandon the place due to the risks, proved a bad idea... now that Mankind had evolved enough to reach that Place... when the Engineers must have thought.... leave us to rot 2000 years ago and we would destroy ourselves and there is no way without the Engineers help we would ever evolve way past what we was thousands of years ago.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 7:58 PMYou guys have no patience. All will be revealed I'm sure. They are prequels to tie into the original alien movies. The original alien movies didn't explain shit. We are finally getting that explanation, so chill. They wanted to kill humans Cuz humans were probably a failed creation. Maybe we learned too much, evolved, got out of control who knows. A creator doesnt need to explain why he destroys his creation. The engineers got stopped because they got attack by another species possible to stop them from kill mankind, haven't you watched prometheus. The black goo is a pathogen that destroys existing world's david engineers it and plays God.
What do you mean there is no story. It's a creation and God complex. It is a horror movie who gives a shit about the crew and their back stories. I just want to see alien's hunt them. The only character that is important is ripley. Who cares about the other.
In regards to cgi, it was fine. In the originals you never really saw the aliens. You saw their heads snarling or quick shot of the whole alien. Seeing the aliens fully In covenant scared the shit out of me cgi or not.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:32 PMThe original ALIEN movies didn't have to explain anything other than there was ferocious life form out there.
They understood that not everyone wants a philosophy lesson when they go out on Friday night and pay the bucks to be entertained.
And the last thing they want, is to watch some guy named David give a ten minute, pace-killing flute lesson.
This is a niche movie, it's for fans of "Prometheus"....not "ALIEN"...but it's not being marketed that way. So Joe Smith and his date ...who have not seen PROMETHEUS, have no idea what all this DAVID crap is, and don't care. They thought they were going to a horror thriller.
Their bad, I guess.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:35 PM" It is a horror movie who gives a shit about the crew and their back stories."
You have to be kidding. Almost every review talks about the fact that we never bond with the crew as we did in the first films...and it looks like the writer at least TRIED....the footage that didn't make the final cut has much more expository time given to at least us being able to tell one of them from the other. As it turned out we have to go by "You know, the guy with the cowboy hat" lol

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:38 PMThat is what Im saying, they don't have to explain anything. However, I think everyone was curious to know where xenomorphs came from and it happened. Let it be, I have confidence that ridley will deliver. Aliens: awakening will deliver trust me. I just hope once the sequels are done he picks up from aliens 2 not 4

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 8:41 PMI agree with the Engineers... people need to remember these beings would have viewed us to how we would view Livestock... or a Patch of Harvest/Crop... when they have many Crops and Livestock.... so we are just as insignificant to them as say Lab Chimps was in the 50's when Governments experimented on them.
as far as Ripley goes.. i think thats a Beast thats well Cooked...
I know they could bring a younger version in, but then who they gonna cast, and i know some Novels are considered Canon, that have Ripley going back to LV-426 after Alien but then she has no memory of it..... sorry thats just lazy.. if they do this on screen.
I think exploring Amanda would be interesting if they have a movie set between Alien and Aliens... but we have the Isolation games covering this.
Sadly Ripley died in Alien 3, Weaver even wanted her Character Killed off... they brought her back for Alien R but then do we accept that Ripley 8 can age and get old?
I think Blomkamps idea would have been ok... but the longer this is on hold, and may never come out... the older Weaver will get.
I am concerned we will get a Alien Sequel that takes Aliens out of Cannon and then they bring Ripley back and Digitally De-Age Miss Weaver..... well they need to do a Fantastic and Expensive job or else it will look piss poor...
And i would rather use Budget on something else... and so just have a movie set after Aliens with a way old Ripley.. and allow the Torch to be passed to a Newt..
Then again... though i am quite Happy that Ripley died in Alien 3 and we have Alien R and i dont think its wise to do a follow up to that.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:42 PMYa I wish that footage was in there too! I was disappointed and that would have been enough. Like I said though knowing how Ripley plays into everything is more important. In the originals it was all about ripley everyone else was just fodder for the aliens

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:45 PMI bet Daniel's is ripleys mother and ripleys on the covenant as one of the colonists

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 8:45 PMI think the good thing is that Ridley Scott and FOX Listened to some complaints with Prometheus and changed the movie to be more Alieny..... and it has not gone down as well as planned.
So they could take on board what may have split fans with AC, and what flaws it has..
But then what do they do... give more Prometheus Answers? This may get the more Alien fans totally disinterested.... so they logically now have to Run with the Xenomorph.
They need to stick to the Plan they have now done... but i think they would be better off having the Space Jockey being a Engineer and still having David create the Cargo

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 8:48 PMIf ridley can tie in these prequels into alien one nicely, ignore alien 3 and 4 and continue from there that would be perfect. They can eventually kill off ripley introduce Amanda, Colonial wars and may even some predator action
BigDave
MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 8:57 PMA number of Fans who i saw when watching AC... did ask about Ripley too.... they was like.. wonder if shes in the next one.
i think its a bit to much on the nose... but then if RS is doing a Star Wars ;)
Maybe yes Ripley is a 12 year old on the Covenant... who escapes.. and has her memory wiped... but ultimately this contributes to Nightmares she has after Alien... because seeing the Alien in that movie... triggers her memories in her sub-conscious... that had been locked deep away.
Then they need to leave it at that... unless they want to ret-con Alien 3 by having a older Ripley who is like nearly 70... if they do the movie within 5 years they could pass her off as a mid 50's or 60 year old... i thinking trying to use CGI could be hit or miss.... like it has done with the Xenomorph.
I think a older Ripley, who then passes the Torch onto Newt could work.... but time is not on Miss Weavers side..
I cant see another movie like this for a long time, because RS will want to cover his prequels and you cant wait ages if you have a David Robot.. because well Androids are not supposed to Age...
To be honest.. FOX have the money to have Faith and Push out TWO movies within close release to each other like how Disney did with Force Awakens then Rogue One...
But i dont think FOX has that confidence... otherwise why give Ridley Scott such a low Budget? Guardians of the Galaxy 2 had $200M Independence Day 2 had $165M, Skull Island was $185M
Can you imagine if FOX had this much Faith in RS and the Alien Franchise?
I feel Alien Covenant did not get the Budget backing it needed... but then its not as bad a let down as The Thing 2011 which really needed double its budget.. and we could see this effected a lot of Practical Work to be replaced by some disappointing CGI

MemberDeaconMay-21-2017 8:59 PM"even some predator action "
LOL i doubt that... RS is not a fan...
However.... if The Predator does well and gets a sequel that also does well... i would not rule out FOX making another AVP movie in future..
AVP could have worked if they set it in the same timeline as the Alien movies... like the Video Games and Comics.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 9:09 PMI know I was being a little over the top with alien predator action lol. I mean if ridley continues from aliens 2 they could cameo weaver and base it off Amanda searching for her mother like the game.
This is off topic but I don't know about you guys but guardians of the galaxy 2 wasn't that great. The first one was way better
