SPOILERS
SOILERS
ok here we go, it was revealed at the end of Covenant that David had bested Walter in combat and took his place at the end, to travel off to who knows where with the(2) still alive crew and the 2000 frozen colonists.
I did find it odd that he made a report to the company as Walter right at the close of the film. Im unsure of this or the reasoning, he has total control and could do whatever he wants that deep in space, so why the report to the company??
He didnt do it because of Mu/th/ur because he could just shut her down. I mean the crew shut her down for a bit so i am certain he would be capable as well. So the report seemed curious to me? why even bother ?
Well obviously his intentions are to use the 2000 colonists as test subjects or possibly turn them into eggs. Maybe the eggs we see below the derelict in the original Alien. He will need to run into Engineers again, and i hope that he does, i also hope they introduce or bring into the fold the higher power race of beings that was hinted at in multiple interviews. Make them terrifying, intelligent but LOvecraftian evil and vicious in an ancient evil kind of way.
Without running into the engineers again we have no way of getting back to LV426 and the derelict that Dallas, Kane and Lambert investigated.
One way is to run into Engineers again....BUT, i have an idea that would be a little different. Walter clearly had a protective spot for Daniels, David even hinted that he thought Walter loved her. Walter may very well love her and want to protect her above all else, but he doesn't realize that his duty and his soft spot for her is something called Love, he just does it.
Anyway Walter which was defined in the viral marketing and briefly in the Covenant can regenerate tissue and in essence heal. David did best him in combat and take his place....BUT what if he needed a longer period of time to repair himself, i mean when he got stabbed in the neck it did take a few minutes for him to recover. Whatever David did to best him obviously would be more traumatic than the stab in the neck but maybe he could recover and heal from this ], given enough time. David was unaware of this or the level of healing that Walter has.
I think it would be highly interesting to have Walter heal and either fix the crashed juggernaut or find another one. He could easily use the hologram of Shaw at the controls to interpret how to fly it, thats how David learned to do it. Who is to say that he wasnt created without knowledge of ancient languages.
David possibly didnt fix the juggernaut because he didnt really want to leave, he had a planet full of mutated life to experiment on
I feel having Walter follow in the juggernaut to wherever David and the Covenant ends up to protect or rescue Daniels would be clever. Then the interactions in the movie could be between Tennessee, Daniels, David, Davids creations, Walter, perhaps a few of the colonists they wake up. To make things even more horrific have the powerful race of beings that were hinted at show up to exact revenge or judgement on David or all of them.
Having Walter do all of this in the juggernaut to protect Daniels would be awesome! Then in the movie you could play with themes of duty, sacrifice and love, even if it comes from an AI. David could have done his evil underground where we eventually see the thousands of eggs and somehow in the climax of the movie the Juggernaut crashes on top of this and we then end up at the 1979 Alien. It would then be Walter in the chair, or perhaps Walter and the remaining humans defeat David and David tries to escape and ends up somehow in the chair as it crashes. Perhaps the higher power is capable of things we are not able to comprehend or havent seen yet at least. Lets face it these movies will not end happily before they tie into Alien 1979. It will be bleak and end sadly for our protagonists. Thats why i feel that using Walter to attempt a rescue would be iconic on the screen as well as carry some profound themes that may be used, love, duty, sacrifice, creation. Perhaps his example and effort to rescue Daniels shows David something, perhaps before his demise he understands. I think it would be cool to start off with a monologue from David and then it leads us into the story showing us what transpired from the end of the Covenant right up to the moment the being is trapped in the juggernaut chair, and then as the monologue continues at the end of the movie it is shown that David is telling his story and how he ended up in the chair to meet his demise, as the movie closes. During these final moments he may have some sort of epiphany or redemption moment but i think having Walter on a hell bent rescue mission would be one cool way start this movie and use those themes of what makes us human and them robots. I think it would be cool that Walter the more robotic Android with less emotions and feelings and without the ability to create displays love, protective instincts and sacrifice. Where as David with the far greater emotional range and ability feels not love or anything resembling this for humanity. I think this would be awesome if explored in the next moivie while they are in the midst of the grand adventure that leads us to the "chair"

MemberDeaconMay-19-2017 9:20 AMThere are some good ideas there... and who knows how we will end up.
I think the movie however has lead to a few things, some which i think cant be proven as 100%
*Walter is not capable of LOVE, only duty. But that does not mean he does not put Human needs first he very much is similar to Bishop.
*It appears the Juggernaught is out of Commission, the movie to me seems to show this is why David needed to Trap Someone with a Signal as he would be stuck on this World. The Juggernaught had been overgrown with Vegetation and Moss.
*If Walter could repair this ship, then it would have to be difficult as it seemed more out of commission than the one that crashed in Prometheus.
*It appears Paradise/Planet 4 has no ships apart from the Docking Ship but this is a mystery as to where this ship got to. And can it actually take off and leave the Planet? Because if it could then it must have either left the Planet or Crashed itself.
I do think its ideal to bring the Engineers back to explain the Space Jockey, but i do think the Xenomorph is now a Davids Creation... There are a number of ways they can bring them back for sure.
*The Scorpion Ship leaves and heads for another Engineer World, to inform them of what happened... but then how come its taken 10 years without any Engineers Back (then again same can be said about LV-223).
*There are other Engineers on LV-223 that are missed in Prometheus.
I think it was interesting the Dynamic of TWO Davids, but the Question is could they do this again? I think its unlikely the AC Walter would return unless some Engineers turned up and he managed to explain to them what happened and they all go off to Stop David.
We dont know yet for sure if David is David 8 or Walter with David 8's Mind/Emotions... its left ambiguous to whos Body David is in.
Walter has benefits over David, and the ability to repair is one of those, but i think it depends on amount of Damage Suffered and so we have to wonder how much Damage as Walter Suffered.
A thing of interest is....
These Colonists are leaving to set up a New World, with maybe no intention of ever leaving and so having a Synthetic is Important to them.... surely the Covenant Ship would have Spare Parts so that Walter could be Maintained in the Event of any Damages.
This leaves us a way for David to get his Hand Back, or indeed attempt to Re-build another Walter.

MemberDeaconMay-19-2017 9:25 AMRegarding MUTHUR David had inputted a Special Code that activated some Program and MUTHUR then acknowledge David.
And so the Walter Signing off is to go in the Ships logs so that it covers him for any potential communication with the company and other Ships and the Crew in Cryo-sleep so no one would be aware of what happened and so David can perform a complete Cover-Up.
The Problem is the Ending with Daniels... this sucked... while it was a nice Twist, and very well done... it does now mean Daniels is aware of who David is.
So there is no way he can allow her to be woken up and inform the Ships Crew or even the Company... David would now Logically have to dispose of Daniels and after seeing off Shaw in AC, i dont think it would be wise to have another Hicks/Newt with Daniels... or even have her appear in the next movie for a short time before Inevitably David would surely have to kill her.
This is all down to some Bad Writing... where it seems they have not thought how things could connect in the next movie, but we see the same as for how they handled other things in AC...

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 9:36 AMJust cancel all plans for any other movies. I do like the whole Walter thing, him rescuing Daniels would be the only way they get me back as a viewer and make up for this nonsense. That unfortunately probably won't happen. Ridley Scott has gone cuckoo, bonkers, nuts. What happened to this guy, he can't get better writers, better storytellers. Who actually thought this was a good script and was like yeah this is brilliant. Never trust in Ridley Scott, a director way past his prime I guess. I don't want to watch any movie he directs ever again. Glad he didn't end up directing Blade Runner 2049.

MemberOvomorphMay-19-2017 10:21 AMTerrible ending. And if cars in 2017 have emergency trunk openers inside the trunk, I'm pretty sure the freezing chambers would have the same ...guess we aren't supposed to think too much.
Spending two hours creating a hero and then killing her off is real stupid unless he has plans to have her show up again. Should start letter writing campaign lol

MemberOvomorphMay-19-2017 10:54 AMCorrect me if I'm wrong: Where are we now? (1) On LV-223 we have Deacon (not an "Alien Movie" Xenomorph and nothing that we have seen elsewhere in the mythology). We may have additional "Military" engineers/spacecraft that weren't identified in "Prometheus." (2) Pre-"Alien Movie" we haven't seen LV-426. (3) On the Covenant planet, we have the eggs that David refined, broken-down space-craft, and a Walter whose status is undefined. (4) On the Covenant spacecraft, we have David, face-hugger embryos, and bodies galore, including Daniels and Tennessee whose status is unknown (regardless of what David reported - he lies!). We have to get an engineers spacecraft to LV-426 with eggs. Have I left out anything "status-wise?"

MemberOvomorphMay-19-2017 11:03 AMThe only hope is that Daniels is one of the reasons the sequel will be called The Awakening..?

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 1:24 PMThat's a good point about Daniels knowing that it is David with them. Now I think that Scott, the writing team, and studio have an idea of where to go with that ending, but you guys are kind of right. At this moment, I think that it may have worked much better to have him say goodnight and then when she was asleep we get the David reveal. Setting up the tension differently and more effectively for the sequel. We'll see how they work it though.
