Neomorph's extreme mutation rate
Resurgence
MemberFacehuggerMay-11-2017 3:35 PMSo I decided to rewatch the Alien Covenant In Utero VR Experience and something surprised me when you're watching it watch the Neomorph's hands, they go from two fingers and a stub to three fingers and the beginning of a thumb to five fingers in the span of no joke, no exaggeration THREE SECONDS, so if this mutation rate is also in the Xenomorph/Protomorph then we can say that the Xenomorph can go from chestburster to Full Grown Adult in ONE hour that is ridiculously fast, to put that in perspective the Neomorph just went through around 100 generations by my estimates of breeding in only three seconds. WOW!
Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

MemberPraetorianMay-11-2017 3:58 PMOne thing as a writer that has given me many sleepless nights working, researching and pestering hubby is the insane growth rate of the assorted creatures.
They run right up to the wall of what Thermodynamics will allow.
Working out the HOW they do it, that made my brain hurt, and what the Neomorph demonstrates IS theoretically Possible...but it must have an almost 100% efficient metabolism.
It's growth inside the guy who got backbursted, his grey pallor and such, it's placental support system would have been literally sucking the life out of him. His bones would have been deteriorating fast, as well as ligaments, tendons and muscles. He'd have been in Metabolic Crisis to be sure.
I tend to go with the growth rates seen in ALIEN, as that's fast enough.

MemberOvomorphMay-11-2017 4:03 PMThe chest bursters in Covenant get to full grown in about 5 minutes by the looks of it!! Very efficient & totally ridiculous. Anyway.

MemberPraetorianMay-11-2017 4:06 PM5 minutes??
NO way. Well, not in my works anyways, I have no say in what the movies choose to do.

MemberDeaconMay-11-2017 4:09 PMWe just have to accept its via a Alien Pathogen, and so Science goes out the Window.... pretty much like how The Thing operates too... in its rapid Assimilation.
The Black Goo did evolve those Worms in between the Period the Prometheus Crew not long entered the Big Head/Mural Room, to not long after they arrived back on the Prometheus, so that transformation was equally fast.
I will not make no comments on the Xenomorph however.

MemberOvomorphMay-11-2017 6:56 PMI'm a little confused about whether we should call the alien the xenomorph or the protomorph. The alien does look different but is that just aesthetics?
