ALIEN
Bladerunner
SW ep 7
Rogue One
Serenity
IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

1- Blade Runner
2- 2001: A Space Odyssey
3- Solaris (1972)
4- Alien
5- The Thing (1982)

That's why I hate these lists- I forgot about 1982 The Thing. But, you get what you get!

BLADE RUNNER
PROMETHEUS
ALIEN
REVENGE OF THE SITH
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951)

1. Alien
2. Arrival
3. Aliens
4. 10 Cloverfield Lane
5. Terminator 2
@dk have you seen most of these movies? I LOVED Arrival, I remember getting out of the movie theater and everybody was confused on what just happened, I literally just had to explain the whole movie since I'm a nerd and looked it while watching the movie lol.

Fire_Stream21 I have seen most of the movies. I have not seen Cloverfield Lane. the thing is, as posting first, you realize what you missed after others post. Remember- these are the only sci fi movies you will be watching over and over again. I forgot Planet of the Apes too doh!

1. Alien (Director's Cut)
2. Blade Runner (The Final Cut)
3. Sunshine
4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
5. 2001 : A Space Odyssey
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

Regular Parrot, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is one of my favorites too, along with the original METROPOLIS and MOON. It was hard to choose just five films.

I would have so many honorable mentions Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Star Wars IV and V, Children of men, Matrix, District 9, Gravity, The man who fell to Earth, Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, Moon, Looper, Europa Report, Monsters, The girl with all the gifts, Embers, Starman, E.T., Close Encounters of the 3rd kind, Fantastic planet, The Night The Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, Dunne, Stalker, Brazil, Star Trek movies that are not New Generation and so many more

joylitt Lots of good stuff. Not easy to boil it down to five. That is one reason why I chose They Live- it represents a great idea but has some comedic cheese to it while 2001 is heavy duty.

Great Post
Alien
Blade Runner
The Matrix
Aliens
Terminator 2
Easy picks as all 5 of these films have a magical longevity quality, perfect for repeated watches on a desert island

This list is somewhat different from my "top 5 favorite sci fi films" because if I'm going to be stuck on an island, I'm going to try to go for variety...
Favorite of all time: 2001 A Space Odyssey
Horror: Alien
Comedy: Back to the Future
Action Packed: Star Wars
Heartwarming: E.T.
I considered 'Aliens' for "action packed" but figured I'd kick myself at some point while on the island for bringing 2 Alien films.
Other honorable mentions: A Clockwork Orange, Bladerunner, Planet of the Apes, The Matrix, Terminator, Total Recall, Jurassic Park

Aliens,BladeRunner,Alien,The Thing, and Children of Men.I wanted to do Alien all the way through Prometheus but that would have been predictable lol.And that list there isn't definitive either. The top 3 are for sure though
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

I agree with Dirtwolf- for the long haul there should be a balance of serious vs light. I just don't like sappy heart felt stuff in sci fi personally. I forgot Pitch Black too doh!

I can really go on but then we'd be here all night!Lol
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

A ClockWork Orange Planet Of the Apes Predator RoboCop Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan(Better than The Empire Strikes back in my opinion)
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

Is Clockwork sci fi though? I have the deluxe edition on BR- but I don't see how it is sci fi- please clarify.

Interesting topic (Modern-SciFy):
1-Legend
2-Alien
3-BladeRunner
4-2001
5-StarTrek The Motion Picture

I consider A ClockWork Orange due it being able depiction of a dystopian future. Not the most sci fi movie but it's enough in my opinion
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

@dk
I agree. For more serious, spacefaring, or 'sciency' sci fi movies, I definitely prefer them a certain way - usually on the darker side. But for less serious sci fi movies I'm a little more open. I just thought E.T. would be nice in this situation :)

DirtWolf Yeah, I guess Weird Science and Ghost Busters could be thrown into the mix.
ninXeno426 Clockwork- yes, a dystopian world and a theme of mind control- indeed very sci fi.

1.alien
2.startrek first contact
3.return of the Jedi
4.the thing
5.the matrix...only the first one unfortunately.
But yes 2001 is amazing just hard to watch over and over. Blade runner....terminator...many of the greats are just as good too...just depends on your mood I reckon with which one you want to watch.
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D
