MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 6:31 PMWhen Ridley Scott dropped the Awakening title, reports say things went something like this:
Scott was asked what the timeline would be for the prequels.
Scott says:
“It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant….[it’s] fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way….”
"During this part of the interview, Alien: Covenant star Katherine Waterston interrupted Ridley Scott because she thought he was giving too much away."
This very much seems like Scott gave away that Covenant is actually the final film before Alien and that there is some importance either to the colonists or to the place where the ship goes (LV-426?)
If this is the case, that would mean that the several other Alien films Scott has alluded to making after Awakening will not be part of the prequels to Alien.
Thoughts?

MemberFacehuggerApr-27-2017 6:55 PMIf Covenant is a direct prequel to Alien, it has to satisfy one question in my mind. Who are the eggs on LV426? I choose my words carefully here. I’ll wait to see Covenant before I comment any further.

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 7:00 PMthis is part of my curiousity when I said:
"and that there is some importance either to the colonists or to the place where the ship goes (LV-426?)"
I am wondering if Ridley was making a comment about what will become of the colonists in hypersleep

MemberFacehuggerApr-27-2017 7:10 PMQES This is the big nail biting question that I cannot wait to see how it is answered. I can see a couple of possibilities, and I have waited a long time for what might get answered. I personally would like Covenant to go in the direction of using covenant as a hint of what happened on LV426 rather than a direct answer. I think you will understand what I mean by this.

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 7:15 PMIf you mean I would understand the value of hints verses direct answers in general then yes I do and completely understand.
If you are saying you think I will understand what you are getting at about the colonists, I do not understand but sense some hesitance from you on saying anything more so I won't push it.

Is the referring to the Covenant ship?
If so, this could explain why James Franco's role is so diminished in this film despite seeming like a top-billed cast. Something happens with the covenant ship on the way to Paradise that features heavily in Awakening.
Something that ends with his character being sickly for Alien: Covenant. The problem with this is that if Awakening features the Covenant, who survives Awakening is a foregone conclusion.

MemberFacehuggerApr-27-2017 9:47 PMI'm wondering if the 2000 colonists that are on board, are the eggs we see in Alien, but, how?
So many questionssss!

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 9:55 PMThe latest news as far I know that Ridley is thinking to bring again to Ripley to the screen, so i m not very sure about this topic.
News:
Ridley Scott isn't ruling out Sigourney Weaver playing Ellen Ripley in his planned Alien: Covenant sequels, via the magic of CGI de-aging.

MemberFacehuggerApr-27-2017 10:19 PMIf the covenant colonists end up on lv426 and they get turned into eggs, then that means they are either hijacked by someone who does this on the colonization planet to them, or engineers come after them and do it.

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 10:40 PMI did read the stuff about Weaver but I'd assume he would use her in the movies he's planning that come after Alien. This thread is about the movies he will be doing that lead into Alien.

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 10:43 PMyes, I'm curious if we'll see a Derelict show up at the end of AC and capture the Covenant ship. Not sure how I'd feel about that, though I can't help but wonder

MemberChestbursterApr-27-2017 11:43 PMMy guess is that Ridley and Fox made a decision based on the negative reaction to Prometheus, to jump a movie forward so that they could shower people with creatures, facehuggers, xenos, blood, etc.
In addition to reeling those people back in, it is known that knowledge gaps create intrigue. Covenant will leave people wondering, "what happened? How did we get to this point." Creating this feeling in viewers would make them more likely to take interest in a Prometheus sequel that doesn't deal much with xenos.
Not sure if this was the reasoning but I wouldn't be surprised.

MemberTrilobiteApr-27-2017 11:49 PMQueenElizabethShaw- Agree. I think after AC has tons of creatures, violence and death then viewers will be over it and ready to maybe get into the more thoughtful themes Prometheus had but written better.
In practice, it seems like Awakening might be a prequel to a prequel to Alien. At any rate, I will follow it and take it in.

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 6:10 AMI thought the book coming out after the covenant was about the time period between Prometheus and covenant?
QueenElizabethShaw
MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 7:09 AMYes as far as I know, that's correct. I can only assume that the book is going to be the blue print for Awakening, but who knows?
