Relevance of these shots?

During the New Trailer we here the "Country Roads, take me Home" song.

This shot we see to the right a Record Player that appears to be playing this tune, and then the next shot is the Lake and what appears to be something beneath the Water as the Sound goes Muffled.

We see the shot through the Window overlooks the Landscape of Paradise, and the Question is then...

Is this actually the Drop Ship?

Or indeed was their another Ship Prior to the Covenant, this would certainly answer how David has different clothes from what he had at the end of Prometheus and also maybe where he obtained the Paper and Writing Material as well as Lighting for his Work-shop.

Really interesting theory here, I personally love the idea of Covenant not being the first drop ship to land on Paradise.

What's the story, MUTHUR?

Indeed i think its a very important and overlooked clue, much like the other thread i did regarding the Baby Humanoid Skulls in Davids Work Shop.

The window in this image above does not come from the Covenant Drop Ship or the Life Boat from Prometheus.

And it does not appear to part of the other Drop Ship at the end of the 2nd Trailer that has the purpose of taking down all the Terra-forming equipment and Modules.

So where is this ship, how did it get there and when and what purpose does it have?

Did Humans reach that System prior to the Covenant and David/Shaw or after David/Shaw but prior to the Covenant?

Maybe Weyland/David had all along secretly known of Paradise, and that that was going to be their ultimate destination, so that supply preparations were underway well before the events of Prometheus, and David 8, in his own manipulative way, steered the party to end up going from LV-223 to "Paradise" by "whatever means necessary".

BigDave

MemberDeaconApr-05-2017 8:07 AM

Indeed does look like the ISS ;)

I cant rule out of its part of the Covenant Main ship or a Module that is used as a living compartment as it appears the Covenant will have many such Modules that get connected together.

But i think its strange how they show this compartment that has notes and so paper and pens in it and the Record Player, that appears to be accompanied by the same "Take me Home" Song that Shaw is humming/singing to when at the controls of the Juggernaut.

I do think we need to be careful however and remember the Trailers can have sounds added to them at certain points where in the movie these sounds are not there.  A good Example is the very end of the 10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer when the Ship appears behind the House... the Scream did not happen at this point in the movie.

So indeed Shaw will most likely Hum/Sing to that Tune but it does not have to be exactly at that point in the trailer.... likewise maybe that Module does not play that Track on the Record Player too.

But i think its more than coincidence how there is this Record Player and why Shaw would just pick that song at random.

And so again its a Big Mystery as to where this Shot comes into play.. surely its not a added Shot that will not be in the movie at all... If so then surely it has to be a Shot from a Event Prior to Alien Covenant or After.

David 8's distress signal to the humans that diverted the Covenant to Paradise

"Or indeed was their another Ship Prior to the Covenant, this would certainly answer how David has different clothes from what he had at the end of Prometheus and also maybe where he obtained the Paper and Writing Material as well as Lighting for his Work-shop."

I think you are correct in the significance of the room with the record player.

I believe this is recovered human technology that David 8 used to send the signal that diverted the Covenant ship to Paradise. He most likely included the John Denver song in his message to the humans.

Shaw in the hologram was humming the same song playing on the record player...a song more than a century old at her point.

I don't think this window room is on the Covenant mother ship nor the drop ship shown for the initial touch down on Paradise.

We may be looking at the signal beacon set up by David 8 to lure the humans to Paradise in the room with the red record.

well here is my take on it but I hope it is another drop ship we don't know about ( makes the story that much better )

that window scene is part of the building that shows the scene of david and weyland ( it kinda has the same background tone ) . Maybe it was Davids room and that was music he played and took notes while looking out that window.  Fast forward to David and Shaw on Paradise. David starts to sing that song ( remembering when he was Home ) Shaw catches the tune starts to sing it as well. The hologram scene, Shaw maybe singing that in her attempt to go back to earth but something happens that causes the juggernaut to crash.

Dave, I agree with you, these shots are important, and I think you are right regarding the location, this is the planet the Covenant visits in the movie.

Moreover, this building/shelter/dropship is in the wheat field! Look at the lower part of the window, it is easy to see that some wheatears are moving outside the window.

It means that it cannot be the exploding dropship since that dropship is close to the water and there are no plants around it. Plus this shot shows grass here not wheat:

Added to this, I think this room is part of a lifepod/lifeboat. If there is a movie before Alien - Covenant, anything could happen.

The window shot has an extra detail: if you look at the image on the right carefully, you can discover a change in light/shadow close to the entrance/door of another room(?) - somebody is leaving or coming.

(Something is coming... ha-ha, it's for Chris...)

Perhaps David upgraded the 'flute ignition' on the Juggernaut to keyless-John-Denver ignition ;)

I think you're spot on BigDave. The room, record player, choice of song all have significance I'm thinking. Also, the fact that the hashtag EMOHEMEKAT is used suggests the song is more than random. In another thread I mentioned I recorded the audio from the take me home clip and played it backwards. It does sound a lot like a female mutters something and the says 'please'. I had wondered if they've put audio of Shaw pleading in the clip, which you can hear if played backwards. Surely Take me home backwards as the hashtag has some significance? Who knows though.

In one of the trailers You can hear Daniels saying "what happend here". Could i be that the Covenant crew finds a deserted human spaceship(with the Window) and that's where that audio is from?

Hey all I'm a long time lurker and thought I'd join in at last... after seeing this thread it reminded me about a discussion a while back here about a pic of Ridley with what looked like an engineer and a random space suited person next to an SJ chair on a Juggernaut. That pic was blurred and out of focus but it defo 'looks like' an engineer and a suited figure sitting down.

I wonder if that view of Paradise from the ship with the record playing could belong to the mysterious suited figure in the Ridley Juggernaut pic? Just a potential thought. Or maybe the ship is not a ship on Paradise but a dwelling of some kind on earth that belongs to a key Covenant crew member/Shaw or some connection to them?

Except that backmasking and subliminal messages have been disproven if a subliminal message is implied.

@ Shasta cyclone... lol I think your right about the cameraman. I'm seeing things for sure.

I do remember reading somewhere, maybe from a set report about Daniels' apartment featuring in the film. Could the place where the record is playing be it I wonder. On the trailer at the 10/11 second mark it cuts to a wide frame of the lake. There seems to be a small structure of some kind close to the water. I can't make it out clearly but maybe a peer or jetty for a boat I'd guess. If there was a paradise style landscape shown from a scene on earth I'm not sure why they'd do that. Thematic contrast or something.

@Shasta cyclone

Indeed it could be a Flash Back, but i do think the background through the Window is relevant to the next shot which is the Top Image in this selection of images.

The view from the Window would be in the direction of the Arrows Aproximately

However....  The Top and Bottom Shot seem to be similar areas as Highlighted A  but the middle two shots seem different and they are Highlighted B

Then again as far as the Movie goes they could use the same location or abouts for a intended TWO different locations.

A few things come to mind with the shots in the OT

1) This Shot appears to not be the Drop Ship, because the Drop Ship lacks those Windows and the 2nd shot of something submerged under the Waters, is in no way the remains of the Blown up Drop Ship.

2) Surely the Take me Home Song is not placed at the same time as these shots for a Red Herring or Coincidence.

3) It appears Shaw is humming that same Tune and while this sound may not be exactly hummed at this point in the movie, we can assume Shaw has sang/hummed it at some point and so its more than coincidence that the record player was playing the same song.

So for me the only explanation would be that there was some kind of Module/Ship on Paradise Prior to the Covenant, as it cant be after due to the lack of wreckage.

The only way it could be after would be if Shaw is humming that sound after the events of Alien Covenant, but we maybe can assume this sound is heard by the Covenant Crew when they enter the Juggernaught and potentially maybe its a Sound/Tune they detected on the Signal they picked up that leads them to head to Paradise.

@Space Cadet

The Shot with Ridley Scott is from Prometheus and features the Engineer and a Cameraman.

Your second point about Daniels Apartment could be a potential reason for this shot, if she has some Flash Back Scenes, this would be a Good Explanation.  But the back drop from the Window does look a bit like back drop they shot the landing scenes from in Alien Covenant (Paradise).

Would Ridley use a shot of Daniels Apartment on Earth that has the same view?  Who knows as the whole Weyland and David Scene does have the back drop similar to the opening Scene of Prometheus.

So indeed the options that are likely are.

1) Daniels Apartment view in a Flash Back (we have to accept its coincidence its similar to the setting of the Drop Ship landing). Oh and coincidence of the same Song.

2) Its a previous Ship, that is either in another location on Paradise despite the coincidence of similar back drop, or a previous ship that has left that area somehow.

OR.......

3) A Module from the Drop Ship, that has fallen off the Rescue Drop Ship and landed on the surface and then sank into the Water.

As i dont think it would be a Module dropped and then Daniels makes it her home, as this would mean she heads back to the Surface after the Encounter with the Xenomorph on the ship. Especially since the second Shot we hear the sound gets muffled which would happen if the Module was now under water.

So i think option 3 is the best explanation but the only puzzle is the lack of wreckage from the Blown Up Drop Ship which should be evident in the 2nd shot of the OT.

Unless we are to assume the wreckage like the Module is now under water?

BigDave, I read that Alien: Covenant took place on Paradise and the Covenant ship.

Do you believe the "We are Walter" campaign is part of Alien: Awakening and not part of Alien: Covenant?

I do believe that the room you mention above with the record player is from human technology David 8 captured during the ten years before the events of Alien: Covenant. It seem to fit that the Walter origin sequence would mesh with David 8 and Shaw in Alien: Awakening with what I read about the events included in Alien: Covenant.

Hmmm, could just be the dropship window when they first land and havent been infected yet.

shaw might be humming it to operate the juggernaut, and if she were mutating because of the trilobite experience, she might lose control of the juggernaut causing the crash.

for me, alien awakening could only be a paradise lost type story, where david and shaw (adam and eve) get corrupted by someone (super engineer?) and shaw wants to be mutated to become a higher life form having been seduced by the knowledge of the (evil?) engineers. Apart from that i think its hard to come up with a two hour film on david and shaw on a juggernaut chewing the cud.

David knew about Paradise and probably told Weyland about it while he was still asleep. "Try harder", perhaps David/Weyland at that time managed to get some other human ship to go investigate that Paradise planet.

Alien: Awakening could be the best road trip story in the history of film. I know that Ridley Scott directed Thelma and Louise too but he may out do his best road trip picture.

David 8 in two parts and a lonely Dr. Elizabeth Shaw leaving LV-223 in a juggernaut....after ten years the Covenant crew shows up to Paradise and gets chewed up by David 8's creations...what in the flim flam happened during the decade road trip to Paradise in preparation to end humanity?

Dr. Shaw was obviously involved a little if she is showing up on the hologram playback.

Who knows..

Like i mentioned previously the most Logical Reason would be if when Tennessee came to rescue Daniels the Loader had a Module Set up and it dropped onto the surface.

And maybe at the end of the Movie David discovers this and enters and witnesses the same Song that Shaw was singing to when maybe She wanted to Go home.... a bit of a Irony for David as now he is Stranded.

But then there are flaws to this, because we can see maybe it sank or so the other shot latter when the Music gets muffled seems to indicate and we see no evidence of the wreckage of the Drop Ship that Daniels and Co used that Farris blows up.

If there was some Human Technology obtained from this room, be it on a Ship or not...  it would explain how David has different clothes to what he had at the end of Prometheus and how he obtained the Flair Gun, and how also maybe he dyed his hair... how his work shop seemed to had been lighted up by Human Lamps/Bulbs.

But maybe these are just a oversight made by Ridley and Fox?

@Babylonxeno

I have studied the Drop Ship, and it appears to have no such windows, the Lifeboat in Prometheus too (but how would David and Shaw take that with them anyway).

Also why would the Drop Ship need to have that Record Player.

So i think we have to wander is this Daniels Home from a Flash Back Scene, but why the Coincidence that the view is similar to the views around where the Drop Ship landed on Paradise and also the latter shot where something seems sunken under the water would not fit this if it was Daniels Home on Earth.

So its a very very interesting and overlooked image, which is why i made a few Topics based on purely easy to overlook images. Such as this Topic, and the one about what destroyed the Engineers as far as the Burnt Bodies and Golden Device on the Top of the Cathedral Dome and also the one i made as far as the Basis for Davids Experiments where i highlight the shot that has 4 Humanoid Baby Skulls.

All details that could Mean Something we could Miss, but also could all be oversights.

I do however agree about Awakening and that Shaw and something else could be the New Adam and Eve.

@Apex_Predator

Indeed but i would think Weyland if he knew this, would ask David to awaken him once he knows how far and how long it would take to get to Paradise.

But then i guess as David found a alive Engineer, Weyland may as well just take his chances and find what he wants off this One being, rather than turning up at their Home-world facing many more of them.

This kind of plays into Shaw's Answers too, if indeed they discover the Ship they take has a Engineer on board, then surely Shaw would want her Answers off them, rather than arrive at the World of these Hostile Humanoids.

And if there is one on the Juggernaught and David and Shaw manage to speak to it, with maybe a Bargaining Tool (Urn) they may get the Answers they want prior to getting to Paradise, which could impact David and Shaws plans for when they arrive.

From the track listing released here yesterday, it looks like the view from a Cabin On The Lake.

Probably David's temporary abode, or holiday home, when being surrounded by the civilization he wiped out starts to get a bit morbid.

Probably created by scavenging and salvaging random stuff he finds littered about.

Bare in mind the now dead civilization had the ability to build (the citadel/temple proves this) so having a window available isn't too far of a stretch.

Just my 2 cents.

Take care folks.

@Ranting Xeno

Indeed but i seem to only see the beings on Paradise as being stuck a bit behind the times Technologically wise.

Apart from the Cathedral Dome, but this could be like the Ancient Astronaut theories where say the Great Pyramid of Giza was a Ancient Piece of Technology that the Alien Gods used, and that Mankind who served lacked any Technology.

And the LV-223 Engineers Technology seemed far to Advanced, and i guess the big Question is where does David Salvage the Record Player?

A only other Logical Explanation would be this arrived on Paradise before the Covenant, maybe before David arrived, could it be a deep Space Craft that the Engineers picked up and brought back to Study?

But by how the Engineers seem to have reacted in the one report, it seems they are not used to seeing Ships turn up.

Ingeniero did have a theory for other Human Technology that we see in the Trailers, as being maybe David on his travels went to Human Outposts to gain some Technology and Bits and Pieces...  That would make sense to explain how he may have obtained these things.

But i find it a bit odd why he would do that, surely he would just head right to Paradise.
