With the release of the new poster, I noticed that there are engineers that are being attacked by an entire hive of Xenomorphs!
There is also what appears to be a Queens crest at the top of the poster behind the center alien.
let me know what you think ;)
Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

Indeed, tough not so sure it really is meant to be the queens crest. To me it resembles how the mural in Prometheus looked.
"Kane's son"

I am sure there is some merit to it. As I stated earlier, the poster has a feel of a "Vision of Hell" probably close to Virgil's "Aeneid".
It suggest that the Engineers were naughty and are being "punished" for some evil or dark work they were undertaking. Most likely the black goo, genetic manipulation, or even watching Lifetime TV HD....
My speculation is that the Engineers themselves are creations of an even higher race of beings. I think this has to do a lot with rebellion and consequences. I strongly suspect that Aliens are not the only enemy out there for the Engineers.
Alien Covenant will answer some questions but will leave many more. Ridley is setting this franchise up to be his "Piece de Resistance" his crowning glory. If he lives long enough to see it, by time we get to "Alien", we will have had quite a story..

Dan't forget to look at the face huggers latching themselves to engineer faces ;)
Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

suwhited, once a civilization reaches the level where they have obtained the Lifetime TV HD capability, an alarm goes off in the Engineer pyramid to wake them up to destroy said civilization.

I love your jokes Ingeniero, keep up the good work.
On a more serious note: it does look like the vision of hell, I would love to see how it plays out in the movie.
Also note that there will most likely be more than one xenomorph, that's for sure ;)
Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

@Ingeniero
If only that same alarm went off for societies that that consider talentless bimbos like Kim Kardashian a celebrity...id also like to have alarm settings for the Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Nikki Minaj, Clintons, Obama, reality Tv, & snowflakes..lol
All joking aside it looks like hell, but i do not think Ridley will include the Queen as it is not his creation, i feel he will stick with mutation as a key ingredient for the aliens existence, if all you need is a queen then all of the mystery is gone from a biological standpoint....then there would be no need for these movies, it'd be like "oh hey you got a queen" then you are gonna have aliens, no mystery ...so i for one hope im right

@suwhited
"My speculation is that the Engineers themselves are creations of an even higher race of beings. I think this has to do a lot with rebellion and consequences. I strongly suspect that Aliens are not the only enemy out there for the Engineers"
I am on board for this as well, i feel this would be awesome, some ancient controlling power that has awoken to intervene due to the Engineers or what David has been doing on Paradise. They come in and intend to wipe everything out, hopefully in some terrifying way that will introduce new horrors to the franchise while our humans still have to deal with the familiar terrors as well as this newly awoken race of creators or ancient beings

Thank you Movie fan, likewise...good topic.
Grinning & Dropping Linen, we might just have to be happy with the capability of the Engineer according to Ridley Scott.
That being said, if I could contribute writing to the Engineer anthology, then I would write exactly what you wrote in your "If only that same alarm went off" paragraph and send the Engineers in for a black goo surgical strike on the social blight on Earth you describe.
Twice, same target.

And I don't want to make the Canadians mad regarding attacking Justin Bieber with black goo but I'd like to argue that he may be this planet's best candidate for a black goo treatment (as an individual). Reality TV (as a group) has now become the attack necessity entity that Lifetime TV HD is. So, black goo that bunch too.

Since the mural was such a central piece of Prometheus and debated so many times in this forum over the years, I have a theory! The mural does resemble the mural in the temple, and could be similiar showing the outcome of screwing with the birth of the xeno? Maybe I am explaining this terribly...but Maybe this is an evolved version of the mural in Prometheus showing how things got out of hand? Can you dig? :)

Also! On the original mural, you can see 2 Engineers(presumably) being facehugged just like this mural.

@Davefried81
I dig...and see what you are saying about both murals, its like an artistic representation of the punishment for the sins of meddling with this organism or the black goo

@Grinning and Dropping Linen @Ingeniero Where do I vote for one of you as Minister of the Black Goo Usage and Administration?
But talking about the poster - I don't know, I think it's just the angle maybe, but the central creature doesn't seems to me neither the protomorph or the xenomorph. And it's different from the rest of the aliens shown in this picture (note the teeth and the details at the side of the head)... As someone pointed out, maybe the 'scene' in the poster is not some specific event, but just a symbolic expression of the alien terror. All I know is that it's awesome.
What an atmosphere Sir Ridley is already leading us to...

"This mighty city shows the wonders of my hand."

suwhited I also think that the engineers (or a faction of the engineers) were up to some forbidden recipe cooking that, how should I put it, left a rather bad taste in their mouths.
Just ask Mr. Sacrificial Albino from the beginning of Prometheus. Oh wait he died because his McDonald's Happy Meal box came with a "Dissolve 'n' DNA" sauce.

Heh Heh Heh... I like your joke Neomorph :)
on a more serious note: the engineers could have been experimenting on genetics, could be how eggs were made.
Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

"evolved version of the mural in Prometheus showing how things got out of hand?"
Davefried81, "out of hand", may be the point of the black goo. The mural from the room in Prometheus shows the process (orderly, top to bottom) and the movie poster shows the process "out of hand" and up and running (pandemonium).
Pandemonium: Historical usage; "place of all demons", Milton's Paradise Lost.

Thank you Davefried81. Good connection on the murals.

@ Grinning & Ingeniero - we're on the same page regarding the idiot meter.

@SteveRogers1973
I just wish there were more of us on this page lol

@Grinning & Dropping Linen, @suwhited, i agree too that the engineers were created by a higher being(s) also, shaw says to holloway "but who created them?" so there is a clue there.
The LV-223 engineers are a rebel faction that are going against their creator by messing around with creating black goo abominations as weapons? I believe there is a war going on between the two factions(enlil and enki?) if the 223 engineers win then the destruction would be enormous, they want control of everything, you just have to look how everything is structured in society, when is it not about control?

@Ingeniero, yes a new topic, "Overpaid Unintelligent Celebrities you would like to see Facehugged".
hahaha what a hoot it would be!

I thought of the Queen head cap too, when I saw the top edge of the poster. I don't think Ridley would include a Queen though.

I can see how people may see the Queen but to me i see the Trilobite more and attached to the Background like Hive, and one of its Tentacles is attacking a Engineer.
Ridley and Lindeloff did tease the Trilobite to be the Ancestor of the Xenomorph, the Mural has a Deacon which has the Queens Carapace above it, in a way that we can make out a Queen Deacon or normal Deacon as it can appear as either.
The Mural we have to assume was not a Prophecy but a Ancient Event... if we assume this then indeed Trilobites existed before.
Shaws Trilobite would not be a One Off Event, if in the Ancient Past Engineers had Females which Alien Covenant shows us.
If we assume David is to Re-create or Create the Xenomorph, then we have to consider what starting point does he have?
And he has Shaw and you would be sure he would have wanted to know the Outcome of her Trilobite... and so this could be a Experiment he would want to Re-create be it with Shaw or any Female Engineers he may find.

There will be no hive as we know it from Aliens or the comic books in covenant.
Nor a queen. This picture is most likely another mural even displayed in some engineer architecture somewhere around on paradise.
The connections with the paintings and artwork of biblical vision of the lost paradise, fallen angels, path from heaven to hell / pandemonium etc that others have discussed do correlate very well tho.

There might be a hive, we just have to wait for the movie.
Obsession is a Power, not a Curse ;)

Pandemonium
Is also the name given to the City in Hell that holds the Palace of Satan and where he Rules Hell from.
If the movie shows us that Paradise had became the Place of the Fallen Engineers then indeed Paradise could had been turned into Pandemonium
