MemberChestbursterMar-08-2017 8:47 AMOK, I've owned this game since its release. However, I've tried playing it over and over and over and over, realizing its accolades and loving the "Alien" theme, BUT, to me, the gameplay is one of the most boring games that I've ever found. I HATE "Stealth" games. Despise them. And that seems to be all that this game is. I would LOVE to go through it, but I can't see wasting all my time on something I'm not enjoying. In fact, sometimes the motion makes me nauseated.
So, is this something I should stick with, like a slow burn movie? Is there going to be a payoff worth all the early suffering and unenjoyable gameplay? Can anyone who has done the end game give me encouragement while not giving anything away?
thanks!

MemberChestbursterMar-08-2017 8:58 AMI stopped reading at "I hate stealth games"
Not much to gain from the game if that's the case, unfortunately. Alien Isolation was never meant to be a CoD style game and I'm extremely grateful for that.
For me it's all about the sneaky gameplay and the atmosphere, the constant fear and stress that the slightest mistake equals death until you get the flamethrower (with limited supplies of fuel anyway)

MemberFacehuggerMar-08-2017 9:17 AMI'm gonna have to agree with Fifield on that one. Alien Isolation is one of the best stealth games ever. This won't help you enjoy it if you hate stealth games.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberChestbursterMar-08-2017 9:51 AMHaha yeah if you hate stealth games, then this is a no go. There is a long section in which you can basically go into your preferred shoot 'em up mode, but ammo, level design, etc. still limit it. I suggest spending a night playing it in the dark with some good head phones and really try to get into the "Alien" mindset. Otherwise, abandon ship

MemberTrilobiteMar-08-2017 3:10 PMYou can treat it like an action game but it will be more frustrating since making noise usually results in death. You might like Colonial Marines.

MemberFacehuggerMar-08-2017 3:19 PMI don't have the isolation game but I LOOOOOOVED Dead space. Anything like that?
dk
MemberTrilobiteMar-08-2017 3:22 PMDead Space 1 and 2 are amazing but not stealthy like Isolation. The overall vibe and aesthetic is pretty similar though.

MemberChestbursterMar-08-2017 3:24 PMThanks all.
Anyone want a used copy of Alien:Isolation? Unplayed, lol?

MemberFacehuggerMar-08-2017 3:27 PM@dk - ok, thanks. And DS 1&2 were the best. 3 was just so so.
dk
MemberTrilobiteMar-08-2017 3:31 PMI think 3 jumped the shark- I beat it but don't even remember much about it since I just wanted it to be over with. It had its moments though to be fair.

MemberFacehuggerMar-08-2017 7:42 PMI reckon it is a good survival horror game, i liked the overall look and feel of the game that futuristic low tech look portrayed in the first alien film, the sounds and elevated heart rate when the alien was hunting you while too afraid to come out of your hiding spot when the xeno stomped away to another part of the station!
dk
MemberTrilobiteMar-08-2017 8:41 PMAll I can say is that the developer nailed it and players will likely like or hate it.

MemberFacehuggerMar-09-2017 5:46 PM@dk, exactly, after that mess called Colonial Marines, Isolation is what CM wished it would have been.

Like you, Starlogger, I also despise stealth games. I gave Alien: Isolation a shot based on branding alone and was only disappointed with it being stealth based.
That said, there are VR compatibility hacks for the PC version (if you have access to a Rift). There is also talk coming from the developer regarding a possible VR release of A:I (It would be theoretically easy, as the code is actually in the game, it just isn't enabled).
I will add that even with the current PC VR compatibility hack, head motion tracking is kind of screwy.
I will say, in my humble opinion, if the VR is a possibility, then It is totally worth playing through...Absolutely terrifying. Makes it very hard to remember you are in a stealth based game.
I recommend it to anyone that doesn't have health issues, as it really, honest to Xeno, feels way more intense in VR.

MemberChestbursterMar-10-2017 6:46 AM@Nycro TY for your input. I've been holding out for a 2nd gen VR Vive or Oculus, as I'm not happy with either of them right now. However, if they activate VR for A:I, I might just have to take the immediate plunge! That would be intense!

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2017 6:56 AMI also have the game but haven't been able to get through much of it, although my reason has nothing to do with the stealth aspect of the game... I actually like that.
For me, the deal breaker seems to be that it's a 1st person view game. For some reason I've never been able to play 1st person games because they make me nauseous. I much prefer 3rd person games.
So while I like the atmosphere of this game, I just can't play it for longer than 15 to 20 minutes. I wish they would either have an option for 1st or 3rd person view... or remake the game in 3rd person.

MemberChestbursterMar-10-2017 7:31 AM@Cmutt glad it's not just me. That's my main problem as well, i can only play it in 20-30 minute (if I'm lucky) sessions, and the save game feature is so underdeveloped that it is more than frustrating.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2017 9:30 AMAlien Isolation is a superb game, but one must realize up front it's a true survival horror game which is less action set pieces and more hiding to survive with minimal weapon use..etc... I absolutely loved it and played and finished it and really want a sequel.
Starlogger
MemberChestbursterMar-10-2017 10:25 AM@peterweyland It does seem to be very horrifying and well done artistically, so yes, even though I personally don't enjoy the game mechanics, I hope there is a sequel as well. As successful as it has been, I would be shocked if there wasn't one.
