Although im a huge fan of the alien franchise, I have never actually read any of the novels or books.

Which ones are worth me buying?

Hello Assimilated_Xenomorph.I haven't read to many, but some i would recommend are The Fire and Stone series.AVP:Prey is also quite good.Aliens Earth Hive,Nighmare Asylum.and The Female are a trilogy. They're both in novel and comic form.

That would be the extant of what I've read. For comics there's plenty of sites online where you can read for free. Some books i hear come highly recommended are Out of the Shadows,Sea of Sorrow, and River of Pain.I guess they span a lot of the time between Alien and Aliens, and are official canon.

Old stuff

The original Nicks & Newt trilogy Book 1, Book 2 and Earth War (before they got changed to Wilks and Billie).  Earth War can be a struggle but worth it to finish the story off.

Labyrinth

Berserker

AvP (original series)

Salvation

Sacrifice

Alchemy

Stronghold

New stuff

Anything from Fire & Stone onwards

I wasn't that fussed about Newt's Tale or Steel Egg.  Or Original Sin for that matter.  The latter is interesting for a glimpse of what the further adventures of the good ship Betty might look like, but the story didn't really do it for me.

Okay.Thanks S.M.

I'm enjoying "Alien: out of the shadows". It appears to be a link between Alien and "Aliens" but i'm not sure it really makes sense as such. Anyone read that?

If there is anyone here that can give a "chronological" list of novels out there in the Alien Universe, I'd REALLY appreciate that. I'm not a comic fan, but, if you indicate which are comics, it might help someone else...

thanks!

S.M. can probably do that for you.

Out Of The Shadows is set 37 years after Alien.  Things to more or less work out if you're willing to suspend some disbelief.

Rough book timeline (canon* and non-canon). I generally prefer the dates in the comics over the books based on them so some dates might be a bit off.

Steel Egg (mid 21st century)

Prometheus (2093)

Covenant (2104-ish)

Alien (2122)

Out of the Shadows (2139)*

Aliens (2179)

River of Pain (concurrent with Aliens)*

Alien 3 (2179)

Earth Hive (2192)

AvP: Prey (2192)

Berserker (2193)

AvP: War (2193)

Nightmare Asylum (2194)

Female War (2196)

Rogue (?)

Genocide (2217-ish)

Harvest (?)

Labyrinth (2220s)

Music of the Spears (2220s)

Cauldron, DNA War, No Exit, Criminal Enterprise (all undated from memory, but likely sometime in 23rd century)

Alien Resurrection (2381)

Original Sin (2386)

Sea of Sorrows (2496-2497)*

The Rage War trilogy (2692)*

Of course that's not all canon correct?

Asterisked stuff is currently canon.

Stuff with question marks I don't have an exact date handy, but they occur around that time.
