now bare with me
the original engineers r a species that become a space travelling race at some point and explore theyr solar system. they come across a planet seemingly devoid of life until they go under ground and encounter the xeno (in some form) and believe it to be the perfect species. they begin to worship the species but over millennia they lose the ability to reproduce naturally, thus they delve into events such as beginning of Prometheus to repopulate the numbers required to sacrifice to the xeno life cycle, yet they don't believe in sacrificing themselves. a faction on another world becomes disgruntled that they r being used to keep this species thriving so rebel and reengineer the black goo to become a weapon of mass destruction on planets seeded by the engineers. the original population become aware and launch an attack on the facility on lv223 using the original xeno eggs, in the mayhem some of the local engineers r impregnated and xenos burst out and kill all the rest of the engineers (with the exception of at least one in stasis easily missed by those who cant open doors). now we don't see what becomes of these xenos as they find another, warmer part of the facility to start theyr nest as in aliens. the main engineers know better than to come back to the planet to tidy up and leave assuming all the rebel s*** have been taken care of. plus the facility on lv223 was huge as we see by the scans so very little of the facility is actually explored by the crew.
just a theory that popped into my head

Great minds think alike. Something similar popped into my head on This thread
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

I think the deep motive for the Prometheus themed arc is that only god can create life and when u play with fire u get burned. that no matter where in the universe u r, a species that tries to tamper with the natural balance of things is ultimately punished. in the engineers and maybe our own cases, that our punishment comes in the form of our own creations destroying us.

Ali81..... I like this theory as I believe the xeno should be an ancient specimen

Anyone ever consider that the writers have probably never even considered half the stuff we are speculating about? We are really digging into minutiae as if there are specific reasons for everything...maybe they wont explain anything about the Space Jockey with the hole in the floor on the derelict ship, or all the Head symbolism, or multiple generations of various stages of Engineer evolution, etc....but I guess thats why we are scifi geeks :)

For a while, I thought a two or three season series show based off the different ideas on these threads could make for some great scifi.

mini series is a decent idea but I fear it would take something away from the thing. I think ridley will address the big questions as he has himself talked about them over the years, who was the space jockey, what happened to him and whats the motivation behind the eggs. ur right and we may not get all the answers but that's part of all the fun in the alien series, it leaves u wanting more and more and once everything has been answered then that's the franchise pretty much ran its course.

I don't really want a series either. As ali81 stated above it would take a lot mystery from the series.A good example why i dont want a series is Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles, sure it was good at times but more often than not it left me frustrated.I think is potential even want at least from the studio(i've discussed this elsewhere)for them to tell more about the series but i think they should just leave it at movies as well as other mediums such as comics, videogames, and books(Alan Dean Foster is writing a follow up to Covenant after all)
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

I agree a series would probably water things down eventually. Just saying it would be an interesting way to answer a lot of good questions and explore things brought up on threads. The speculation and ruminating on threads is fun too though. Maybe it should stay that way.

we def need most things answer, esp why did the engineers turn on us and who, if anyone created the xeno. those 2 would do for me but id love to see more of the engineers culture and civilization, much the same as id love someone to do a backstory on the predator in a movie but tastefully.

I think thats what Shane Black intends to do with predator 4.Whether it'll be tasteful or not is a different question.

im looking forward to seeing pred4, iron man 3 was ok, lots of ppl bashed it but it wasn't bad. I also think his involvement in the original film and having seen where the alien franchise went, hel try and keep his feet on the ground.

Im pretty excited for predator 4 as well.I just wish they'd tell us more about it.
