The Deacon/Xenomorph created to be a replacement for the (extinct?) female of the engineer race... Interesting.

Reminds me of the Locust from Gears of War, in which the females are the virtually blind, hard-skinned, aggressive Berserkers. I remember hearing talk that in the Locust culture these Berserkers were bound in chains and forced to mate (en mass) and give birth in factory-like conditions.

One could even argue that Giger had the very thought himself in the pic above of which I have always argued should be why the Xenomorph shud be portrayed on film by a female performer as opposed to a male one.

Leaving aside Ridley's musing that they'd moved beyond gender, how is the lack of a female a "crucial plot point"?

Well, it explains that the whole evolution and birth of the xenomorph was no accident as the movie portrays it. I find my theory to give some real character, motivation, and complexity to the whole lore.

This is one of the Mysteries to be honest....

The Biblical Gods and Angels are depicted as being Male only... Adam was created alone first... too.

But other Religions and Mythos have Males and Females, we cant be sure if they will show us such in the Franchise... it seemed as well as the Elders Scenes that they are Male....

But it could be the same as Predators and we only see Male, and like how we only used to see Male Klingons...

Does not rule out Females....

Ridley did say that the Engineers Sacrificed themselves in that Ritual Way, because its how they chose to do it, and they do have other ways to create life.

This does not have to mean they can procreate like Humans can... its another ambiguous comment by Ridley.

There is a lot of proof that could back up the Engineers only being Male... the way the Engineer responded to Shaw, but then again he was not so keen on Ford.

The way they worshiped the Xeno Life-Cycle, maybe it was a perverted view on creation and in which via the Face Huger the Engineers could Carry and then give birth to New Life.... they can carry a child so to speak.

Or maybe they dont worship the Xeno in this manner, we simply dont know yet.

The one set of Alien Covenant could shed some light on the subject though..

This scene shows a scene of death, disaster or punishment...

These Humanoid beings are dressed anciently with loincloths are they all burnt so that those remain yet their hair is gone?

The Scene shows what looks like Females, and the Males have that Adonis Perfect Male Form that the Sacrificial Engineer had, and thus the Female looking ones have a what you would consider to be a Perfect Female Form.

They are all Bald, the Scene is depicted with Walls that have the Engineer Cuneiform Writings.

This Scene may not show Engineers, but it may do... if the movie is following some of Paradise Lost, then punishment was put upon the Fallen Angels... but also descriptions of Punishment to Mankind.

So it could be either, but it could more likely be Engineers or related Ancestors...

Or it could be David dropping Hell on Paradise...

We just dont know... so yes this Shot could show us that maybe yes Engineers have Females?

The Source did inform me via my friend some information that leads me to think and points to that the Engineers could merely be our ancestors and we never evolved from Apes, but from them.  They mentioned Generations of Mankind and how the events of the Bible happened, in context to the movie but do not necessarily have to have happened to Modern Man.

If we look at Generations of Man in context to some Religions and Mythos.... then some show us that Man was first and Man could not procreate and lived for a longer time.... then Women where created so that the next Generation could procreate.

And so maybe we could be seeing the same thing here.

so the Question is where do Engineers fit? They could be merely Clones created in the Image of a more Ancient but related Race, who may have had Females.

So are there Female Engineers? We cant be 100% sure.

But evidence in Covenant could suggest we are not seeing Humans in that Scene.... not as far as Modern Man....  and so it could be Engineers or another Humanoid Race that is connected... be it creators of the Engineers or a creation/evolution.

We ultimately still dont know the whole Agenda...

Not long after the movie came out, there was topics that discussed what if the Engineers where like us but they had evolved so much, combated diseases and dying of a younger Age.

If Humans can Cure every disease, and they do it by genetically modification of our Genomes, so that each Generation is Immune to common diseases and cancers.

Then if we found a way to prolong our organs and the aging of our bones and skin, so we can essentially hold time and not age....  we are now immortal unless we are attacked by a serve wound, blow, or accident.

how many 100's of years like this if we cant die of old age or we age at a rate of 10-100X slower and we dont suffer from Cancer, Colds, and other Diseases...

Is there a risk that down the line Evolution would take care of the fact we no longer need to Procreate and we advance ourselves to that point.

That there is No Gender.

But once our numbers dwindle via a calamity or war or a new disease, if we cant procreate... then what becomes of our Evolved Species, sure we could then live for hundreds or thousands of years... but at some point and with War, Disaster or New Disease...

We would come to a End.. our Evolution proving Costly..

What if this happened to the Engineers?

The one extended Sacrifice Scene did translate to suggest the Elder said "let your blood become the waters" etc etc and "your soul a way back for us"

Or something like that...

So this theory was applicable but with the removal of the Elders Scene we dont know how they are not going to portray our Engineers.

And so again we cant say if they have Females, or if they used to have Females.  But i think after the next few movies we should find out if this was the case.

It's true that biblical divine entities and (arch)angels are depicted in art as males and they actually even have male names and personalities (Lucifer, Michael, Gabriel), but theologians say that the true nature of angels' gender is androgynous.

I don't know whether that is mentioned somewhere in the Bible or not, or where they got that theory from, but there seems to be a consensus about this matter among theologians and they stick to saying that androgyny is the only canon concept to go about the nature of angels. Because they are created by God, a product of divine creation, while sexual reproduction is something less pure and more of an animal trait reserved for mortals.

Well, another strong indicator that might fuel this theory is the original Prometheus script by Jon Spaith. This script literally states that the Engineers evolved into beings that are no longer tied to gender.

It is possible that only one gender exists in the point of evolution that the engineers are in.

it could even be that over the decades to come the male gender overcomes the struggles but the female dies out, being too weak to survive. Depending what happened in their further evolution and if they can die of natural causes and have a gender in general or can get deseases and so forth. Its really a questions if they are similar to humans or totally different and what this catalyst or black goo truly is and does. I always had the strange feeling that they cannot procreate anymore after tampering with gene manipulation and cloning, which does degenerate the dna strand and at some point leads to extinction. Then you need to find other ways to create life and cheat the natural course. The only thing that would really answer alot of questions, is to know if the black goo was found or created and its purpose. When we know that, we can predict their life cycle and ours better

It's also possible that the Engineers are not a race, that they are made rather than born. Perhaps humanity is their attempt to create a self replicating version of themselves. But it keeps going wrong.
