I am asking the senior members to post links to any media that explains the relation ship between alien , alien DC to prometheus. The star beast script to lovecraft literature etc and also what basic concepts ie canon that needs to be understood prior to reading posts on this forum. Please add anything that you might consider necessary. Please assist. Thank you I will also use this thread to keep record for myself of anything I might find interesting. You see in the passage of time who will remember the spiders web next to the holographic console etc. I just read today about a scene where Dallas and Ripley got sexual in the lifeboat. Never even heard of that before and I believe there are many thousand of fans out there who hasn't either. I highly recommend reading the Weyland Yutani archives and xeno alpha 07 s blog over there . I still have a long way to go !! Enjoy !!!

Why did the spectragraph end up right in front of the ampule room just before david opened it ???

was it david telling it with his wireless wifi to go there ??

SO THAT IT WOULDNT SCAN THAT PART OF THE TEMPLE AGAIN AFTER THE GOO STARTED INFECTING THE AIR ??

DID HE CHECK THE HOLOGRAPHIC CONSOLE BECAUSE THE SPECTRAGRAPH PICKED UP THE THE GREEN GOO WITH NANITES ON THE INSIDE ??

HE ALLREADY KNEW EVERTHING THE SPECTRAGRAPHS HAD SCANNED AND PICKED UP IN THE REST OF TEMPLE(THAT WAS ALREADY SCANNED) THAT WOULD HAVE ANY BEARING. HOW MANY OTHER STUFF HE ALLREADY KNEW ABOUT (OR WAS ABLE TO DEDUCE) BASED ON THE INFO THAT CAME IN SINCE THE SPECTRAGRAPHS STARTED SCANNING WHEN FIFIELD RELEASED THEM ONTO THE AIR ??

IS IT THEN SO UNREALISTIC TO ASSUME THAT HE KNEW EXCACTLY WHAT THE HOLOGRAPHIC CONSOLE WAS ABLE TO DO AND THAT HE WAS EXPECTING TO FIND SOMETHING ASI HE WOULD EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO PLAYBACK SOMETHING ??

HE KNEW THE PITCH THE TIMBRE OF THE SCREECH IN THE HOLOGRAPHIC RECORDING AND PROBABLY REALISED WHAT IT WAS AFTER SEEING THE MURAL IN THE AMPULE ROOM.

Did I say Lindeloff was a clever bloke ??

Earth civilisation was based around androids doing all the think and study and warning work. They were expecting him to do that and hence the crew trusted David blindly . Weyland knew this and had psychological profiles of every person there.

Nope Prometheus is about Weyland and Weyland Industries as was Alien.

the alien saga narated by john hurt part 2

after watching this i make the following 2 remarks:

1.  ridley didnt do a lot of retakes the cast had to do a lot of improvisation

2. money and keeping costs down was much of an issue then as it is now.

brilliant footage

http://www.empireonline.com/features/alien-3-tale-of-the-wooden-planet/

It claims that :

1. Alien 3 went $63 millon dollars over budget still grossed $160 million.

2. "but the '87 writers' strike hit, and Gibson abandoned the project after rushing an unsatisfactory draft"

3. "Weaver was never that ecstatic at the idea of returning. "It's a little like childbirth," she told Premiere magazine in '92. "The first couple of years after you make an Alien film, the idea of doing another is not that appealing."

4. "Still, she agreed with Fox that she'd do it, on condition that the story be suitably impressive, original and non-dependent on guns (as a vocal member of Handgun Control, Weaver had never been comfortable with Aliens' heavy-duty pulse-rifle antics) - and that she approved of the director. Twohy duly set about writing Ripley into his screenplay."

5. "At the meeting with London, Giler and Hill, Ward's pitch, as he recalls, went something like this: "What if this Alien had been encountered somewhere in the distant past on Earth? People would have thought of it as some kind of devil. Then, what if you had like a sort of powerful sect on Earth (in the future of the Alien movies) who reject all technology beyond a certain date. So the ruling forces say to the sect, 'Okay, you wanna live this way? We have an old satellite - huge thing. We'll tow it into outer space and you can just live there on your own.' They just give them a place to live where they know inevitably they're gonna die."

So they mixed this with the prison planet ?? Interesting.

6. " However, Weaver had other ideas. "'I wanna die! End the series - I don't wanna make any more of them!'"

OK !!

7. "It's not entirely surprising that, now Murdoch had turned up the heat, Alien III's producers started to worry about the commercial viability of Ward's concept. Indeed, the studio was now even more concerned to keep a lid on costs and see a quick return on its investment, because it had already poured a worrying amount of money into - ironically - Harlin's Die Hard 2 and Cameron's The Abyss. All too quickly, Ward's pitch turned in his peers' minds from exciting idea to unviable, indulgent flight of fancy. Holes began to be picked."

8."Ward was clear from the outset that, through his world, he was re-imagining the Alien through God-fearing (or rather, devil-fearing) medieval eyes: less H. R. Giger, more Hieronymus Bosch (indeed, the bizarre, hellish paintings of the 15th-century Dutch artist were a key reference point for the director). It's central to his plot, and he insists he was "more than happy to scare the bejesus out of people!" As for Ripley, he concedes that he focused on the harder job of "making the surrounding characters come alive" while only sketching Ripley's throughline, assuming he'd have more time to detail it. An approach he now recognises was unwise: "When you're working with a star and showing treatment drafts at such an early stage, that's not such a good strategy!"

9. "Even so, he had clear intentions for the character. He was particularly taken by Cameron's idea, seen in the Aliens Special Edition, that Ripley had a daughter who had died of old age. Though he was keen to be rid of the surrogate-daughter figure of Newt ("One of the first things I wanted to do was kill her off. She kind of annoyed me," he laughs), he wanted to place at the thematic heart of Alien III the idea of Ripley searching for family. "You can't keep living your life fighting creatures without much of a family," he says. "How would you survive? Families give us something. We're communal, social creatures. So Ripley's big regret is that she missed out on a personal life. She seeks some sort of strange atonement for not having had a relationship with her daughter."

Ouch !!

10."Eventually, Ward was sent notes that were, he says, "very adamant about what could and what could not happen in the script. Now it was felt it should be more like Alien and Aliens, so they suggested, 'Let's make it a mining community!' How boring! 'Let's have that guy who turned out to be a robot (Lance Henriksen)!'" Ward protested: "Guys," he said, "you can't do the same thing in this film, another character that has milk come out of them - it's gonna be predictable! Try something else!"

11. "Basically, the only reason I signed on was because I had a strong idea for the story," he sighs, "and the very fabric of that story had been chipped away. It just became a remake."

Some interesting things to note. Weaver had a bit to much to say in all of this ??

some interesting thoughts:

Instead of sending unreliable humans with expensive contracts/supplies, they send a large group of robots this time, some military hardware and a small handful of loyal Weyland employees, because the robots might need a handler or two to keep them inline and on task.

oduodu

MemberXenomorphMar-25-2015 2:57 AM

that was initially one of my ideas that i would have sent androids to study the tech

oduodu

MemberXenomorphMar-25-2015 3:05 AM

With lv 223 studied to death why indeed would the company bother with lv 426 ??

2 reasons:

1

Plausible deniability: We got the xeno on earth by accident and we were forced to quarentine it and take it to our labs for security reasons.

2

Reverse engineer the black goo by using the xeno DNA to remove the xeno part and get to the original substance the engineer drank a the start of the movie.

Possably lv 223 has had its engineers temples detsroyed to make sure no else discovers the tech there.

Yutani might actually be trying to circumvent this. who says one of the androids wasnt meddled with ?? or they simply tried to kill of the Weyland team ??

Alien: Engineers - What Prometheus Could Have Been

In this news article posted by Chris Picard Scified user Wintermute makes the following post relating to the family history of Sir Ridley Scott:

start quote

So, Ridley Scott has publicly stated more than once that he makes movies for himself, nobody else.   When you look at his life I think you gain some insight into the plotline of Prometheus.

A central element of Prometheus, especially when you factor in some of the ancillary viral marketing material, is Weyland's desperate lunge for immortality.  He spends all that money and lives just to cheat death, as he admits.  All his great, almost god-like accomplishments cannot spare him that fate.  For me, this is really the heart of the story, and if you watch it (several times) you can see the foreshadowing and the importance of this element.

So Ridley is in his 70s, and his younger brother Tony threw himself off a bridge in 2012 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor of the same type that killed their older brother when they were in their early 20s.  Ridley knew Tony had cancer and was undergoing chemo, and probably knew while Prometheus was in development.

He no doubt is acutely aware of his own mortality at this point and is trying to crank out accomplishments as he feels his time speeding by.  When you look at all that, and then watch Prometheus again, this provides a plausible explanation for why he had Lindelof rewrite the script the way that he did.  And  make no mistake, Ridley supervised the rewrite, both he and Lindelof stated that repeatedly.

end quote

I wasnt aware of any this.

My regards and sympathies to the SCOTT family.

LV-426 Explained: Weyland knows about it but deters others from knowing

start quote

"As fate would have it, Shaw and Halloway's interest in Zeta 2 Reticuli has proven to be mutually beneficial. While the good doctors rely on ancient carvings and primitive cave paintings, my science division's own long range scans have recently detected a faint, almost imperceptibel signal eminating from one of the lesser moons in that system. And contrary to the findings of Shaw and Halloway, which target LV-223 as our primary site of interest, our findings suggest the point of interest could actually be the moon LV-426.

Per standard procedure, we will embed a David 8 unit with the crew. And he will be programmed with multiple contingency plans to address andexploit whatever assets we secure on 223. But only David will know about 426 and will ensure that the rest of the crew - including Meredith - learn nothing about the transmission we've recently discovered until the time is right.

For if the Yutani's new ECIU software is to be trusted, there might be great risk awaiting us on the path to an even greater reward."

end quote

MemberDeaconApr-13-2015 8:52 AM

Yet more great work Oduodu... ;)

Yes the company knows about LV 426 and it would appear they think it has more rewards than LV 223?

David 8 is set to monitor LV 426... surely as far as signal and if he can understand Engineer Language and the Signal he would have indeed had some ideas about what may be going on down on LV 223.

We have to ask once he and Shaw set off from LV 223, he can easily go to visit LV 426.

Whats of interest is "For if the Yutani's new ECIU software is to be trusted, there might be great risk awaiting us on the path to an even greater reward."

What can this mean? surely not a part of Weylands David models? it cant be they use Yutani ECU on the Prometheus....

Maybe it has to be that a Yutani Craft or Probe had detected something of interest from LV 426 and sent back information that Weyland had intercepted... and maybe they are on about if the Yutani Data can be trusted?

Maybe this does somewhat fit in with what i was told about how either...  Prometheues was not the first mission to that system or not the only one... i assumed they also meant the company but i am sure there words was...

Prometheus was not the first mission to Zeta 2 or not the only mission to Zeta 2 and in context they mean as far as from Earth or by hands of Mankind, be that manned mission or unmanned or even probe...

MemberXenomorphApr-14-2015 5:03 AM

These videos gives you a better understanding of MR Scott and Prometheus. Please watch.

from 0:59 to

Ridley Scott: if its good it wil play for years on television re issueing of dvd's and so ..amd that ....there is a whole industry in that so to a certain extent a lot of their revenue comes from that over ethe years .

interviewer: like from bladerunner it wasnt an box office success look at what it becomes...... intense

Ridley Scott: it never made any money i never made any money no i gave it all away to make it the important thing to do was make it

interviewer: why now for you to return to make sci fi what was it that made this the right time and this the right product

Ridley Scott: i didnt really have honestly i well initially i was very dissapointed with the performance of bladerunner times that it didnt play people were confused so when they are confused en masse you start to think that actually they are right and therefore i kept accasionally look at it thinking this doesnt age this is dorian grey it just keeps sitting there and i think its pretty good so eveytime i re looked at it rose ????? beyond video tape ocasionally i would be asked to check a print to keep it alive then i was told ironically that this was going to go library of congress actually supervise the reprint and actually you will be able to look at this in 200 years time but what you have to do is supplementing and keep renewing the technology so that was the first clue i went ah library of congress they said yeah then i learnt that i was the second most requested in the ??????? library i think we were right behind maltese falcon

interviewer: maltese falcon ?? you guys were right behind maltese falcon ??? wow !!

ridley: so i realised something was up. and so what had happened it became a classic before it came out by accident on the santa monica film festival where someone had asked for a print of bladerunner by request there was a a lot of underground movment to actualy see it and so many that the studio took it out of the drawer and never looked at it and just ?????? it never checked it does that tell you anything ? when it arrives as a 35mm roll of print without titles at the front and its got some of Jerry Goldsmith's music on it its got some vangelis's musuic on it and what it was it was a longer cut my version .

interviewer: that they had just found ??

ridley scott: they just didnt check on the shelves they just took of the sshelves and slammed it werent labeled properly and from that it was like an earth quake as am reaction and that is what actually reset it brought it to life thats now 10 to 14 - 13 years ago.

interviewer: and that sortof reignited your interest in scifi in a sense ??

ridley scott: in a way yeah i thought you know i alwys thought i was right about that (bladurunner recut) i liked it ok so the ????? and then i started rethinking and people kept saying why dont you do a science fiction movie and then i had thought about Alien and thinking if I do Alien again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GC3k9OoWbE

This video has the following comments by Ridley Scott:

0:22 to 0:36

interviewer: so why now - why 33 years later you could have made this story 20 yeasrs ago.

Scott: no no i think i have done 2 science fiction that landed kind of in the science fiction universe as important and so i have always been getting bullied into you know you get a fanbase and they are constantly rating which is nice its great but they constantly saying why dont you make a science fiction movie ? and i couldnt really find one it wasnt for a want of trying i just couldnt come accross anything i felt was really worthwhile and then the thing nagged me so i talked about this morning was the fact that no one had asked the big question and i started to think about it well it doesnt have to be it doesnt have to be what it appear to be what you see the space jockey is actually something else and thats why i came in and fox said ok and they sensably put us into development which is spending a little bit of money upfront

TO SEE WHAT IS IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE

first of all before we start spending real money and then at the same time as having the writer write so the two comes together and suddenly then you budget it and you are on.

comments

3:11 to 4:11

interviewer: what can you tell us about the story so obviously you were saying this morning you can create space ships you can do space vistas that look fantastic they do but the story has.....

ridley scott: its always the story story story....who said it hitchcock said it story story. each of the characters has a nice very nice integrated evolution in the three acts and with a mystery that runs through the middle of it which is on a human level and then there is a spititual level which also definitely touches base in a very big way because two of the characters one believes has faith as a scientist has faith in a God and the other one actually believes that we were bred in a pietry dish so in other words we were created but not by a God but by superior beings. so thats what it is.

Well this is my contribution to this forum. i hope it shows people many things tha they may not have known about prometheus and the franchise . i am not the best writer but I have a passion for prometheus and its reklationship to the franchise. i am sure their are many better qualified to have done this(and may perhaps have done a better job) and perhaps i have covered a lot old ground but a few newbies might see a few things they were never aware of and it might stick with them for life.

Thanks

Svanya

@udoudo Just change your name on your original profile. Having 2 separate profiles is against TOS unfortunately. If you can no longer access your original profile, i'll be happy to help you with that. :)
