I thought exactly the same thing "where does David 8 hides the ladder..."

I assumed that it was telescopic in its design and was in the bag that David was carrying. It makes sense to me that carrying such equipment would be standard when exploring a ruin. Maybe David's bag is 8th dimensional (flat-space). ; )

Antony: yes it does make sense to carry equipment like that in a bag. [Didn't remember he had a bag, lol]

OMG I thought the same thing when I was in theatre!! With no explanation given I was forced to have made up my mind that it was some supercool futurstic foldable ladder that was stored as a tiny rod on David's utility belt.

I think Shaw and the other would have seen him put it together and stop him from doing anything. Or at least ask him,,wat u up to robot?

I believe that RS was hoping for a suspension of disbelief on our part. There were scenes where they took their helmets off and were not carrying them. Then all of a sudden, they're carrying them. LOL. The beginning of the movie has a glaring continuity error when David is die-ing his hair while watching the "Lawrence of Arabia" and looking in a mirror combing his hair: 1) We see him combing 2) We see him watching with die in his hair 3) We see him combing (no die) 4) We see him watching with die in his hair 5) I think some more combing All while this is happening, the audio track from "Lawrence of Arabia" is playing. I pointed it out to Freeze! who was to my left during my second IMAX 3D viewing. I did not notice it during my first viewing. Antony: I think that is to show that David 8 spent a lot of the travelling time doing the same things. But then again... how much dye did he carrired with him?

I wonder if David's hair grows? Hmmm.... ...and where are the toilets on the Prometheus? We need someone to pull up the ship schematics....while you're doing that I'm going to see when everyone ate last. We WILL get to the "bottom" of this (pun intended)... ; )

I saw the ladder somewhere.. let me see.. I have a video clip called 'Prometheus_broll2.mp4' - a copy can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/44326465 Lots of 'making of' clips. Go 55 seconds in and you see the actors entering the Atmosphere Processing room. The third person to enter is carrying the ladder - not sure who? So it's missing either because of a cont. error - or the final edit just didn't include a low enough shot!

Good find! looks like jackson and he drops it? He was told no weapons were needed for the expedition..ala AVP, so maybe they gave him a ladder instead?

No to be sniffed at - I've seen Jackie Chan with a ladder, they can do some damage!

I noticed that there are two larger Engineers in the entrance to the Orrery. David notices them as they are noticably taller than any Engineers we had seen. I just bet they could reach whatever buttons needed to be pushed in the 'ladder' scene. Why the two taller Engineers are depicted is not clear. They could have been positioned there for decorarions.
