This shot always got me intrigued. The shot above positions the ringed planet as directly opposite the row of temples where all the havoc, evidence of "holocaust" & infection originates. The ringed planet may not direct reference Saturn of the Solar system but there is an indirect reference between Prometheus & Saturn. Saturn is associated with, believe it or not, Kronos, another Titan. He is one of the original 12 Titans of the Greek mythology which also includes Prometheus. Kronos is a Titan associated with death, cult worship and other pretty horrible stuff...you want to look it up people. Zeus (aka Jupiter) wanted to overthrow Kronos which is his, believe it or not, his father. The Titan Prometheus used to be on Kronos side but switch allegiance to aid Zeus to bring down Kronos (look it up, swear to God!). The theme of child wanting to overthrow his evil dad is echoed here. There is no accidental visual design here, even in the throwaway shot like the one I posted above.

MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 8:38 AMThere are no throwaway shots...j.k.
You may be contrasting so called money shots, like the space jockey from the original Alien.
It is obvious RS loves images and story telling more than us. Tying stories to myths is like taking candy from a baby,
Father?
Yes, son.
I want to kill you.
Mother?
I want to....
So, maybe a little Shaw attachment by the deacon, David, and maybe the engineers to put a turn on the myth.
Have a look at Goiya's Saturn eats his children.

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 9:49 AMAlthough I enjoyed your Post I'll have to say that the planet that looks like Saturn WAS ALREADY IN ALIEN. And there was not even one single refference to the Greek/Persian Mythos there.
So... any connection between that Saturn-like planet to the Myth of Prometheus is one of those things that is in the eye of the Beholder.
Sir Ridley is a smart guy... but not that smart.
