OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 7:24 AMI’m relatively new to this forum, but I’ve been lurking around here for some time…and recently I started posting/ trolling (call it whatever you want) pretty bad things about Prometheus. I haven’t really changed my mind, it’s still an average movie, but I’m struggling with this though… and no-one seems to care about it in my direct vicinity, so I decided to post this here.
I know how many people were looking forward to this, including me…It’s been almost a week now since I’ve seen Prometheus and after looking at my Alien Queen diorama from Mcfarlane. ( I know it’s not an accurate sculpt, but it’s pretty awesome to look at nonetheless) and after having seen AVPR about 2 weeks ago, I realize that perhaps I’ve been a little unfair…
Now… I went into theatres as an ALIEN(S) fan AND with an open mind… I didn’t want to see any egg, facehugger, chestburster or alien. But it’s just because I’m such a fan of ALIEN(S) that I was so disappointed. Anyone who hasn’t seen ALIEN(S) will probably like Prometheus, because of the visuals, the styling, the C-section scene, because they probably haven’t seen anything like it… It all looks great ( except for cuddles, you can really see it’s a puppet sometimes), it is definitely one of the prettiest ALIEN films to behold, right after ALIEN but before ALIENS (in my opinion)
But if you’re looking for a great story with believable characters that you care about… expect to be disappointed… big time.
HOWEVER…I’m glad the ALIEN franchise isn’t dead… At least they tried to revive it… however horrible the results are at this point in time… And it’s not nearly as bad as AVPR. That one just SUCKED, with all the campy teen sh*t going on, I felt I was watching Nightmare on Elm Street or something!! Prometheus tries to be serious, but fails…
In a nutshell: Yes, Prometheus is gorgeous to look at, but it’s an empty hollow shell. A pretty one… YES, but hollow nonetheless. I won’t see it a second time, I’ll save my money for the blu-ray, hoping it contains a director’s cut.
AND maybe we can all forget (I hope so) this abortion when they release ‘Prometheus 2?’ or 3??
Don’t hate me, I’m still having mixed feelings…
Ps: sorry about my English, really trying. It’s really not easy to post a review or opinion in a foreign language.
Ps2: Why was Aliens: Colonial Marines set back to Q1 of 2013??
You don\\\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage!

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 5:26 PMI will say, Facehug, that asking for Character development in a horror movie is like asking a republican politician to vote against gun rights. It's just not going to happen on a regular basis.
Plot holes can be found in any movie. And people do dumb things in every movie. Why did an entire crew with a science officer (Alien) think it was ok to eat dinner with someone who just had an alien species removed from his face when basic quarrantine rules are 24 hours? Wouldn't they have kept him locked up for 24 hours, then had the Alien secured in medlab and easily disposed of? No, they had to eat dinner with a potentially diseased man.
Why did Dallas, when stuck in the air shafts in Alien, move to a position with 4 possible entrances that he had no chance of covering rather than back his way to a corner and point the flamethrower at anything coming his way. Why did Lambert stand there dumbfounded when face to face with the alien, and then refuse to run away while the Alien slowly took 10-15 seconds to shine its teeth at Parker before killing him. Why did Ripley try to save a cat? Why would
Ripley split off from Dallas and Lambert at the end when everyone else got killed when they were alone? What made Parker think he could outmuscle an 8 foot tall alien with acid for blood? There's inexplicable things in every movie, and Alien may be the worst of all. Just generally poor decision making in Alien.
I don't think anybody who loved Alien could hate Prometheus because of plot holes and poor decision making.

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 8:03 AMWhat about Aliens?

Xenotron
OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 10:47 AMShinobi, if you're referring to Aliens as being "a pretty hollow shell" like Prometheus, do you think that this guy could make a similar video analyzing Prometheus if that were the case? If not, then why not?
Gimmeafacehug, I don't think you've been too hard. A movie is either good, or it isn't. Be honest about your opinion. Be subjective about movies for objective reasons. The worst thing you could do is love it or hate it and not be able to back it up with why you love it or hate it.

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 11:31 AMAs it is right now: 6/10. It passes. But if they don't do anything about it...it'll never grow on me... nope, there's much better out there.
It just sucks if you're going WHO?? or WHAT?? the whole time...
I love it because:
-no predators, pure ALIEN dna
-More 'derelict' than ever, great VFX
-Prometheus sets are stunning, inside the derelict could have been better...
-nice intro
and that's it....
I hate it because:
-disappointing script, mediocre character development, lame dialogue...
-Animatronics look fake, wait...what??
-The landing was too smooth...no tension whatsoever, nothing compared to alien.
-They took off their helmets almost immediately...again, no tension.
-GIANT plot holes
examples!!! spoilers!!!!:
-Shaw just gave birth to an alien but forgets to mention it to the rest of the crew in the next scene...
-they forget to bring weapons even though the place is full of dead aliens.
-David practically laughs at Milburn and Fifield's stay at the temple... and that there's a lifeform.
-and so on, I forgot most of it...
C'mon Ridley, you can do better than this. Less is more, not more is less...
You don\\\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage!

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-04-2012 11:42 AMAnd let's not forget stupid plot devices:
Spoiler!!!!!
-David gets to see the entire start-up procedure for the derelict from the holo-recordings...Wow.. That's convenient...for the...ending

I think I love you. Thank you for posting that. People are idiots in real life - why wouldn't they be in movies?

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-05-2012 7:29 AMthanks maiafay, and i think thats the point in what u said. people do dumb things. we dont have to assume everyone will make great decisions when faced with horror. its possible people can remain composed, not lose thier cookies, not freeze in awe, but also to do dumb things, make dumb decisions, and in a way lose consciousness and let instincts take over.

OvomorphMember0 XPJun-05-2012 8:06 AMSo am I wrong to ask for a little character development in Sci-fi? What about 2001, The Matrix, Moon, Star Wars ep. 4,5,6, The day the earth stood still (original one), Forbidden Planet…The list is endless.
I just miss the olden days when CGI didn’t exist and the focus was put on the story.
As for your remarks, with all due respect:
-because ‘Kane seemed fine’…I know it’s a little lame but meh..
-Dallas panicked…How would you feel if you were in a crawlspace and you just found slime on the floor and suddenly you realize there’s a ten foot alien in there… I’d die of fear.
‘Euhm…Am I clear…I want to get the hell out of her…’ remember.
-Lambert froze…rooted to the spot. Can’t see anything wrong with that.
-I’d also try to save Jonesy, because I love cats! but you’re right. No need for that scene.
-Ripley clearly said she was going to prep the shuttle while Lambert and Parker were getting the coolant… In Prometheus they would just split up without saying anything.
-To me, it seemed Parker was trying to take the alien by surprise ( because it was in front of the hull) only for it to turn around at exactly the right time to destroy him…
And sorry, but these aren’t plot holes, they’re plot devices…some stupid ones yes, but I can live with them.
You don\\\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage!
