Did you pre-order your own Walter model yet? You best hurry, because soon Weyland-Yutani will be unveiling Walter 2.0! Today we have an exciting look behind the scenes of the Meet Walter Alien: Covenant viral video, along with some concept artwork, interviews from the team behind the campaign and of course, news of a second phase within the Walter marketing campaign!
First up, TheDrum.com published a fantastic article outlining the "making of" breakdown for the Meet Walter viral video, explaining the process by which the concept initially came about and how that concept turned into a complete viral campaign.
Directed by Luke Scott, the Meet Walter video was a collaborative effort between the creative team at 3AM, AMD and 20th Century Fox. Together with the stellar performance by Michael Fassbender, they managed to bring Walter to life, or should I say, "online".
The Meet Walter film and marketing push is a platform to create conversations about whether the technology could exist and how mankind will deal with the potential of an android being a personal assistant.
“From the movie-going perspective, conversations are always a big goal of ours, but also getting people to emotionally connect to these characters before you go into the theater and see the film. Introducing this character in a very unexpected, non-traditional way and having people hopefully connect and go, ‘Wow, that was really, cool’,” says Chris Eyerman (Creative Director at 3AM)
The piece concludes by teasing a phase 2 in the Meet Walter campaign and makes reference to a Walter 2.0:
The crew promises that there will be a Walter 2.0, a second phase of the campaign for those who signed up through email, leading up to the launch of the movie on May 19. A teaser of Alien: Covenant was shown to crowds in a screening of the first Alien at SXSW.

The future of Alien
The Alien franchise is taking a dramatic turn at 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney. Currently there are two major Alien projects in development - a new Alien TV series by Noah Hawley and a new, stand-alone Alien movie being directed by Fede Alvarez. Both of which will be taking the franchise in a new direction - moving away from the Alien prequel direction Ridley Scott set out to pursue back in 2012.
