Principal photography has officially concluded for Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant last night! Many of the crew have taken to social media to share photos of their celebrations!

Alien: Covenant now moves on to post-production with special effects work being handled by Animal Logic and MPC.

Throughout Alien: Covenant's filming in Australia, a few set photos made their way online, but thankfully nothing too revealing was exposed. You can browse a full re-cap of the various set photos taken from Alien: Covenant on our Prometheus Movies news blog!

Now begins the wait for an official teaser trailer. We expect the first footage to debut will be cryptic and subtle, like the first Alien (1979) trailer as well as Prometheus' first teaser. When exactly the first trailer will drop is anyone's guess. Fox will not be showing any footage at Hall H during Comic-Con, but that's not to say they won't release something online during that time.

As always, keep it locked to Scified or the latest news on all things Alien!

The future of Alien

The Alien franchise is taking a dramatic turn at 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney. Currently there are two major Alien projects in development - a new Alien TV series by Noah Hawley and a new, stand-alone Alien movie being directed by Fede Alvarez. Both of which will be taking the franchise in a new direction - moving away from the Alien prequel direction Ridley Scott set out to pursue back in 2012.

This is interesting and its good to see that not much was leaked...

Its now onto special effects to be added... and just because Principle Photography has ended does not rule out a few shots being added but its most likely a wrap.

Its interesting to notice that this has wrapped up so soon after Rappace was on set, which must confirm her role as being very small.

@ BD Good to see the shoot schedule of 4 months went as planned and Noomi's positioning at the tale end worked a treat rather than her be there at the beginning and leaving early which would have caused all sorts of internet chat. I assumed she would film in Pinewood and be in patched in but delighted she is inside the movie and the sets in Sydney.

Fantastic!

@Dave and Michelle, this lends support to our theories about how Shaw fits into the narrative!

If Noomi was there for 2 weeks or so (not sure of the timeline), that's a decent amount of filming. And they don't always shoot stuff in order, so there's no way to know whether she'll be in the beginning, middle, or end of the film.

Nice ... very excited here ...

I'm now wondering if Noomi will be the captain's log (so to speak) instead of the hologram recordings? ... she could very well log (record) her travel to wherever she & David were headed ... and produce vital data once at their destination ... and it could be a data log that Covenant find? ... hmmm ...

Waiting patiently for a teaser of any kind ...

Well post Production to release can usually be a 9-12 Month turn-around.... and considering we have a Sci-Fi movie with lots of effects and CGI to be added over to make everything a bit more crisp i think that June 2017 to celebrate 5 years after Prometheus would be a bit optimistic.

Mind you never know, but i think the August date would still be pretty much a approximate release date still

That is good, I hope that we will get a teaser trailer soon.

C'mon Ridley, it takes over a year in post-production time?  CGI or not, this is too long.  I agree with Necronom for an earlier release date. The just my opinion.
