To continue the Alien Day celebrations, IGN have released the full clip for Alien: Earth they've been teasing all week. Titled Gestation, the teaser clip shows a gestational process which at first glance looks very reminiscent of the Black Goo transformative process witnessed in Prometheus when it entered the Engineer's bloodstream. But then, as the organism begins to take form, it appears like the embryonic sack of a Chestburster is being created inside a ribcage... But then a further twist occurs and a cocoon pod, much like the one debuted in Alien: Romulus is seen, to which an organism emerges. During the transitions throughout the video, you start to assume this might actually be a Facehugger developing inside the Ovomorph (Egg), but then it's revealed at the end that this spiney-creature has emerged inside a cargo container on board the USCSS Maginot... Puzzling to say the least, which suggests this teaser shows the birth of a different Alien species, not a Xenomorph - unless the Xenomorph life cycle is being completely retconned for this show.
Given the latest Alien: Earth teaser released by Fox just confirmed the show will feature 5 invasive, deadly alien species - it's possible this gestational video is for one of those other species.
