MemberOvomorphFeb-27-2015 8:47 AMWhoa. For your information, tools are quite useful.
Chris, the question for me is how will a much older Ripley fit into a mid- timeline story? That's where I think Gustavo's coming from, also where is any reference to this new story in the pre-existing films that follow?
Blomkamp must have all this figured out or else (I hope) Fox wouldn't touch it. How far can you stretch credibility? I'm cautiously excited by the possibilities, but wary, too. So far for me the only credibility this carries is Ridley Scott producing, but that can read as an endorsement, OR more marketing.
I said before that only one of Blomkamps images so far impressed me, but there is another, the one of Ripley in an alien flight suit. If that really is part of the story, it could also be key to sorting out the more confusing aspects of what's been said so far.

MemberOvomorphFeb-27-2015 12:39 PMMy bad! So if Alien 3 and Alien 4 are not an implanted dream sequences by the company and still part of the time line...I am very excited to what they have ready to pounce on us. Will it involve the story line from Aliens Colonial Marines game? well if Sigourney is happy with it. I'm not going to worry about it. Glad Mr Blomkamp is captain on this ship!

AdminPraetorianFeb-27-2015 3:30 PMI assumed it was going to remove everything after Aliens, sort of what they did with the new X-Men reboots, basically eliminating some really bad movies and lore from the timelines. That there is no ACM, Alien 3 or Alien Ressurection in this time line basically, no dream (lazy writing), just them in space floating around after the events of Aliens and then they get rescued or crash on a planet then and **** hits the fan.

AdminEngineerFeb-27-2015 7:59 PMThe idea of Neill turning Alien 3 and Resurrection into a bad dream was strictly fan speculation. Blomkamp has said his film will take place after Aliens, so it will likely ignore Alien 3 and Resurrection, but won't set out to discount them in any way. That's what this article explains.

MemberNeomorphFeb-28-2015 4:01 AMHi guys; just wondering, where as Neill actually stated that this new Alien film will NOT "undo" Alien 3 and 4 ? The impression that i get from what he stated, is that, it isn't his intention to undo Alien 3 and 4, it's not the reason he's making another Alien film. However, it is probably an inevitability because if this film carries on from where Aliens left off, then how do we arrive at Alien 3 if it and 4 are not burried?
I know alot of people on here don't like the idea of 3 and 4 being explained away as a bad dream and that it would be lazy, but i disagree, it would depend on how it was executed. We know, from the opening scenes in Aliens, that Ripley has nightmares about being chestbusted, maybe she as more bad dreams while asleep in the cryo pods onboard the Solaco after the events in Aliens and those bad dreams are actually Alien 3 and 4. It wouldn't be that far fetched would it? It is Sci-Fi after all.
For me, any method that burries Alien 4 can only be a good thing. (I actually quite like Alien 3.)
However, if Neill does mean that 3 and 4 WON'T be undone then that would cause a problem. Like GustavoHR say's; it would be contradictory and not make any sense. As i said at the beginning of this post, "if this film carries on from where Aliens left off then how do we arrive at Alien 3 if it and 4 are not burried?"

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2015 8:21 AMWhen he says that he just wants to connect it to the first 2, but isn't ignoring the last 2, I'm not sure whether he is saying "I'm not going to contradict them or anything like that", or whether he's saying "I am going to overwrite the later film, but that doesn't mean I'm ignoring them. They're still worthy films". I'm hoping it's the first one, but obviously the plot's not going to be revealed at this time, so I find iwhat's said a bit vague, and interpretable differently.
Fyi, I really don't want the film to contradict any of the previous films (unless you count 'Prometheus' as a previous film, which I don't).
I have thought that it could be set as a dream in hypersleep between 'Aliens' and 'Alien 3'. I doubt that wil be done, as on one hand it does lessen the stakes. But I currently can't see any other way this will work. The plus side of setting it as a dream also is that you can contradict any of the films as much as you want, and edit the Aliens as much as you want, although it wouldn't necessarily be advisable, and it would be justified by the fact that it's a dream.

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2015 9:59 AM"Ripley's Dream".
This is possible
No he understood the poetry of David Fincher introduced in Alien 3 (for me a very complete masterpiece that connects paradoxically precisely and strangely with the universe of Prometheus by a much more religious, strangely, Alien Resurrection theme so does through the issue of cloning and genetic manipulation, which is basically what we see in Prometheus).
Ripley clone 8, which is oddly the closest thing to an Engineer (genetically).
this new history should be able to unite all the Alien universe, leaving the door open to Prometheus universe.
Forgot to mention, it was the same Fincher left open to "Ripley's Dream" doors. If only Jean-Pierre Jeunet had seen this, the story would be different !.

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2015 12:34 PM^or that Joss Whedon character. At least his name isn't on this.
Svanya
AdminPraetorianMar-01-2015 1:42 AM@Major Noob; Joss Whedon wrote the script to Alien Resurrection with some Buffy-style comedy in mind (I know, cringe), which the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet either didn't pick up on or didn't want to do, the result was a crap movie. XD
The only thing that would retcon Alien 3 and Resurrection into the movies but not directly speak of them would be the Aliens: Colonial Marines scenario where Hicks is rescued and he witnesses Ripley's struggles during the events of Alien3 via secret rooms at Weyland Yutani. That would suck, but the events of ACM are canon, hopefully that's not what Bloomkamp intends on doing. I am hoping they reboot the franchise and eliminate all movies from Aliens onwards.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2015 11:53 AMHi all, long time no post. Been lurking in the shadows reading posts here and there until something really good came along the past couple years LOL. Just wondering here, what would be so bad about making Alien 3 and Resurrection bad dreams of Ripley's while in hypersleep for a few years. I personally don't see this as discounting it, as they did happen per say, just in a dream which would still tether them to Alien and Aliens. Now making a direct sequel to Alien and Aliens and ignoring 3 and Rez and whatever consequences the story would have relating to those movies would be more destructive. As Necronom 4 said, she was already having bad dreams in Aliens, and that was only after her first encounter with one Xeno on the Nostromo, this would seem more in line with the original two and fits well, also who knows how long a dream can last for when you're asleep for years instead of overnight which could explain the lenght and detail of these being dreams.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2015 2:31 PMWhen Alien 3 starts it doesn't explicitly say that the events are following on imediately from Aliens. All we know is that Ripley, Newt and Hicks are are in hibernation on board the ship. The new movie could take place between Aliens and Alien 3. As long as at the end of it they're all tucked up safely on the ship then that could work.
Might be a bit difficult to explain Ripley looking much older but maybe some makeup / CGI could fix that.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2015 3:28 PMTaking a consistent line with the series, I think most sensible idea would take history into sleep Ripley 57 years !. to be more fair and respectful of all films that make up the saga.
"Ripley's Dream"
And it would be really great, DEVELOP history on LV-223.
oooooaaaaaaaaa, serial really great !!!!

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2015 8:42 PMGood. Alien 3 is my favorite movie in the series and a fantastic end to the trilogy. I guess this means that we will see Ripley and Hicks awaken aboard the Sulaco with adventures to be had and at the end just lay back to sleep (as just about every movie ends) continuing on to the events of Alien 3. I am totally on board with this idea. Especially with the digital technology we have to make actors look younger (Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy). This could be the alien movie eneryone has wanted for 23 years.
