A Red Band version of the second Alien: Covenant trailer has made its way online and features one very significant new cut-scene, along with a few rehashed scenes from the first trailer and one new f-bomb.

The major new cut-scene happens at the 1:45 mark in the new trailer, and shows an Engineer that has been plastinated by David! Like the other Aliens he has in his workshop, this is how David manages to keep his specimens from decaying over time.

Plastination is a technique or process used in anatomy to preserve bodies or body parts, first developed by Gunther von Hagens in 1977. The water and fat are replaced by certain plastics, yielding specimens that can be touched, do not smell or decay, and even retain most properties of the original sample. - WikiPedia

In the background you can see quite a few designs and drawings David has accumulated over the 10 years. It looks like he has been trying very hard to match specific organisms to that of Engineer and Human anatomy. It seems like David is trying to create the Perfect Organism after all...

Check out the new trailer below:

The future of Alien

The Alien franchise is taking a dramatic turn at 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney. Currently there are two major Alien projects in development - a new Alien TV series by Noah Hawley and a new, stand-alone Alien movie being directed by Fede Alvarez. Both of which will be taking the franchise in a new direction - moving away from the Alien prequel direction Ridley Scott set out to pursue back in 2012.

Stop watching all these trailers! They're going to ruin the movie!

Thanks for the Heads up Chris.  I haven't seen it yet

Great, let all the speculation about David start again, haha. See told you he killed all the engineers, not so fast everyone. Think he's just experimenting on an engineer body he found. Does anyone really think an android could have taken out a whole planet of engineers? The one in Prometheus ripped him apart in one second. But I could be completely wrong. If this really is the case and he did take out the engineers that would be pretty terrible and unrealistic in my opinion. But what do I know.

OvomorphMember69 XPMar-03-2017 7:06 AM

In a way I'm relieved they didn't release a ton of new cut scenes...the film's release is right around the corner and I want to be pleasantly and horrifically surprised. :)

I like how David placed and adjusted it to look like Michelangelo's David.

I love the 2nd trailer. This red band one didn't really add anything except that skinless thing. Is it an engineer? I don't know. What if it's Walter after David gets a hold of him. Fassbender has great bone structure and could resemble an engineer if you took his skin off. I don't know, it could be an engineer but we won't know til May. It's fun to guess what's going on though. I posted a theory about David trapping Daniels and Tennessee in with the alien by using the doors that I think makes sense. Especially since we see David on the monitor really fast in the trailer right as a door slams shut. If he is trying to protect the species eliminating the human witnesses would be the way to go. Plus it coincides with the events of the previous movies.

ChestbursterMember907 XPMar-03-2017 7:17 AM

@Jake I agree. We still have virtually ZERO clue of the true story line here. And that is fantastic! 99% of movies nowadays are given away in the trailers. This one...not at all! fantastic job, Fox!

EngineerAdmin22767 XPMar-03-2017 7:18 AM

@Dark Nebula - brilliant comparison! I didn't notice that right away!

FacehuggerMember161 XPMar-03-2017 7:25 AM

I honestly have no clue what that was.  Was that just something David made, or was it a preserved engineer.  Im pretty clueless about what Davids role in this movie will be.   Thats probably a good thing.

FacehuggerMember118 XPMar-03-2017 7:27 AM

It looks to be a human sized Engineer or an older version of a human that inhabited paradise.

PraetorianMember3378 XPMar-03-2017 7:30 AM

Chad, I had the same thought, how do we know that it is/was an Engineer? Plus, is it confirmed that Engineers lived on the planet? They can be another humanoid (TALLER than us) species created by the Engineers as well.

OvomorphMember15 XPMar-03-2017 7:32 AM

I admir its purity

OvomorphMember20 XPMar-03-2017 7:46 AM

Watching the excellent trailers and reading all the theories and ideas on this great site about what the storyline could involve just makes me think that there is lot to pack into this film. I am expecting a 150mins+ runtime (I'd have no problem with a 4 hour film to be honest but we all know that will never happen). Has there been a confirmation yet as to the film length? I feel that the runtime will be telling because if it's a circa 100 minute effort, I suspect the all action approach with little character development (save for Daniels, maybe Tennessee, Walter and David) for such a big cast may be disappointing.

@Ac1d4Bl00d   Yes, two and a half hours or more please! I want Kingdom of Heaven director's cut style!

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-03-2017 7:52 AM

Dark Nebula: Good point about the likeness of the statue of David! I wonder if there is a significance in it being mirrored?

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-03-2017 8:01 AM

Also, it now seems evident that the holocaust of the engineers happened after the arrival of David (and Shaw) in the juggernaut.

OvomorphMember49 XPMar-03-2017 8:09 AM

I genuinely think the trailers have merely scratched at the surface and are leading us on a merry path. For some reason I have a gut feeling that there is going to be a huge twist or twists that however much we have speculated, none of us have seen coming. My personal thought is that Daniels isn't going to be the main character protagonist/survivor. I think we have seen far too much of her already and there is no real mystery there. I could be wrong, who knows? However if Alien was being made today would we really have guessed that  Ripley would turn out to be the sole survivor ?

Dr. Curt Connors

ChestbursterMember661 XPMar-03-2017 8:09 AM

@chli   If that is the case then where have the engineers been all this time? 2,000 years and they never went back to LV-223 to see what happened? Nah we'll just leave that place a mess. We'll just leave that crashed ship on LV-426 as well. If that's how it is that's some pretty lazy writing.

OvomorphMember45 XPMar-03-2017 8:15 AM

Some observations.

a) I see no reason for this world not being Paradise, the Engineer´s homeworld.  What would be David´s intent in tricking Shaw in this way?  Maybe he was as curious to get there as Shaw.

b) I can´t believe that the Juggernaut would be able to approach the Engineer´s homeworld undetected, IF the engineers where still alive.

c) the Juggernaut seems more crashed than properly landed.  Why?

d) Some of the scenes that we see in the trailler could be flashbacks.  Maybe the scene where we see David approaching the Engineer´s city happened well before the main events in Alien:Covenant.

d) I still don´t have a solid theory about the story.  I´m still not very convinced about the role of David in developing the Xeno, since we know from Prometheus that the Engineers already had the Xeno´s blueprint (the sculpture in the wall).  Also there was the deacon... I´m really confused just now.

Alien DNA

OvomorphMember10 XPMar-03-2017 9:09 AM

Any ideas where David got hosts for the preserved neomorphs in his workshop from the leaked pics, I saw at least 5 different specimens in what looks to be different stages of it's life cycle. Wouldn't that mean he previously had at least 5 live hosts?

"Sometimes to create, one must first destroy"

Maybe he's not acting as a villain, rather just creating life, however unfortunate for the test subjects which makes him the antagonist to our protagonists.

OvomorphMember8 XPMar-03-2017 9:27 AM

d) Maybe David just try to copy (reproduce) what the Engineers created thousands of years ago.

@Dark Nebula

Nice catch.

FacehuggerMember143 XPMar-03-2017 9:49 AM

Am I the only one who thinks he might still be alive?,  there's something that moves next to the guy who is going to get attacked by the Morph...

OvomorphMember27 XPMar-03-2017 10:05 AM

I think the gay couple could be the main twist...

they will survive and turn out to be the most cunning duo ever witnessed in alien universe

ChestbursterMember926 XPMar-03-2017 11:03 AM

Cool, but I was kinda expecting a little more in this version. Oh well.

OvomorphMember12 XPMar-03-2017 11:25 AM

I have a feeling David's quest for "The perfect organism" will come to life in the third film. David's story could parrelel to an engineer who found the secret to create the xeno. Maybe by adding synthetic blood or DNA he begins to create classic xenos. Maybe the race that created the engineers were partly synthetic themselves and that's the race of engineers we see on lv-426. This race knew all the secrets and died with them and maybe the engineers we see now worshipped them and their creations. Just a thought.

OvomorphMember29 XPMar-03-2017 12:22 PM

How do we know this is an Engineer? Could it be a human?

OvomorphMember12 XPMar-03-2017 12:23 PM

I am quite looking forward to this film. I hope the plot is as simple as it can be. On a personal level I would like it if is was David that created the "final" bio/mech-ish Alien we see in the first film. It would add even more weight to Ash's "death" scene and enhance the reasons why Ash admired the creature so much.

OvomorphMember14 XPMar-03-2017 1:43 PM

Can't wait for this film going to be awesome. Just don't show us to much more in the trailers though lol.

Live reading all the theory here I wonder if David and Shaw arrive here and it's like a outpost rather than home world but they get shunned as David is to them like a abomination as there masters in biological engineering.

While exploring Shaw gets infected with the spores and David knowing she's infected gives her some black goo which mutates the parasite into a xeno which kills Shaw and ignores David while killing engineers.

As the engineers prepare to attack David's base and kill by now several xeno David attacks the engineers with a spore weapon wiping them out apart from a handful who die in batthe between the neomorphs and xenos.

By time covenant arrives all the bugs have since died from there life cycle and David needs new subjects to perfect is cation and make  him a god

OvomorphMember21 XPMar-03-2017 3:53 PM

In other words it's giving heavy credibility to the 4chan leak. If he's plastinized a engineer it does give credence to the idea he killed them all. Hence why they hear nothing when they land.

Dr. Curt Connors

ChestbursterMember661 XPMar-03-2017 4:00 PM

Please let that not be the case, there is no way the engineers would have let him take them out. They've hopefully been dead for thousands of years like the ones on LV-223. One android taking out an entire race, please no.

PraetorianMember2267 XPMar-03-2017 7:00 PM

This is Ridley Scott's 101 class on the poetry of Alien.

OvomorphMember41 XPMar-03-2017 7:35 PM

Amazing posts everyone. I am very excited to be able to see this movie in just 75 more days. I could care less about any of the reveals from the trailers.

The dissection of the Engineer, my goodness, what ever Ridley has waiting for us this time is bound to be nothing short of transcendental. The suspension of disbelieve just in these trailers is too real. That back busting Xeno alone has me seeing this film.

I want to say for the record though that David knew how to fly the Juggernaut ship before the last engineer was woke up by Peter Weyland.  A few months back I stated in a post that I would have preferred to see Peters’ character easily capture the engineer and take it back to Earth.

Has David achieved this victory over the engineers? I do not know for sure. I am speculating that David has found part of a battle that took place between two parts of just one the engineers’ home worlds. Just like us having real wars why not the engineers as well. Maybe David takes a fully loaded Juggernaut and kills them all just as well.

The engineers were not very friendly to us on LV223 so I would welcome a bit of payback by David. David is quite ruthless as we remember with Doctors Shaw and Holloway.

I am afraid Dr. Shaw was killed by David once they had reached this new Engineer world. Other than that the movie so far feels incredible. That line going up the mountain is absolutely black and menacing, “you hear that nothing no birds no animals nothing!”

“We are all going down on an express elevator to hell.” Bill Paxton, Aliens.

Bill you will be missed very much. Hoping you are in paradise after all brother resting in eternal peace.  I am sure John and Bill would have enjoyed the new movie.

FacehuggerMember163 XPMar-03-2017 8:57 PM

I think the tag line gives us a clue. "The path to Paradise begins in hell". This suggests to me that this is not the Engineers homeworld. as has been speculated by others, I'm thinking this could well be another 'experiment' planet that the Engineers have long since left (at least, the technological ones).

I'm intrigued as to why the mass of bodies are dead outside the huge temple as we see the trailer. It seems like they were fighting each other and then were 'nuked' Pompeii style. I'm really hoping that, as well as the inevitable experimentation by David (and possibly Shaw), that there is also further expansion on the Engineer story arc.

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-04-2017 6:34 AM

Dr Curt Connors: I always pictured the engineers dead since thousands of years (that the outbreak on LV-223 spread to their home world). We would then find ruins (and possibly eggs still waiting for a host).

But the scene with David walking among all the dead engineers in the ruined city seems to indicate that they can’t have died too long ago? On the lush planet with breathable air, they would have decomposed and vanished long ago.

Another thing: If the mutagen leaked out of the cargo hold and into the small stream (which probably leads down to the lake where the dropship is parked), what has evolved in the lake and what happens if there is a tide . . .

DeaconMember10416 XPMar-04-2017 7:16 AM

Its interesting for sure...

We cant really yet be 100% sure if those Engineers died a long time ago, or 10 years before the Covenant arrived or in-between... there are many questions to be asked of them if they was indeed all alive at the time David arrived.

Questions i think i may have answers for.. and proposed a few times over the last few months....   As these guys are not as Tooled Up and Equipped like the LV-223 Engineers but then again how did David crash his ship?  So indeed so many questions.

One way we can look at this is Biblical Punishment like Sodom and Gomorrah which is what i thought was going on since we first saw any of the Engineers and Temples from the released Set Photos last year..

Now we have a much grander scale of Temples and Engineers.

Sodom and Gomorrah was Wraith of God, Fire and Brimstone, and these Engineers looked Burnt or covered in Soot or Ash.. like Pompeii but there is not evidence of Volcanic Activity and also the bodies are better preserved...

We need to remember we are looking at events in a not too literal way and so loosely..... and if we look at Sodom and Gomorrah and remember Lots Wife.. she looked back and became a Pillar of Salt

What if we are seeing this?  But instead of a Pillar of Salt they are turned almost to Stone?

In the Tale of Lot,  he was sent to Sodom and Gomorrah to find 10 people worthy of God and if he could not the place would be destroyed.

Ridley Scott had said recently the Cathedral has 10 Stone Heads of beings above those on Paradise and these are 10 wise men and apostles and was superior...

What if this place had 10 beings regarded and favored by God, or they was linked to God, but they are no more and so Paradise has Sinned and no longer has any just beings as Lot found out with Sodom and Gomorrah

FacehuggerMember198 XPMar-04-2017 7:56 AM

What doesn't make sense to me is, if the covenant was redirected to this planet to answer a distress call or signal, wouldn't they detect the dead civilisation from orbit?

I mean that temple area we see looks huge and it surely isn't the only large structure or populated area on the planet.

Also, I'm not entirely convinced that dissected figure is an engineer.

The underlying tissue looks like human tissue (from what I know of human anatomy lol), whereas the engineers blood and such was dark blue or black and their skin pale white?

Ah there's so many unknowns in this franchise and I feel like it's going to be like the Lost TV series all over again, a million questions with no answers, even when it comes to an end.

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-04-2017 8:00 AM

What if it's Shaw plastinated (although it looks male the picture is cut off just above possible breasts)? She would then stand statue for ever as the foremother of the xenomorphs . . .

Shasta cyclone

FacehuggerMember281 XPMar-04-2017 8:33 AM

I brought this up in another thread but I think there will be another race of alien beings that will be revealed and play a big part in the story line.

As far as the juggernaut in alien, what if the ship and SJ are 1000's years old but it has not been there ( lv426 ) for 1000's of years and neither the eggs.

OvomorphMember80 XPMar-04-2017 4:02 PM

We're in store for another symbolic puzzle like Prometheus was. Much to decipher

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-05-2017 3:11 AM

Nice comparison with Sodom and Gomorrah BigDave. But isn’t religious and philosophical viewpoints what we “superimpose” on the scenes in a movie? All we have is what we see happening, the rest is interpretation?

In The Hobbit, the trolls are literally turned into stone when the sun goes up. Lot’s wife is turned into a pillar of salt. Both of these transformations are caused by magic. Sci-fi is, as I see it, more like trying to apply a realistic, scientific approach but you sort of extend it. How far has technology reached hundreds or thousands of years in the future, or by aliens in other parts of the universe?

Therefore it seems a bit odd if the burned engineer corpses would stand the test of time and not decompose and disintegrate but be turned into stone? Fossilisation requires certain chemical and physical cir***stances. Unless we just accept it being more figurative, as you propose?

OvomorphMember44 XPMar-05-2017 3:32 AM

Ridley seems to love it, and he may very well ruin the whole franchise if he brings god's divine into the equation.

However i dont think he will do so, but if you interprit some biblical presence in the storyline it think it proves that this is some other human race wich also worshiped the engineers.

OvomorphMember27 XPMar-05-2017 4:06 AM

Ridley has always mentioned that he does want to show us who is God. The movie could be interpreted through various types of mythology, but its always connected to the aspect of creator, meaning who is he and what kind of a creator it is actually? Is he really merciful and good? That is the whole point for these movies, to reeducate those who are still kept in the dark so to speak. Consider these movies as your enlightment, a lecture by R. Scott. You are free to consider that its another sci-fi saga, but this religious aspect was present from the first Alien movie. Remember when Ash said for the first chestburster "Son of Kain" :D its all so evident and present so that I am really surprised that people to this day still question the aspect and nature of these movies.

ChestbursterMember935 XPMar-05-2017 11:11 AM

Morpheus: Yes of course, the religious, mythical, philosophical, ethical questions are ever present in Scott's alien visions but I don't think he's preaching: Don't make contact with aliens! Don't make synthetics in the likeness of humans! Don't pluck from the trees of knowledge and life! I don't think he wants to be too obvious but rather leave it more ambiguous and open to interpretation?

FacehuggerMember141 XPMar-05-2017 11:51 AM

@Dark Nebula

Incredible thought and comparison with Michelangelo's work!

FacehuggerMember141 XPMar-05-2017 12:20 PM

Would it be possible that the so called "David's lab" was, actually, an "Engineer's lab"? A place in which they have experimented and worked on their creations?

DeaconMember10416 XPMar-05-2017 1:25 PM

I think the key is certain Mythos and Event happened, maybe not to Mankind on Earth but they happened... its just how these Biblical connections would connect.. they would do so in a non-literal way.

Like how you could see "God said let US great Man in OUR Image"  But then the Sacrificial Scene is the loos interpretation of what the Bible was on about.

OvomorphMember23 XPMar-06-2017 2:03 AM

Look behind the plastic man to the left on the wall could be the missing link between neo to proto?
