Not sure how much we Discussed this Ship/Mission in Depth, in LIGHT of looking at WHERE they could take the Franchise to Offer a New Movie or TV Series, when looking at Events in the Franchise we have that GAP between the Destruction of Hadleys Hope to then go after Ripley on Fiorina "Fury" 161 to the 100 or so Years that Passed before they Obtained a Specimen from Ripley DNA.

We are made aware that the USCSS Patna had already Departed before the Message to the Company about Ripley had been Sent...  The USCSS Patna having Received some Information from the Sulaco.

You would ASSUME that the USCSS Patna would go to LV-426 and send down a Probe to Check the Viability of the Derelict after the Destruction of Hadleys Hope.

You would also ASSUME that having Failed to Obtain Ripley and we know the Xenomorph is also NOT a Viable Source..... then surely the USCSS Patna Science/Military Team would know a LITTLE about the Xenomorph and would then go and SEARCH the Prison Complex as to the Location of the Face Hugger in a Attempt to see if they can STUDY and Obtain anything from that.

You would also have to ASSUME that they would also be looking to ANY place that may have any Connection to the Xenomorph or LV-426 for example any Place that may have the Potential for a Specimen.... IF such Avenues had NOT already been looked into prior to the Sulaco Mission to Hadleys Hope.

I certainly think that WHAT the USCSS Patna does NEXT could be a Avenue for a ALIEN Story...

PS i know that the USCSS Patna  was covered in the Stasis Interrupted Expansion for ALIEN Colonial Marines but i dont regard that as Canon and it in effect is a Retcon of Sorts as it has Hicks Survive.

So where is the Sulaco in all this? Did the fire cause her to burn up in the atmosphere?

I'd think enough fans would know what the Sulaco is/was..maybe make a series about her.

The Sulaco has a number of fates depending on whether you take the novelisation, Alien 3 - The Gun, the Colonial Marines Tech Manual, Aliens Infestation, Aliens Colonial Marines, or the first comic book series into account.

I generally go with the novelisation - it was damaged by the fire and an impact with an empty rogue EEV - but otherwise continued back to Gateway.

For the Patna, I go with it being a bust and they found nothing other than Ripley's blood samples.

Certainly SM

I think something to remember is that some EVENTS could have Happened that we had NOT seen on Screen.

Such as if Ripley was aware they FOUND a Face Hugger she would likely WANT to have it Destroyed so the Company cant get their Hands on it ;)   While this is NOT shown it could be used as a Explanation that there was NOTHING they could gain... not a DROP of DNA...  Until 100 Years Latter when the USM go and Captain a Specimen from Cloning Ripley.

I think Regarding the Sulaco if we only go by Movies, then we know there was a FIRE, would it have Caused the Destruction of the SHIP?  Who knows...

It Certainly would have Caused Damage to Part of the Ship, and so they could have it that the Area where the Eggs where had Suffered so much Fire Damage that their is NOTHING to be Obtained!

I think that after the EVENTS of Alien 3 at some point be it Days, Weeks, Months or Years... surely they would SEND out something to Survey LV-426 and see if anything can be Salvaged.

Just because 100 Years latter they Resorted to using the DNA of Ripley to obtain a Specimen...  This does not mean that something could have been HAD from LV-426 or some place else...

But IF they do Obtain something between 2180-2220 for Instance then in the AFTERMATH then what ever they had Obtained would surely be DESTROYED with NO Trace for them to Obtain anything else.

Thanks S.M

Salvaging the Sulaco from the bottom of the ocean on Fury 161 might make a cool episode.

Bennet "Are we sure there is nothing on the Sulaco?"

Taylor "It's never been fully vetted sir"

Bennet "Send an ops team..."

When they go down to check on the Sulaco they find large stone Engineer heads. Fury 161 is a prison planet, the oceans are just used for fishing..never been mapped.

I assume that the W-Y Corporation meticulously searched Fiorina 161 in every nook and cranny for possible biological residues and facts about what happened? Wouldn’t they have found the remains of Bishop? I also assume that this is when they find Ripley’s blood sample in the med lab? This would make it 200 years until they decided to clone Ripley - by another organisation: USM (not W-Y).

What happened during these 200 years and what happened to W-Y?

As for USCSS Patna, it would seem that it was on its way to the Sulaco when, after receiving information about the pregnant Ripley, they headed for Fiorina 161 instead?

After finding the blood sample of Ripley, couldn't they have cloned Ripley immediately? I assume that the technology was available at the time? Why wait 200 years and why give (sell?) Ripley's DNA to another organisation?

They didn't give. WY was bought by Wallmart and then became part of USM. In fact, this is one organization (or something like that). The only difference is that WY does not dominate now but obeys.

Why 200 years? Do not rack your brains over what the writers did not think about. It just sounds cool and big.

In any case - why did they find strange blood samples, but not a facehugger?

Firstly SILLY me when i said a few Times 100 Years when its Clearly 200 ;)

I think that INDEED its likely the Patna went to Intercept the Sulaco, i would NOT think that a Fire would Destroy the Entire ship but i would say for the sakes of Continuity i dont think there would be ANYTHING to Recover from the Sulaco.

Regarding Fury 161 then on that World there would have LIKELY been TWO Face Hugers we have to assume that Ripley was Infected in EEV.

And so INDEED somehow the Ripley DNA Sample was Obtained at some Point... likely NOT that Long after the events of ALIEN 3 (not like USM gonna go to Fury 161 some 200 Years latter for it).

You would expect the Crew of the USCSS Patna would have done a Thorough Search of Fury 161 and you would Expect they would Discover at least ONE of the Face Huggers unless UNSEEN on Screen we have Ripley go ORDER the Destruction of them!

So in Context of the Franchise and Avenues for Continued Story/Plot after ALIEN 3 then we CANT 100% go Rule Out that Weyland-Yutani had NOT managed to Obtain a Face Hugger from Fury 161 to Conduct Experiments.

We have NO PROOF this had Occurred but that does-not mean it cant be Explored ;)

The USM couldn't successfully clone Ripley 200 years post-Alien 3.  It's safe to assume the Company explored such an idea beforehand and similarly failed.

Dolly, the sheep, was cloned from a cell taken from a grown-up sheep’s udder in 2003. So this technology was definitely available and most likely improved in 2179. So we have to come up with an explanation as to why they didn’t think of this until 200 years later.

The Patna (W-Y/Bishop) might not have needed to go back to LV-426 in search of the perfect organism. They might have found at least one facehugger on Fiorina 161 and Ripley’s blood sample. But why didn’t they do anything with these findings?

S.M

Dec-07-2020 5:36 PM

They didn't have to separate Alien DNA from Dolly the sheep.

S.M.

They didn't separate alien DNA from the cloned Ripley either. The Queen, the drones and Ripley 8 were a blend of alien and human DNA.

The canon nowadays seems to be that the alien embryo takes on traits from the host. The alien aboard the Nostromo would therefore have a resemblance of Kane, just as the xenomorphs on the Auriga had traits (and memories) from Ripley (and she from the Queen).

S.M

The canon that an Alien takes traits from the host has been a thing since the first film.

And the USM not successfully separating DNA with Ripley was precisely my point.

I think that from the beginning you saw the alien more like a parasite that grew in the body of its host and where it absorbed nutrition from its host (not DNA). I think with Alien 3 we got the notion that it took on traits from its host, the xenomorph running on all fours e.g. That is, it absorbed DNA from its host.

I'd like to see a Dr. Frankenstein and Igor land on LV-223 and do some xenoarchaeology.

Two figures enter an alien tomb...

Maybe characters like this were aboard the Patna. Just waiting to dissect Ripley..or anything else. Like David's lab on Planet 4...Except we get to see the odd hatched monster attack villagers ( colonists) Prison population work also work...if they could only find a prison planet!

You would think they could have found alien DNA on fury 161?...The xeno/Runner ran around and touched many surfaces. Must have left some traces?

So maybe Patna did find something...it just wasn't controlled very well....( they grew something big and nasty and it ate them ) It'd make a cool novel or short story or an episode for the tv series.

Ridley spoke about the Alien taking on traits of the host in interviews while they were making the first film.

Alien3 just made it really obvious.

I think it's reasonable to assume that W-Y would have searched Fiorina 161 thoroughly. They would therefore have found the damaged synthetic Bishop, at least one facehugger, the shed skin of the baby xenomorph and the blood sample of Ripley. The blood sample would contain a blend of human and xenomorph DNA.

I suppose it's possible that Bishop and his team made experiments with what they found and it ended in disaster?

I had been given the USCSS Patna and Alien 3 some thought, and YES we are aware that the USCSS Patna had NOT been Deployed in Response to the Message from Fury 161 but was already on Route to the Sulaco when they Discover from the Message that Fury 161 has a Queen Specimen.

This became a BUST the Xenomorph and Ripley/Queen became TOAST..... i would assume that anything on the Sulaco had also MET a Fiery End!

I would assume that if RIPLEY was aware of any Face Huggers then she would Demand/Persuade those in Charge on Fury 161 to DESTROY them and so they LIKELY had a Fiery End too.

Regarding what the USCSS Patna would do NEXT...  i think they either had enough Information from the Sulaco to determine that LV-426 is BUST, or they sent a Probe and Determined their was NOTHING to gain.. Either because its Totally Destroyed... but also the Radioactive Fall Out!

However.... i suspect 10, 25, 50 or 100 Years latter maybe someone would CHECK out LV-426... (This seemed to be the Blomkamp Alien V Plot from what i assume was the Derelict).... but even if someone goes to Investigate LV-426 in Future post 2180... that does-not mean they can OBTAIN a anything from there!

Regarding the DNA PLOT... its Flawed for sure.

At some-point someone does Discovery that the DNA of Ripley contains Foreign/Alien DNA and so then YES they would TRY and Extract the ALIEN DNA... they would NOT really NEED or TRY to get Ripleys!

You could expect they had some Failure and Mutations with Mix of Xenomorph and Human DNA (we see that with the Failed Clones) you would ASSUME that with Further Experiments they would try and gain a HIGHER % of Xenomorph DNA!

It HOWEVER is completely IMPLAUSIBLE that they would Create a Almost Perfect Clone of Ripley that is Gestating a Queen!

If you CLONED a Sheep that was Pregnant, then would this Clone be Carrying any Embryos/Lambs?

However we have to REMEMBER they wanted another ALIEN Movie and they wanted NOT only the Xenomorph back but to have Miss Weaver Cast... but RIPLEY is DEAD!

And so the Flawed Clone Plot is PURELY something we Overlook its Flaw, because this is just a PLOT CONVENIENT to allow for Miss Weaver to play a Ripley of Sorts and to also give us a Xenomorph of Sorts too.

If the more Plausible Route was taken that they managed to Extract a Pure Xenomorph DNA and Recreate the Beast... there would be NO REASON i Guess to Clone Ripley!

Which means no MISS WEAVER!

And so the Cloned Ripley 8 and her Removed Queen are Necessary for the PLOT to introduce us to Resurrecting our Ripley and Xenomorph.
